Hi Sharon, Stumbled over your post while looking for info on my great,great-grandfather William Rollen Houser. I believe that makes Rollen C my great uncle! The family mostly lived in Lewistown, Mifflin Co, PA.

Wm Rollen Houser married Ada (Annie) E Christ in 1897, hence the middle name I think!

I have some additional information. Contact me if you are interested

Sirs,

Im looking for childern of Houser family. They childern were all born and came from Bohemia ( = Czech = Czechoslowakia = Czech Republic ) from vilage Štětice ( = Stetice ), near city and county Pisek to Amerika.

They relatives their came to Amerika were children of Jan Houser and Barbora ( = also Barbara) Luskova.

They had 13 maybe more children and we have information, that min. 3 were going to Amerika.

Sometimes was also name Houser changed at Hauser.

Some information are, they were going to USA, probably to Chicago and Pisek in North Dacota.

All they children were born in Bohemia about year 1860 !! and after.

I know just some names of they children. In the area in Bohemia near town PISEK were many HOUSER families with many many children - what will maybe also confuse the searching.

PARENTS :

Jan (= John) Houser * 25. 5. 1839 † 14. 10. 1907

He was musician, from vilage Stetice 30 (near town Pisek) house Nr.12. One day his house burnt, later he worked as bugleman for the fire brigade.

Wife of him Barbora (= Barbara) ( born Luskova ) Houserova born 2.12.1840 - 17.12.1930 and she was from Razice house Nr. 7.

THEY PARENTS DIDN CAME TO AMERICA !! they lived and died in Bohemia (Czech = Czech Republic - Czechoslowakia).

CHILDREN :

Definitely Jan and Tomas (John and Thomas) left together to Amerika. They had some emigrant request papers until 23.5.1887 - so I gues - that 1887 they left from Bohemia.

Somebody from family said , some of the children were musician and they played in circus .. but maybe is this wrong !

Some HOUSER visited his relatives in Bohemia and lived in CHICAGO.

Also existed photo of some young lady from her confirmatio and there weere at the picture stamp of photostudio in CHICAGO. So maybe it was his daughter !

Jan = JOHN 5.9.1868 - left in age 19 to Amerika

Tomáš = THOMAS = THOM 10. or 15.11.1870 - ? The interracial group advocated nonviolent direct action to address racial discrimination. Not a mass membership organization, CORE depended on a small group of disciplined activists to conduct their campaigns to desegregate public accommodations, workplaces, and housing. Pioneering the use of sit-ins and other civil disobedience for civil rights causes, the Chicago chapter reached a high point when the organization desegregated White City Roller Rink in 1946. After a failed employment campaign at a department store the following year, the chapter became inactive during the 1950s until its disaffiliation.

A reorganized Chicago chapter benefited from CORE's nationally prominent Freedom Rides through the South in 1961. Its efforts to desegregate Chicago public schools brought attention to enduring racial segregation in the North. The movement crested in 1963, when activists moved beyond picketing and petitioning and sat in at the Board of Education to protest the construction of mobile classrooms for overcrowded black schools. Their direct-action protest attracted more working-class blacks, leading the chapter to de-emphasize its Gandhian roots in nonviolence and interracialism. Chairman Robert Lucas, critical of the failure of the Martin Luther King–led open housing campaign to extract concrete concessions from Mayor Richard J. Daley, led a march in Cicero in 1966. The organization was in decline even before the ill-fated march and remained a paper organization through the rest of the 1960s. The Chicago chapter's efforts to address de facto segregation in schools, housing, and employment anticipated and typified the civil rights movement's difficulty in significantly altering entrenched patterns of racial subordination.

9 ) IM NOT SURE.
Houser Family, Va and Pa

I am searching for the family of my Great Grandfather, Roger Houser(1915-1988). I know that he passed away in Hopewell, Va but I am not sure of his place of birth. It may have been Pennsylvania. I have his father as Andrew Houser born in 1892 in Pennsylvania, and his mother as Lottie, not sure of a maiden name. I have Andrew's parents as John W. Houser and Clara Kinsey. From there, it starts to get a bit confusing. Any information would be great!

John (Humrick) Houser and Maria Barbara Quickel

Hi: I'm hoping someone can help me. I am trying to find "proof" of the marriage of Maria Barbara Quickel and John Humrickhouser. John Humrickhouser, later in life, changed his last name to Houser.

Maria Barbara was the daughter of Johan George Quickel and Maria Ursula Mueller.

I have seen in "print" on the internet that they were supposedly married about 1771 in Lancaster Co., PA. I have also seen that they were married in Germantown, Philadelphia PA.

While I have no doubt that they were married I am still trying to locate some type of documentation which confirms the Quickel Houser relationship.

I find John and Barbara in York Co., PA living across the Little Conewago Creek from Quickel's Church. Many of the birth dates of their children are recorded at Quickel Church. They moved to Shenandoah Co., VA before 1790. And in 1817 John is buying land in Fairfield Co., OH which is where he died in 1831.

If anyone can help me or give me any ideas as to where I should be looking for confirmation of this union I would definitely appreciate it.

Thanks...
Lawrence Houser (1844-1927) son of Peter Houser(?); Indiana

I am looking for information about my great great grandfather, Lawrence HOUSER, his parents, and/or siblings. I have that he was born in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana on December 25, 1844 and died in Coburg, Montgomery County, Iowa on February 16, 1927. I have seen his father listed as Peter HOUSER (b. 1789 in Pennsylvania; d 1879) and his mother as Mary Magdalen WERKHEISER (b. 1792 in Pennsylvania). This would have made Mary 52 years old when Lawrence was born. So, I am not sure if his father was really Peter HOUSER or if it was a different Peter HOUSER. Another source states that Lawrence was actually born with the surname of RENN and his name was changed when he was "adopted". Can anyone help me clear up this discrepancy?

John Houser, York Pennsylvania

Trying to find some information on my GGGrandfather. His name was John Houser and I believe lived in York, Pennsylvania. I have his wife as Clara, but I am not sure of a maiden name. Possible parents are Andrew and Martha J. Houser. John also had a son named Andrew. Sometime then ended up moving to Prince George, Va. Anybody have any connections or information?

I don't know if I can help, but I'm trying to see if James connects also to the Houser line I'm working with. I research the Homrighausen lineage which originates in Hesse Darmstadt (Nordrhein Westphalia) Germany. One group immigrated 1748. One son stayed in Maryland and spelled it Humrichouse. Two sons eventually passed through VA before settling in Fairfield Co, Ohio, next door to Muskingum. They spelled it Houser. I've seen James's name show up, but can't connect him. James' descendants show up in the same area (Jay and Randolph counties in Indiana) as Jonathan Houser who is from one of the FF county lines. Jonathan is buried in the same cemetery as James. I have no further info up James's line, and am hoping we can work to share some info.
Hi Carrie,

The John Houser in my tree was born 29 Jan 1808 in Frederick County, VA and died 18 Dec 1891 in Wood County, WV. He and his family moved to Wood County sometime in the 1840s and he lived there the rest of his life. His father was Frederick who lived in Frederick (later Warren) County in the early 1800s. He and his wife Mary had seven children, including John.

There maybe some family connection here but the two Johns don't match up.

Thanks for the note.

My gggrandmother was Mary (Mollie) Houser Stout, wife of Jacob Stout. At the same time they were living in Pickaway County (Mid 1800's), there was another Jacob Stout apparently married to Catherine Margaret Houser, who also lived in the county. My great-grandfather, Jeremiah Stout, son of Jacob and Mollie, was married at the home of Solomon Stout, son of Jacob and Catherine. I cannot establish a relationship through the Stout family. Am thinking that Mollie and Catherine might have been sisters. Does ANYONE know the parents of EITHER Houser lady?

I guess I worded it wrong. I know that Robert didn't write his own obit. But we're just not sure where the name Mariel Christoff came from.

Robert Houser DOB: July 17, 1929 (This is the date, we as a family, were always told. However, his social security records list his date as July 12, 1929. Not sure why and he never explained.) I'm not sure where he was born, but a 1930 census that I found, and believe to be his family, was from Springfield, Clark, Ohio. Which would have made him only a few months old. He died in April 2007.

My grandfather did mention that he had a brother, George. And I believe other siblings as well. But I don't know their names. He also told us that his father committed suicide. I found a newspaper article for a Silvester Housier from Portsmouth, Ohio who committed suicide. The date of the newspaper is a little difficult to read, but I think it says May 1937. And this article is linked to Maud.

There's a lot of mystery surrounding my grandfather. He never spoke much about his past. And what he did tell us, we're not sure if it's all true. Here's what I've been told:

He served in WWII. He said that he had to lie about his age to join.
His father, Sylvester, died when my grandfather was young.
He mentioned that he was of Cherokee decent. I'm guessing that was his mother's side. We don't know her name.
He had siblings. One was named George.
He was with my grandmother, Betty Jane Guenther. I can't find any evidence that they were legally married.

Willard Houser (or Howsare) is the brother of my great-grandmother Eveline Virginia (who maried Benjamin F Davis). Wilson was the son of Andrew Jackson Howsare (alt spelling) and Margaret Mills. Andrew was the son of Jacob Howsare, who was the son of Christian Howsare. All lived in Bedford Co, VA. If you would like more information, let me know.

Willard and Eveline had other siblings (Joseph W, Mary Eve, Murray B, Florence Agnes, Allie J, and Huldah).

A lot of these names are known by different spellings, or first/middle names inverted and sometimes incorrect. So I hope this information is accurate.

Fran Davis
franniedavis@verizon.net

These Housers are all related to Homrighausens that settled in York County, PA in 1748, and their families eventually moved west to Fairfield Co, Ohio. The 1820 census records have some with an H. Houser for a middle and last name. Many branches of the family settled in the state-Tuscarawas, Coshocton, Wayne, Holmes, Darke, Ashland counties among others. This line is not related to the Houser families from Miami, Clermont and other counties, that were originally from Pennsylvania
