From Rootsweb William Houchin, son of John, is the progenitor of a branch of the family living in
western Indiana, Illinois, and Pocahontas County, WV.
After the formation of Bath County, Va. in 1791, one of the first acts was to appoint William
Houchin, [a surveyor], to survey a road from the headwaters of the Greenbrier River to Ingraham's
Mill.
Listed in Amherst County Va. Militia, from Col. William Cabell's papers, housed at the New York
Historical Society, Rev. War, Lt. William Houchins, William Houchins, and Edward Houtchens.
From Oren F. Morton's History of Highland County, Va., Robert Carlile, David Gwinn and William
Houchin, listed as road surveyors from Bath County, Va.
William is listed on the first tax list in Bath County Va, 1791, and on a Bath County Petition in Oct.
1792.
From Bath County Will Book 2, Aug. 1821, page 360, William is listed among the buyers of the
estate of Jacob Gillespie.

He was a parishioner in St. Peters Parish. He was a "possessioner"

land holder. Records of New Kent County were burned in 1866.
He was reported to have been transported to America as a bond servant
for 6
years with passage paid by William Broadribb in 1666.
There is no actual confirmation (birth or baptismal records) that
Edward and Rebecca were the parents of Edward. There are records in
the Saint Peter's Parish Church that lists two other children for them
but there is no listing for a son Edward. The book, A History of the
Houchin Family by Dr. Paul Houchen, says that the second Edward was
the son of Edward and Rebecca but this is not confirmed. EDWARD HOWCHENS and REBECCA were married about
1685.

do you have any information on a Laura Belle Hoochin/houchin of HorseCave Kent.? she married Simon Morgan about 1899? had 2 sons, John and Carl Elbert Morgan. Carl was my sister in laws father...he would never tell his family anything about his parents or brother. He did say he went to Austraila in 1919 and worked on a uncle's sheep ranch for a year. He (Carl Morgan died in Calif. Feb. 1968)any information would be great.....I can't find the family on any censes in Kent. Thank you mr_ndrws@yahoo.com

My grandmother Elizabeth Agnes Shea was briefly married to a Perry Houchens. I do know that they lived in Groton, CT while he was stationed in the U.S. Navy in the early 1940's. Looking for information John Martin Houchin of Missouri prior to 1900.

I found his Missouri Military Records showing enlisted, Warrensburg, Johnson Co, MO, April 1865 and discharged July 1865. Have no further information.

John settled in Lees Summit MO., Trying to find out who his parents were, siblings etc.

Know he married Mary Jane Burke who died prior to 1900, leaving John to care for their 3 daughters.

Hi,

My mother-in-law is the niece of Irivn Houchens. The following information appearted in her father's obit. Her father was Letcher Houchens.

- Father was Hardine Houchens.

- Brothers were Irvin, W. A. and Buford.

- Sisters were Irene Dockery, Mae Sherman, Bertha Kinslow, Mrs. H. B. Powell, Mrs. Roy Jordan and Mrs. Carl Britt.

Most of the Houchens are in the Glasgow Cemetery. A very large section with a arch that says Houchens that Irvin Houchens put up before his death. There is also a book done on the family. You might check the Glasgow library for a copy or try to contact the Irvin Houchens family.

I have a picture of Euclid Houchens somewhere.

Euclid was my husbands grandfather. Had three sons malcolm, ?(maybe ernest) and william. William had two children one of which is my husband William D Houchens (born 1954 now deceased).

I have a picture that I will try to locate. Write me if you want a photocopy assuming I can find it. I took that pic and several others from that era out of the book to show my kids and am unsure where they are now.

Just a reminder that if you are planning to get one of the new Houchen(s)-Houchin(s) Family CDs, you should contact me at houchens.2@osu.edu for details. We only made 150 of the CDs and when they are gone, there are no plans to make more. As most of you are aware, the Houchin Family in the US book by Dr. Paul Houchen sold out over 50 years ago. The CD gives you the opportunity to have that book in electronic format. It can be read on your computer monitor or printed out by you or at a copying service. Addtionally, the CD contains census and deed files from the early family in Virginia, a GEDCOM file of the family database and a printout of the descendant of the family line. You may want to consider obtaining copies of the CD for your children or grandchildren so they will have the information of the origins of the family in future generations.

Mrs. Ethel Lee Lynn, 89, a resident of Albuquerque for 63 years, passed away Sunday morning, February 2, 2003 at her home at 10509 Schenley Park after a brief illness. Mrs. Lynn was born Ethyl Lee Houchens on October 15, 1913 in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was one of nine children and the daughter of Holly and Nettie Neagle Houchens. Her father was a farmer and photographer. She married Lacy Britt in 1939 and moved to Albuquerque in 1940. Mrs. Lynn was a dedicated Christian who supported many ministries. She loved to help friends in need and to visit the sick in nursing homes and hospitals. Mrs. Lynn is survived by her daughters, Judy Amador of Albuquerque and Marcia Odom of El Paso, TX; grandchildren, Tamara Davenport of Albuquerque, Michele Ridenhour of El Paso, TX and Edward Coleman of San Antonio, TX; her brother, Thomas Houchens of Glasgow, KY; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming blvd. Chapel. Private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pastor Chuck Kofahl of Tramway Community Church, where she was a member, will officiate. My grandfather is Arthur Leo Houchens, his father was Arthur Silas Houchens (married to Thelma Hancock), and his grandfather was James Henry Houchens. According to him my family came from northern Missouri to Stutgart, AR in the mid to late 1800's.
