My grandfather was John Holzer. His parents were Michael and Filomena Holzer. They spent a short time in North Dakota before emigrating to Saskatchewan, Canada. They came over in 1905. We too have a Lawrence Welk connection. Family history says we were related to Lawrence Welk. Still trying to figure out the connection. I realize your post is twelve years old. I hope you get this message! God Bless.

Re: Nicholas Holzer 1855 Indiana

Hi! My name is Becky (Holzer) Smith - and I have been trying to find out more about this branch of Holzers for long time. I am descended from Frederick Holzer (1824-1886), who immigrated from Baden in 1847 to Indiana - Jefferson County (where Madison, IN is). In 1851, a Nicholas and a Peter Holzer immigrated to the same area, and these three show up in court together going through naturalization. I don't know how they are related, but I suspect they are members of the same family. I have been able to track a lot of the descendants of Frederick and Peter Holzer, but I have very little information on Nicholas Holzer's family. I do have a (unverified) list of Nicholas' children, and your Nicholas Holzer (Joseph N.'s father) appears to be one of them.

Nicholas Holzer (1822? - 1890 in Ripley Co, IN)
married Louisa Lorch (1832, Prussia - 1895)

Their children:
1)Anna, b.1852 Ripley Co. IN, died before 1860
2)Jacob Frederic, b.1854 d.1922 m.Maria Katherine Kremer
3)Nicholas W., b.1855 Ripley Co, IN - d.1898 Ripley Co, IN
m. Eliabeth Brockhaus
4)John H., b.1858/9 d.1893
5)Catherine b. 1861 m. Charles Payne
6)Peter b.1863, d.1938 in Chicago m. Martha ?
7)Margaret b.1865
8)Frederick J. b.1868 m. Ellen/Nellie Leary
9)Frank b.1870 died before 1880
10)Mary Magdalena b.1871
11)Ella b.1881

If you have more information on this family, I would LOVE to hear from you.
You can email me directly at smithra@comcast.net

Anyone out there have a Phoebe/Fabey Holzer who married Brice Cavey (1798-1870s) probably in the 1820s? Brice Cavey was born in Maryland and Phoebe was born in Pennsylvania. They are listed in the 1850 census in Maryland and moved their family to Ohio by 1860. They are listed in the 1860 and 1870 censuses for Ohio, but are gone (deceased?) by 1880.

Thanks for any clues!

Nicholas Holzer 1855 Indiana

My Grandmother was Edythe Jennett (Holzer), and her father was Joseph N. Holzer. Joseph was born Dec. 8, 1891 in Lincoln, Nebraska and died July 1, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN. Joseph's father was Nicholas Holzer, who was born abt. 1855. I have a letter from one of Nicholas' grandchildren stating that he was born on a farm in Indiana, near Madison, and he was one of a big family. Nicholas moved to Nebraska and then to Washington D.C.. He visited the farm in Indiana and died there on Sep. 1st, 1898. I am trying to determine the name of Nicholas' parents and his brothers and sisters. J

My name is David Holder because my father changed it but my grandfather was Moritz Holzer born 13/12/1893 in Peskow (now Byelorussia I think) but who then moved to Vienna where my father Curtis Holzer was born. He married his first or second cousin Hani Huppert. Moritz was the youngest of 13 but we are only in touch with one of these siblings - I have no information about the others. If you have any information, I would be very grateful.

David Holder

Adele Holzer, Lina Ratzek and Anthony Suchanek

I'm looking for more information on Adele Holzer. She's is also listed as Adele Ratzek in some places I've seen. She arrived to New York from Bremen, Germany on September 12, 1868. She was initially indexed as Adele Holger, but this is a typo. She arrived with a Lina Ratzek, who I presume was her sister. The index lists them arriving from "Wrin", which is very likely a typo also. It's more likely "Wien", which is Vienna, Austria.

She married Anthony Suchanek/Suchaneck shortly after her arrival and can be seen on later census sheets as Adele Suchaneck, in Minnesota, then California.

I'm searching for further information about her.

For any distant relatives or fellow researchers, you can see further information about her on my genealogy website.

http://www.matthollingsworth.net/genealogy/

Thanks for any and all help.

-Matt Hollingsworth

Christian HOLZER was born 01/26/1895 in Bern Switzerland.

I have found him as a butler in New York on the WWI draft registration rolls in 1917, on the 1930 census with my aunt, and with a NY address but employed by MacDonald Logging Co, in Ketchikan, AK in the WWII rolls in 1942. Have not found him on 1920 census.

Per SSDI, he died in Seattle, WA in 1972.

Would be interested in any Holzer family who might know of Christian.

AnneMarie
My gg - Maria Anna (Mary) Berenka (sp?) married a Joseph Holzer from Strassburg Russia. I don't know if they married in Russia or in North Dakota. Emigrated to N. D. c. 1907. I believe Joseph's father was also Joseph and he had a brother Anton and also perhaps Johanne. I have a picture of my gg and Joseph taken at a studio in Linton, N.D. Joseph died at Bismarck, N.D. in the fall of 1919 and is buried at the old St. Mary's Cemetery in Hague. Re: Holzer history - I have seen reference to a publication called "It Started with Joseph" by Deicher. Does anyone know of it?

Holzer, Theresia Shakopee MN

My 3rd Great Grandmother was Theresia Holzer 1822-1912. She was born in Germany. She married Clemens MAYER (MEYER, MYER) Sept. 1847 in Canada. They ended up in Shakopee Scott Co MN. She & Clemens are buried at St. John the Baptist Calvary Cemetery and, according to a cemetery transcription, so are Albertine HOLZER 1828-1908 and Constantin HOLZER 1828-1900. I don't know who these 2 indviduals are, but would like any information. Also, searching for Theresia's parents names. Her death cert. identifies her as Theresia Wamberger MYER.

HOLZER

Interested if anyone has a Chris Holzer in their line.

My great aunt Marie DUNNE married a Chris Holzer and they lived in New York City. I believe he went to Alaska to mine gold. I remember, in the 1950's, playing with gold nuggets in their home in the city.

Have been unable to find either of them on any census records and I know she was still alive until 1977..

My grandfather; Fred Holzer was a conductor on the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific Rairoad as it was being built across South Dakota in the late 1800s.
You can imagine how excruciatingly painful it is to realize that there are priceless pictures of your family being held by someone no longer at the e-mail address they posted. I have tried reverse searches etc. to no avail. Please Elizabeth check this board and contact me, even if you no longer have the pictures you offerred.
