Hi. I'm looking for way back information on the Homer family. I wanted to see where the name originated in direct relation to my boys Michael and Garrett Homer. (their dad is Brandon Homer, son of Langdon Homer and Norma Arnold - Perry is Langdon's dad). I found the Homer Family Tree (thanks SLHomer) and it ends (or begins with)

John Homer
Birth abt 1806 in Aston, , Birmingham, England
Death 1866 in Aston, Warwickshire, , England

Does anyone have information that goes further back (for the Homer name)

Thanks,
Michelle

I am the original one who posted this information and did not realize that it was with my old e-mail address that I had posted it with. Since the original post, I have since found lots and lots of information, although, I still lack on the BEAL family and the KINSEY family. If anyone has anything to add, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, anything on William Homer Jr. who ended up in Franklin, Ohio. I can't seem to get any further with that family. Had a daughter named Lily.

Hello,

I'd just like to add to this thread that my ancestor was (Capt.) Jacob HOMER, b~1760 in MA. There is a possible father for him, Michael HOMER. But, I don't remember seeing any definite information on the family Jacob came from.

Also, there might have been a different Jacob HOMER born around the same time. And, there was an Eleazer HOMER born around the same time. And, no one seems to know how Jacob and Eleazer were related.

My Jacob married in MA to Elizabeth LORING, but he died at sea in 1786 around the same time as the birth of their only child. His widow remarried twice afterwards.

(If you search this Board for "Jacob, MA," you will find my older postings. But, I might have said things from memory which were not exactly correct.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists,
including CAN-USA-Migration and the 2 Boards
which go along with it)

FYI: Please see my old posting here, also:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Hutchinso...

Capt. Jacob HOMER (~1760 MA, ~1787 at sea)

Hello,

I haven't thought about my ancestor, Jacob HOMER (~1760-~1787), in a few years. But, someone has mentioned him this morning. I don't remember whether I've found out who his parents were, but I think I had possible parents for him. And, I don't remember whether I found out whether he had a brother, Eleazer HOMER, of about the same age.

I'd also like to ask if there is a "HOMER book." I did see this morning that there is one, and it has a hand-written, family-tree chart in it. It's hard to read on-line, but I see some names which look familiar. This is the mention of it:

Title: Homer family

Authors: Homer, Sidney.

City of Publication: New York :

Publisher: Unknown,

Date: 1945

Page Count: 18

Notes: Date of publication taken from text.
Reproduction of original in the American Antiquarian Society.
geneal. table.

Reel/Fiche Number: (Genealogy and local history ; G14353).

Subject Headings: Homer, Joseph Warren, 1775-1863.

Primary Family Name: Homer family.

...
Some of my old postings are in the archives of the HOMER Board at www.genforum.com

Shortly before Jacob died at sea, he had married Elizabeth LORING, and they had a daughter just about the time he died. Elizabeth remarried and and more children and divorced that husband. Then she married a WELLINGTON of Belmont, MA. Information is in the archives of the HOMER Boards, and probably in the archivers of the MA Lists.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Hello,

I wish I could say that Lillian was somehow related to my ancestors. But, my last, male HOMER ancestor died ~1786 at sea. Capt. Jacob HOMER, b~1760 MA, left a brand-new wife and a newborn daughter. I only have a guess on his parents and siblings, but I haven't looked at his story in a long time. It is discussed here:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Hutchinso...

The Frank HOMER in later 1800's could be descended from the HOMER families in late 1700's Boston and Cambridge, MA.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

In 1910 census, Lillian E. Homer, born 1871 MA, lived Cambridge (Middlesex Co.) MA, wife of Frank A.
all my homer family come from warwickshire - mainly round the north of Birmingham - the Aston area-
I have traced them back to the 1841 census - to a William (b.1796 Birmingham) & Ann Homer (b. 1889 Bloxwich, Staffs.).
Beyond that I can't really go - although possibly her name was Ann Harrison.

Short of going to look at the parish records I am not sure how to go past 1841. The Latter Day Saints family search site gave me some names for the possible parents of William but I have nothing to cross-check them with

Where is the marriage of John Slaughter held ?

I am looking for information on Mary Homer she was the wife of John Slaughter. They had a daughter Catherine Slaughter who married Thomas Bass White . I think Thomas Bass was born in Suffolk England? Catherine was born in Shadwell? I cannot read my own writing. I may have the spelling wrong on the name of the places. Thomas Bass White was the father of William Bass white and Polly Ann Creamer white. The later being my grandfather's parents. His name was Willis Ernest White.

William Homer/ Drake family, Dorset.

Hi all, I have a recurring middle name of Homer in my Drake ancestors from Dorset which I can't as yet account for.

The earliest mention is the eldest son of Joshua Drake and Ann Stoakes (William Homer Drake) born 1829 in Pulham, Dorset. His father Joshua Drake, born 1792 in Pulham has only a mother's name on the baptism record and that's Mary (no surname but he is Joshua Drake)

In the same village are William Homer, born 1751 and his second wife Sarah Drake, born 1770(very approx based on 1841 census age of 75) I cannot find any children for William and Sarah (or with his first wife Penelope Trim)
What I'm wondering is if Joshua was William and Sarah's nephew and had maybe been supported by him if his mother Mary was unmarried. A lot of speculation I know and probably totaaly wrong, I'm hoping someone knows something about the links between these two families or maybe has other information about them.

There is a Hugh Drake about the same time and village who keeps appearing and confusing matters with what looks like three wives as well!
Hilary

Hello, I am the grandson of Martha (Homer) Kahn.

Martha is the eldest daughter of Mary Ann Homer and the step daughter of Thomas Homer. Thomas is the son of James Homer. James had several children and the boys are Thomas, William and Joeseph. I have the same picture of the men that is posted on the South Dakota geanology website. That particular picture along with a picture of Mary Ann Homer was orginially supplied by Linda Wulff.

Mary Ann Homer's parents were Ann (Anna) and william Homer who were all born in England. Ann and William are my great great grandparents

-Chuck

I believe that this is connected with my lineage. Maude Rhodes (connected with Rhodes scholorship family) Homer, married Issac Ashley or Astley Fellows and resided in Dudley, England. They owned multiple properties including a brewery in that community. They resided on High Street.
Her daughter Clara Maude Fellows married Robert Campbell in Montreal, after she emmigrated to Canada. Isaac Astley FELLOWS and Matilda Homer FELLOWS. Issac was maried to Matilda on Feb 1863 and was born July 6, 1843. Any information would be helpful. Their daughter Clara Maude Fellows married my gr. grandfather Robert Francis Campbell in Canada,

hi my forefathers came from the Aston/ Birmingham / Stafford area.
But I haven't found anyone as 'posh' as a lady in waiting.
You asked what they were - paid companions to the rich!
Our present Queen has a few of these ladies - usually old family friends - all 'well-born' they accompany the queen on her various 'engagements' - they are often handed the various bouquets and presents that have been given to the queen. If you watch the news you will soon spot these middle aged 'ladies' following the queen !

Years ago it would have been a very nice life even if she was only a lady in waiting to a rich 'lady' !

Andrew Homer has been mis-transcribed as Andrew Horner. He was living at 13 High Street Dudley at the time of the 1871 census with six of his children.

George Henry Homer

In the England Census of 1861 George Henry - aged 4 and John - aged 3 are shown as the GRANDsons of Andrew and Sylvia Homer.

On www.familysearch there is a record of George's birth in June 1855 and his christening in 1866 as the SON of Andrew and Sylvia. Ditto John re christening

The 1881 census shows George - now married to Sarah Ann (Hadin) again born in 1857. A correspondent has his marriage certificate which shows his father as Andrew.

But is this Andrew 1807 or his son Andrew 1842. Stranger things have happened than a child born to a 13 year old!!!!! Or a 15 year old depending on which date you believe.

I can find a birth record for June 1855 of Male Homer in Dudley.

But I cannot find any of the Homer family in the 1871 census (Sylvia was dead by then) - can anyone find any of them?

I don't have any connection to this family. This appeared in the May 4, 1848 issue of the Lime Rock Gazette (Rockland, Maine):

"Peter T. Homer, Esq., of Boston, went out in the steamer Washington, as bearer of despatches to Paris, and carries the joint resolutions of Congress sympathizing with the people of France."

Hi Perry,

You have reminded me of one of my ancestors, Capt. Jacob HOMER. Not very much is known about him. I went to my old postings and was reminded he was from the mid-1700's:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?Hutchinso...

Jacob only lived long enough to marry and father a daughter. He did not live long enough to raise her; he died at sea.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(HUTCHINSON, CROSBY, KIDDER, etc., are the surnames I've researched for almost 20 years (8 yrs. with Internet).)
