Mary had children from Elias Wedge, PETER HOWARTH and Unknown Underwood.

I am trying to find more information about one of Mary Fay's sons, Achilles Underwood.

I have very limited information about the Achilles Underwood I'm researching. All I have is that he was from Michigan. He was in Fiji by 1862 where he had cotton plantations. He died 1871 in Fiji.

I'm trying to find a link between my ancestor Achilles Underwood and Mary Fay's son Achilles Underwood.

A few years ago we corresponded about the Ravish family and the Howarths who lived in Portsmouth.

Since then I have found a birth certiicate for a Rosina Minnie Ravish Howarth who was born on 2 March 1897 in Southsea to a Kate Howarth. No father's info is given on the birth certificate. In 1901 Kate, now Kate Reynolds, was a domestic servant and was employed as a housekeeper by Walter Ravish in Sultan Road, Portsmouth.

In 1911 census Walter Ravish appears on the census with a daughter Rosina who was born around the same time. I am guessing that this is Rosina Minnie Ravish Howarth. Kate Reynolds nee Howarth is living at 12 Warwick Street, Portsmouth with her husband and children.

When Rosina married in 1915 her father's name is down as Walter Howarth (deceased) and occupation given as engineer. Although the surname is not Ravish I think that this is Walter Ravish as he did die a couple of years earlier and his occupation on some census returns does appear as an engineer.

Is Rosina Walter's illegitimate with Kate or did Kate get pregnant whilst in service and Walter kindly take the child in?

Rosina Minnie was also a witness at the wedding of Kate's eldest daughter Gladys Kate in 1917 to Gilbert John Beechey. Rosina and Gladys Kate would have been half sisters and Gladys and Gilbert named their first daughter Rosina Minnie.
To confuse matters worse Walter Ravish was a witness at the wedding of Kate Howarth to George Reynolds in 1898.

John Charles Howarth, draper and commission Agent, married Jane Millen about 1821 in Bristol and lived at Bath.He died by 1851. I am anxious to find out about Johns father and mother in the UK. John had a son called Robert Millen Howarth who was a music teacher at Bath and he married Matilda Gibbs. Robert and Matildas son Frederick immigrated to Melbourne, Australia,in May 1863, trained as a carpenter and settled in Ballarat, Victoria, making pianos.

As I have said before Walter Ravish was a witness at the wedding of my GG Grandmother Kate Howarth to George Reynolds at St Thomas' Church, Portsmouth on 18 Sep 1898.

In the 1901 census Kate is housekeeper for Walter and his 2 son's. Happy for any info.

That's very interesting. I had 11 children for John and Margaret but Sally and Lucy take it up to 13 for me too. John and Margaret are my direct ancestors through their son William.

The IGI has James Barton Redfern born 26.4.1799 and christened 22.5.1799 at St Mary's, Bury, parents John & Margaret. I have tons of information for James and his descendants, also there were 2 more sisters which I found...

Sally Redfern, BURIAL Sally Redfern 30 May 1787, father John Redfearn St Mary the Virgin, Bury, date of death 29 May 1787(FS) and

Lucy Barton Redfern born c.1788 Died 26 Feb 1849 aged 60 at Price Street, Birkenhead.

I've passed Lucy Barton's details onto Mike Redfern, so if they have Mike's Redfern History, you may find Lucy Barton Redfern on other sites.

I also have the descendants of Thomas Redfern b.24 Apr 1794.

John & Margaret had at least 13 children.

I have a James Morton Redfern as a brother for the siblings you mention. The IGI has him born 26.4.1799 and christened 22.5.1799 at St Mary's, Bury. I've found nothing more about him and had wondered whether he died in infancy.

This wouldn't be the first Barton/Morton confusion in this family, and it could be the same person. On the other hand, we could be dealing with two unrelated people. I've found various websites dealing with the descendants of John Redfern and Margaret (Peggy) Morton, and none of them record anything for James while providing quite a lot of info on his siblings.

First child (Susan) born in New York, the rest in Wisconsin. They were divorced about 1871. William died in Wisconsin in 1900 and Ann died in Michigan (UP) in 1899. His mother was Gladys

Stanley was married first to Ivy and had 3 Children one was Dulcie Christie and a brother Stanley the other was in the war. There may have been more but records only tell me 3 children.
My father's Grandfather was Robert Bonaparte Howarth married Eliza McGeorge.

Robert Bonaparte Howarth came from Lancashire UK and settled in Orange NSW Australia as a gold miner.

Robert Bonaparte Howarth's father was Ophius Howarth, the biggest family in Orange but came from Lancashire UK.

Beyond this knowledge there are too many HOWARTHs' to identify.

I would really like to know if our blood line is from Mary Queen of Scots? apparantly there is somewhere.

In August of 1835, Edmund BROWN (1806-1853) married Susan A. WOODBURY (1816-1897). To my knowledge there were three children born to this marriage:

1. Eleanora (Ella/Nellie) M. BROWN (b.28 Jul 1837; d. 02 Sep 1915). Ella married Nathaniel APPLETON on 05 Jan 1865. I believe there were five children born to Ella and Nathaniel APPLETON:
Edward A. b. 1868; Anna A.B. b. 1870; Georgie E. b. 1873; Jennie E. b. 1874 and Susie May b. 1877.

2. Edmund A. BROWN (b.25 Dec 1842- d. after 1910). Edmund married Annie A. MOULTON on 24 Dec 1865. I know of four children to that marriage:
Harry Moulton b.. 1870 (d.l871); Herbert C. b. Sep 1872; Clarence W. b. 31 Jul 1875; Edith M. b.29 Jul 1877.

3. Ezra Woodbury Brown (my g-g grandfather) b. 21 Sep 1843; d. 29 Oct 1901. Ezra married Mary Dorothy HOWARTH on 10 Aug 1865. The three children know from that marriage are:
Louis M. b. 30 July 1866; Frank Howarth b. 06 May 1869 and Ezra Austin (my great grandfather) b. 16 Jul 1872.

My “brick wall” goes back to the parents of the first Edmund BROWN, born in 1806. All records state that he was born in “Stockholm, Sweden”. ‘Just hoping someone may be able to help and I am also interested in connecting with other descendants of Edmund A. and Susan A. Woodbury BROWN.

Sorry I was so slow with this reply, in re; your post from 1999. My paternal ancestors were Howarths some of whom lived in the NJ area, some in NY. Some of the family moved to Florida, where they opened a hotel. My father was John Howarth, aka Adam Howarth, born sometime around 1916, I think. He had at least nine siblings. One sister, Mary, became a nun. My father's parents emigrated to the U.S. That's about all the information I have. I don't know if we're the same family. I discovered that quite a large group of Howarths emigrated from Hungary to NJ, but have no idea if these Howarths are related to me. Any info you have would be very welcome.

My Father was Floyd C. Howarth, born in Detroit Mi. floyd's Mother was Florence Squires and father was George Howarth. Floyd had a brother Earl Howarth, and a half-sister named Leona. Floyd was born in 1925, died in 2008. Earl was born in 1923, and died in 1980 or 81. Leona lived in Ohio, with one daugter I believe named Madeline. I think Leona passed away in the early 80.s My grandfather George lived in Detroit and Ohio. My Father Floyd was born and raised in Detroit. My uncle Earl was a truck driver. Don't know much about Earl. Hope this helps in your search.

English and Welsh marriage certificates never list the mother's name (though I have seen a case of it when the groom was illegitamite)

There is no space for it on the certificate.

So don't worry about it's ommission

In addition...William Howarth/Haworth was a cotton weaver.
I have just looked at the wedding certificate and it only has the father's names on it.
The missing mother's name is from Sarah Jackson nee Haworth's death certificate.

I have a Sarah Haworth born in Oldham about 1841. I know she married William Jackson in 1861, in Oldham and I have got the marriage certificate, unfortunately the mother's name is not listed (which could be because she had died) and her father was listed as William Howarth.

Now its difficult to trace back Sarah's family with this information. Sarah and William moved away to West Yorkshire before moving to New Zealand in 1877.

If anyone has a Sarah Howarth/Haworth born about 1841 to a William Haworth/Howarth in Oldham I would be greatly interested.

I am a direct descendant from Thomas, and have been researching his family for over 35 years. I know his brother Abraham 11/6/1820 came out to australia, also his brother Robert.

Dec 1863 in Droylsden, Lancashire, England came to America in 1890 with his wife Ada Whitaker b June 1865 in Rishton, Lancashire, England and daughter ertha Howarth b. Aug 1885 in the K and his son Harry Howarth B. July 1884 in Oldham Lancashire England. I believe his parents are Wright and Sarah Howarth. If anyone can verify this information I would appreciate any help I can get The information I have on Benjamin and Ada are from Imigration and the 1900 census only.

Your grandfather Milner is the Great great uncle of my friend Barry, whose family tree I've been researching for some years on and off. All I know of your grandparents descendants is a daughter named Carol whom I believe married someone with a surname of McNulty though I haven't confirmed this. Perhaps you can? Would you be Carol's son or the son of any siblings Carol may have had?

I see from my notes that Carol may have been living in Brisbane in 2009. What a catastrophic time everyone has had there of late. Barry's brother lives in Fairfield suburb - he was one of the luckier ones with the flood only reaching half way up his house.

It always feels a quite intrusive to talk about people who may still be living - however I can assure you that I do not publish any of the tree in the public domain.

Seeking info on Stella Howarth. She enlisted in the womens land army o May 13th 1946. Says she and 23 other girls signed on and they all lived in hotels while in service and had a great time working on the surrounding farms while the men were away at War. I have a letter saying she and 23 other girls were staying at the Burbush House in Burley England when she wrote the letter it's dated Feb 10th, 1948. 1.Margaret Lucy Ann Howarth. Born 3 Jul 1825, chris.16 Jul 1825 St Mary,Bury. Lucy was a Nurse living with one of
Elizabeth’s brothers John Smith Redfern in Bury 1841 & 1851 census. It appears Lucy married James Heslop Clegg
29 May 1851 St Mary Bury. James was a shopkeeper at Spotland Rochdale 1861. Her great aunt, Lucy Barton
bequeathed to Lucy Ann 19 guineas in her will proved July 1854. James died Sep qtr 1865 Rochdale. Her aunt, Margaret Juliana Redfern gave Lucy Ann an annuity of £20 in her will proved January 1872. Lucy may have been the landlady of the Wind Mill Inn at Almondsbury Yorkshire, in 1871. She then married John Sutcliff Halstead June qtr 1877 St Paul,Bury, John was a Cotton Manufacturer and was living at Stansfield, Todmordon in 1881, he died Dec Q 1884 aged 67.Lucy was still alive at the time of the 1901 census, under the name Margaret L A Halstead.

John Samuel Redfern Howarth was born 25 June 1827,Elizabeth died 9 November 1827, and John was christened, 18 November 1827. It appears that Elizabeth was buried with her parents and two of her grandparents

Looking for anyone with Slender Billy in their family tree. He was active with Joseph Livesey in the teetotal movement. I'm trying to find out about his granddaughter Elizabeth Howarth b.Jun 1852 Preston (daughter of Robert). She married a William Henry Howarth 14 Dec 1875; he was born c. 1852. Who was he? Where did he come from? Was he a cousin? We now suspect he changed his name to John William Ross and fled to the US in 1877. If so, why?

I have managed to trace my GG Grandfathers through census and business directories, I have him on the 1841 census age 15, in Manchester living with:

John Howarth, (age 30), Harriet Howarth (30), John Howarth (10), Sarah Howarth (6), William Howarth (2)

I have a copy of his marriage certificate for his wedding to Rosannah Curran (b1830) in 1845. On that his father is listed as Thomas Howarth with an occupation of "slater" recorded. One of the witnesses is "John Howarth" who I believe one of the Johns recorded on the 1841 census.

I am trying to find out where and when he was born and confirm the details of his parentage.

The details of his wife and children are:
