I have a German ancestor who changed his name from Kaltheisen meaning cold iron or blacksmith who worked with iron to Coldiron when he came to this country. Could Housekeeper name be a translation into English?
Thanks Nan Weber
Boo465@aol.com

I read your message of a year ago mentioning that you did not know the connection to the Manderbach's. I may have some information on that if I can find it.
When I Googled it on my desktop it brought up a Anna Catherine Manderbach who may have been married to a Mathias Housekeeper. My memory tells me that I had seen that somewhere, but I have not added Anna Catherine to my genealogy because I did not find the direct relationship to me. I believe I saw the name on a family tree that I viewed on the web, but I will have to do some research before I can help you out.
I am researching the Manderbach line and may have some things that may help you. Feel free to contact me.

Jim, we have been researching the Houskeeper (Housekeeper) line for many years. We have not been able to find the Manderbach (Manderback) families or the correct decendant lines for the Houskeeper's. We do believe that there have been two Mathias (father and son) and that the first Mathias had other brothers but have been unable to find them as well.

Currently were are trying to find the correct father of a John Houskeeper, born in 1810 to a Margaret Boggs. We can trace her and her husband Joseph Clements, but the story is that John's father was never married to Margaret and that his name was Thomas. The only Thomas that I can find was married to Maria Fossenbenner (Fosenbinder, or other spellings). Thomas and Maria had a lot of children and they also had a son named John, born about 1814.

Would love to hear about your research on the Houskeeper Line or are you researching the Manderbach's?

Jennifer
