Does anyone know if there's been a Y DNA donor for familytreedna.com from Pascal & Rachel Holt's group of male descenants?

I descend from two unrelated Holt lines, 1-Randolph Holt and 2-Robert & Richard Holt--->Drury Holt. My Drury line lived in the same TN and KY counties at the same time Pascal's family members lived there.

My mother was the descendant of Drury Holt. Her aunt married Noah Holt (in Douglas Co, MO), descendant of Pascal. They are deceased now but always wanted to know if Pascal and Drury were kin.

Drury did have a Y DNA match with a Holt group in early Grainger Co, TN.

Wow! Matt this is big news! I have confirmation that Seth R was born in New York state and all indications are that he was born in Silver Creek. Elijah had another son Elijah that moved to Erie Penn. Elijah the son married Laura Conant and brother Seth married Chestina Conent. Sisters.

Elijah II also had a son named Elijah who accompanied Seth R to Michigan. And of course Seth R settled in Walkerville Michigan. I have visited his grave and the platt where his home was located.

It is easy to get all these Elijah's mixed up. If you read the MOON book that Patty Mallory has posted on this site I beleive that this book talks about Elijah II.

Samuel Holt and Mary Binford - to my knowledge neither a Virignia nor a North Carolina marriage record has been found.

Samuel Holt died in Northampton NC bef. June Court 1821 -
WILL & ESTATE RECORDS: Recorded in Northampton Co., NC June Court of 1821 on p. 251. Lois Grigsby Irby, [a descendent of the Henry Holt Grigsby line] transcribed the will of Samuel Holt that follows:
In the Name of God amen Samuel Holt senr of Northampton Co. and state of NC Being week in body but of sound mind and memore do make and ordain this my Last will and testament in maner and form as follows: Item, I give and bequeth to my son John Holt a sirtain track or parcel of land lying and being in the Co. of northampton and state of North carolina and Bounded as follows begining at a black gum in the spring Brach thence a long a line of marked tres on Peter Reames line to Corde Reads line thence along said Reads line to a corner Black gum in Henry Moreses line thence along said Moreses line to a Cornner whitoke in said line thence a long a line of marked trese to a Corner pine in the spring Branch thence down the spring Branch as it manders to the first station to him and his heires and assigns for ever. Item. Item my will and desier is that all my Estate Except my Land that I haave Lent to my wife at her deth may be Equalley divided betwene William Holt, Henrey Holt, Nancey Edwards & Sarah Holt to them & thire hires and assigns for Ever and Lastley I Constitute and appoint my frend Joshua Binford my hole and sole Executor to this my last will and testament Revoking all other wills by me hearetofore made in witness wheareof I have heareunto set my hand and seal this Twentey seventh day of Nov. one thousand Eight hundred and fifteine. Signed and sealed and acknolege in presents of Benajah Binford and Lydia Binfor. Signed by mark of Samuel Holt.
Recorded in the June Court of 1821 on p. 251.

Before Samuel Holt died, most of his children had already made their way to Mississippi Territory in area that is now known as Limestone Co., AL. Joel Holt is the mystery son. I've never been able to specifically identify him in any records anywhere. You see, in the adjacent county of Giles Co., TN there was a Joel Holt son of another Holt family that is generally not believed to be related to the "Limestone Co., AL Holt's" . I did find one early 1820's newspaper account where a Joel Holt was in trouble with the law. Don't recall now what specific charge was but seem to think it was for counterfeiting money. It has been a long time since I looked at early Limestone Co., AL (LCA) Holt records. Where did your Joel live and what was dates of birth/death. I have fairly comprehensive record of Holt's in LCA, including some unrelated in so-far-as I Know Holt families that moved in LCA in mid to late 1800's.

I descend from Burrell Holt thorugh his son Jesse Holt who married Mary Ann Rebecca Vernon (born a Quaker).

Sam's dau Nancy Edwards and her husband did not move to Limestone Co., AL

Ruth
For addl information on LCA Holt's descended from Samuel Holt please email me privately at delins1@verizon.net. Except for Joel Holt and Nancy Holt Edwards lines, I've been able to successfully track most of Samuel Holt descendants. However, there is some confusion in one or two lines, including Burrell's. In a few cases those of researching the LCA Holt's have not been able to successfull prove/disprove father's name of a handful of Holt's. In addition to other records, on 20th century families I have many obituries.

Ruth
(forgive my response in that regard - I'm dabbling with the genetic stuff right now and have a long way to go toward expertise).

I will look further into the Lunenburg family to see what I can find.

Hi I'm the another gentleman Matt I saw your post today and from what I can tell is that our Elijah Holt lived in Jamaica, Vermont around 1800-1810 and about 1815 he went to Sliver Creek, New York area then in 1832 went to Elk Creek,Pennsylvania then sometime I don't know when they went to Ohio then Elijah's son Seth Ransom came to Michigan in 1868 and My theory is that our Elijah is the son of the Elijah born 1759 in Lunenburg, MA but have not been able to find proof it.

Vermont is tricky because you really need a locality to make any traction. Do you know where in VT, even a county Elijah was born in or a time frame? I have two Elijah's, one born in Wilton, NH in 1768 and the other in Lunenburg MA in 1759. The Wilton guy could have removed to VT - there were quite a few Holts in Wilton who moved to VT in this time frame. If the timing seems right, I'm happy to go deeper to see what I can figure out. Your Elijah could be the Wilton one, moved to VT - son Seth Ransom born in either Wilton or possibly Vt then moved on to MI. That seems to make sense with other family movement in terms of timing. A lot of these folks from VT did a stint in upstate NY and then moved on to MI, IL, WI, IA.

Boy! I am sorry that I missed this and didn't answer sooner.

The other gentleman Matt has had a DNA test done that appears to connect him to Nicolas Holt. Since I am decended from another line but we both share the same GG Grandfather is is easy to make the assumption that I am also a decendant of Nicolas. The information that I have about Nicolas was from a Holt association book and at the point was only a reference that is unverified. We have not been able to get any documentatio that puts us to that level. We are currently trying very hard to make a connection from Elijah Holt to his parents. Elijah Holt is our GGG Grandfather. His son Seth R Holt from Michigan is well documented but Elijah appears to be "lost in time" Matt has a plausible theory that we have not been able to test it yet.

Thanks,
Seth Holt

Hi Guys,

I am a direct descendant of Nicholas Holt and have personally visited Aston Hall. Nicholas has no connection to Aston Hall -that's an old myth perpetuated by Victorian ancestors infatuated with "titles." Also, I have seen several DNA results for those with proven descent to Nicholas whose dna group is R1B1B2. This dna connects him with other Holts in Lancashire, in particular those at Griselhust and Ashworth which do have a connection to Aston - but not in a direct line with Nicholas (whose father may be Thomas of Ashworth). I'm not sure what evidence you have seen that would indicate that R1B1a1 would make you a match to Nicholas, but I would be very curious and interested to be directed to it.

I have researched Holts in Vermont as my personal lines have that connection. If you have more info I may be able to help you.

Ruth, I don't have the exist dates of both of Randall Parents, But I believe Randall ws born before 1607. His father was a Randulphe Holte and his mother was a Elizabeth Potte. Elizabeth Potte brother John Potte joined a group under the auspices of the London based Virginia Company . Talked both parents into letting Randal come to the new world at the age of 13.Randal was a indentured servant , a common practice in those days to his uncle. Pat. You see that the last name of Holt has been changed. My father name has three spelling the spelling now Cothrun, Cochrun, Cockerham, and I believe their is another spelling too Pat

I too descend from this Randal. I have lived in Virginia for several years. I worked on one of the committees associated with Jamestown 2007. I've combed the available records at the Library of Virginia, Surry County and all its neighboring counties as well as the City of Alexandria library and the Virginia Room at the Fairfax Co.library, the DAR library, and Lib. of Congress. I've also been to courthouses and libraries in Southampton, Virginia and Northampton, NC where my 5th g-grandfather Samuel Holt died ca 1821. Admittedly, I've not been to England, but from the on-line records I've managed to plow through, I've never seen positive proof about where in England Randal Holt was born or the names of his parents. Do you have copies of documents proving his place of birth and his parents' names? If so, are you willing to share copies of these records or cite the documents so that fellow researchers might find them? Ruth

Does anyone know if any of Pascal & Rachel's male descendants, who've come down an unbroken line of Holt men and still carry the Holt name, have been Y DNA donors for familytreedna.com? That would at least tell us which Holts Pascal was related to.

Do you know if any of this Pascal Holt's male descendants have done Y DNA tests? If so, it would be helpful to know the kit # to view the markers. I descend from two separate groups of Holts, the Randolph Holt line and the Drury Holt line. My Drury line lived in Grainger Co, TN, Whitley Co, KY. Pascal's group were also in those locations.

Re: William Holt

We (Ber Holt and I) are trying to list as many Holt ancestors as possible on our Ancestor List. We already have several hundred Holt individuals on our dedicated Holt list (including many William Holt's born between 1830 and 1840), all of which can be found on the www.joseph-holt.org website. The names all have at least one event detailed about the individual. In many cases whole histories about the individal are listed with details of their other family members.

To access the free website Ancestor list you have to click on the General Holt's Chat tab (from the list on the left side of the home page) and then sign in with your e-mail address. Once a member, you can reach the list by scrolling down to the bottom of the page to Ancestor List. There is also a useful Search Box where you can enter any term or name and if it has been entered by any of our chatters it will be found.

If you would like us to enter any of your ancestors for viewing by our chatters you can enter the details on the General Holt chat tab. With your permission we could then add your individuals to the Ancestor list. So if you want them added please say so in your chat.

Regards Carole

I've looked on the IGI and there's a William Holt who was baptised on the 17th September 1781, parents George and Elizabeth. This looks to be the first Holt entry in the Totternhoe registers which might suggest that William was actually born elsewhere. There's also an entry for a William Holt marrying Elizabeth Ashby in November 1780.

I've come across instances in my own family where someone has been baptised as an adult - do you think this could be the case here?

Thank you so much for this information! I appreciate it.
I have a couple of questions you might be able to answer:
In the 1850 census, the Holt children are living with a Joseph Salkeld family, instead of their parents. Do you know why? And do you know if/how the Salkelds were connected to the Holts?
Do you recall where you read about Nathan as being/going blind? And when it happened? I'd like to include that in my tree
I also look up info on the LDS site. I really like the fact that it's free. And they have so many records available. It's great! :) You may already know this, but the Andover historical sites have photos of some of the early Holt homes in Andover that are still standing.
thanks again
Karen

I don't think there is a connection. I have three Mary Tysons in my tree, one is way too old; one never married; and the third was married to a John George.

Thomas Graham Holt

Trying to locate information on the parents of Thomas Graham Holt. Thomas had a brother Charles, sister Maria, Celia and catherine that info was found in old military records. Thomas married Artimisa Gholson . they died and were raised by relatives of artimisa. thomas was born in Kentucky and I believe was orphaned at a young age. children had to care for each other. He died whilein service in missouri. I think artimisa died shortly after having my grgrandfather William Harrison Holt. Any help would be so appreciated.

I am also a descendant of Nathan and Abagail Holt. George Hill Holt was sent to live with Joseph Holt in Wilton,NH. I think I saw somewhere that Nathan was blind. George died at the age of 34 and my Grandfather Albert Joseph Holt did not remember him.
If you go on the Church of Ladderday Saints you will see that we go back to the first Holt (Nicholas Paul Holt )of Andover, MA.
Judi Holt Burke
