My Horrell Family were vituallers in Plymouth,Devon area. William John Horrell came to America after his father's death. He is the only male in his family so the Horrells left in England would be cousins. My g-great grandfather had five brothers and one sister in his family. Wm. John Horrell (1838-78) married in 1877 and died from Yellow Fever the following year when my grandfather was only a few months old.

Hi. Do you know your father's date of birth. Or his father's name? The first step for you might be to try to find one of them on the 1901 or 1911 census information.

I live in Wales (and my family have been here for a few generations) but prior to that our Horrells were in North Devon.

Hi Jamie. I have a lot of information on the Horrells in Devon. Our family has a Facebook group "Horrells/Horrills of Buckland Filleigh" with members in UK, New Zealand. Buckland Filleigh is the village in mid-Devon where our family were in the 18th century. You would be welcome to join and share the information we have.

Would be really good to tie the two family branches together if we can.

Regards, Justin Horrell

Hey Anna,
I did a little research for you. This is part of your family line.
There's your mother, Betty Horrell McCarthy.
Her father is James Horrell
James' father is William Sherman Horrell who was born on August 11, 1879 and died Sept. 20, 1958. He was married to Nora Reaves Horrell.
William Sherman's father was Jackson Horrell and his mother was Jane Sherman.
You can see William Sherman Horrell and William Doyle Horrell's death certificate under the NC Death Certificates 1909-1975.

I am a descendant from the Jonathan Francis Horrell. There is a family reunion each year at Moore's Creek. Hope this helps.
Jamie

Hey. I was very interested in your post. I am a descendant of Jonathan Francis Horrell and Mary Jane Harvey Ritter. They had six children, one of which died just a few short years. I live in Wallace, NC. Jonathan Horrell settled down in what is now called Bladen County, NC. I have traced my heritage back to Jonathan Francis Horrell. I think his father was William Horrell and his mother was Polly (Mary) Bragg. I was wondering if you could forward any information from the Horrells in England. I was also trying to find info on Jonathan Francis Horrell's first wife, Rebecca Dingle. She died not long after giving birth to a son. I have been unable to obtain any info on either one. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Larry,
My husband is a great-grandson of Tom & Mattie Ann Horrell. His grandmother, Lora Belle, was a sister to your great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" (Horrell) Adams. We have been researching the Horrell line for many years and still finding new "stuff". We visited every year with Martin Adams when we would go to Lampasas for a reunion of the Hatley family. We always looked forward to seeing him. We were fortunate enough to be able to attend his retirement party also. Don't know if you are interested in any of the information we have, but if so we are more than happy to share with you. That goes without saying to any Horrell researcher. Look forward to hearing from you.
Louise Parker
grami-gramps@msn.com

Hello--I'm sure you have discovered by now where these ancestors of yours are buried. I am connected to this line too, but I think they are cousins of my Horrells. Yours are buried in Nelson County, Kentucky, and I seem to find a lot of information on them while looking for mine since some of the names are the same. My ancestor was Louis or Lewis Horrell, and he was the father of an Ed Horrell who is often listed as R. E. Horrell. I think, but am not too sure, that your John Horrell might be brother to my Lewis Horrell, born 1807-1809. He certainly is the son of Richard Horrell from Maryland. Hope we can connect.
Thanks.
Tresa Reynolds
tereynol@ius.edu

Hi. I had a look at your info on the Ancestry site. I always assume that everyone called Arthur Horrell in 1800s must be my relative as it's very common in my family. Not much luck unfortunately. Thomas and Adelaide are living in Bexley Heath in Kent in 1891 census. He is a butcher. They have children Arthur and Wallace. You can also find the marriage in the BMD in 1881 in Hackney.

Not any real luck finding Thomas before that. I guess your best bet would be to get the marriage cert and look for Thomas' father's name.

In my quest for information on our Benedict D. Horrell who was born about 1791 or 1793 in Virginia, I came across your message. Do you have information on Horrells in Virginia? Benedict had a son named Samuel and Samuel's oldest son was named William C. Horrell. Benedict evidently migrated from Virginia to Kentucky to Arkansas and then Lampasas County, Texas where he died. There are many Benedict Horrells, but so far have not tied in to any of the family lines. Your message is the first I have seen with questions about Horrells in Virginia. Would appreciate hearing from you.

Horrell Devon and USA (NC)

Hi. Further to my other thread below I went ahead with DNA testing. I have entered my results to the various public databases and I have a fairly close match (genetic distance 2 on 30+ markers) with someone who says they are the descendent of Jonathan Francis Horrell. He emigrated from Devon, England to the US c. 1800 and, from this board, his descendents are still there in NC. I am in touch with relatives who still live in Devon so we look to have "crossed the pond". I have my family tree back to c. 1770 reliably and possibly 100 years further back. Any suggestions as to where I could go from here?
