Hi kiwikirk, yes I'm one of Una's daughters. Are you a daughter of Bruce Kirk? We're definitely related. I've been concentrating research on our ancestry in England, but also the family tree since 1863 in NZ. This is a very busy time of year! Hope to keep in contact with you though. Jenny

Hi Brenda. William Henry Kirk is my grandfather but he died before I was born. My mother, Una Kirk, was the youngest of the three children of William Henry Kirk's second wife Olive Huband. Your grandfather, Wilfred Edgar Kirk, is my mother's older brother. I wonder if you are Bruce's daughter?

I have The Albertlanders book. For some time I have been researching the English history of our Hubands, before they came to New Zealand in 1863. I have a copy of the marriage certificate of William Huband (born 1825 Evesham, Worcestshire) and Emma Marigold (born 1825 Shenstone, Staffordshire). I also have a copy of James Kirk's birth certificate, your great-great grandfather, born in 1840 in Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire. James's parents are Samuel Kirk and Mary Ann Kirk nee Bramley.) I would be happy to send you copies of these. Best wishes, Jenny

Hello, I'm researching my Aunt's tree and her mother was a Huband who I believe is also a descendant of Thomas & Frances Strain. The oral family history that came down to my aunt from her mother was that somewhere in the past there was nobility. She has given me some pieces of information and I have been trying to piece it altogether. Would you be prepared to cross check what I believe I have discovered with what you have? I have it all on paper at the moment so will wait for your reply before I start typing it up. Thanks for your time, Pam

I believe that the eldest child of the Huband family I am looking for was Thomas - born in Dunnington in 1787 - he married Sarah Fullbrook of Hampstead in London on 7 December 1807- he worked as a coachman in the Queen's stables in Bushey, Hampton until his death in 1867 - there is a record in the probate calendar (tho' I have not yet sought sight of the will etc).

Another brother was apparently James Huband - born 1793 - who also worked at Bushey Park.

Elizabeth (my 3x Great Grandmother) was apparently born in Dunnington in about 1803 - she married Richard Lewis on 28 July 1825 - Richard was a railway contractor and moved a lot with the family - by 1841 they were in Godstone, Surrey (working later in Lincs, Sussex and Worcs).

Brother George born 1807-ish was a gamekeeper who apparently never married - he seems to have given a start in gamekeeping to Elizabeth's son Thomas Huband Lewis - my 2x Great grandfather - he moved around too but was for a while in Hurcott Lodge, Nr Kidderminster...

I have also looked at the 1850 gazette for Dunnington - saw the listing for William - shoemaker - and also James H. - shopkeeper. 1874 Gazette shows Ann H. as shopkeeper. All this a little too late to shed light on the 1780-1810 family situation.

I will try to get to the Warwick public recodrd office at some time to look further at parish records - tho' you have probably done this already!

Anyway- thanks for reacting so quickly.

Vic Coleman

Hi I have done a lot of research on the Huband Family, as you say a lot on Arrow, and have a data base of nearly 5000 references to the name huband but I'm afraid only three to Hubands of Dunnington. John Huband Birth registered Jan 1834 (I have a note that I think he married a Louisa Jane)
a William appears in the 1850 Gazette listed as a shoemaker and thirdly John Huband died 10th.June1845 Age56, the death witnessed by William of Dunnington.
Not much I know but it you have references to Elizabeth, George and Thomas ( DOB,Census,Marriage, Death etc.) perhaps I can look further.
Derek Huband

Hubands of Salford Priors

My 3x great grandmother was Elizabeth Huband Born around 1800 in Dunnington, Salford Priors - she married Richard Lewis a railway contractor in 1825 in Salford. I know she had brothers - younger George (gamekeeper), elder Thomas (who worked in Queen victoria's stables in Bushey park, Middlesex)- probably others. I have seen vast amount of work done on Hubands from Salford, Weethley and Arrow but have not yet been able to connect my part of the tree to others. Does anyone know of a Huband family in Dunnington from around 1785 to 1805 at least with children including Elizabeth, Thomas and George?
Any help gratefully received!
Vic Coleman

I believe Samuel was born in 1842. There is some confussion about his father; On his marriage certificate he names his father as William, as you say, but on his birth certificate his parents are shown as John & Elizabeth. John married twice first to Judy and secondly to Elizabeth both of whom gave birth to sons called William in 1825 and 1837 respectively. Since Samuel was born less than a year before Johns death at the age of 59 I think it is possible that Samuels parents were actually William(From Judy) and John's second wife Elizabeth. No proof but would explain why Elizabeth is on his birth certificate? Any help would be appreciated.
I now have all the children of Samuel and Hannah and their descendants through the help of Patrick huband who is descended from Samuel John's brother Walter Howard. You can contact me directly on dhuband@aol.com
My gggrandfather was John Huband, Thomas's elder brother.
I also believe but as yet have not been able to prove that they were descended from John Tibbots Huband whose parents were Anthony Huband and Marry Tibbots. Anthony's parents were Nicholas Huband and Dorother Danvers which would give us a direct link to the Hubands of Ipsley, three Baronets and a number of Sirs. If you have proof of the link to John Tibbots I would be very interested

You may have found your answer by now, but in case you haven't:

Samuel John's parents seem to be Samuel Huband, born abt 1845, in Arrow, Warwickshire, and Hannah Dexter, born abt 1851 in Walsall, Staffordshire. They had nine children, including Samuel John and Edith Maud. I have more on the children that I can send if you want it.

Samuel's father was named William, but I don't know his mother's name. I haven't yet figured out how William connects to the other Hubands in the Arrow/Alcester area. If you've gained some insight on this in the years since you posted your inquiry, I'd love to hear about it.

Hi, my great grandfather William Henry Kirk married Emily Huband, daughter of William and Emma in 1889. When Edith died in 1899, William then married her sister Olive in 1902. My grandfather was the oldest of William and Olive's children - Wilfred Edgar kirk.

WIlliam and Emma were part of the original settlers called Albertlanders and they settled around Maungaturoto. This was where Edith and Olive were born. If you have not already found it there is a very good book called the Albertlanders that mentions both the hubands and the Kirks.

Hope to hear from you

Brenda

Rick,
I know little of the Wiltshire Hubands as they are not part of my tree but my assumptions that the Wiltshire Hubands descended from the Hubands of Ipsley is based on Sir John Huband of Leominsters will(1587), which can be found on the Nation Archives Cat.Ref.prob/11/66, Image 266,
in which he leaves his estates in Berkshire and Southhampton to his younger brother William. Another John of this family married the dau.of Sir Henry Poole, Baron of Oakly in Wiltshire.
I beleive it probable that the hubands of Wiltshire are descended from the younger brother of Sir John Huband of Leominster , whose actual family home since 1066 was Ipsley in Warwickshire, I will provide dates and further detail if required.
Regards

My husband is a Huband from Wiltshire in England. I have not been able to verify yet, but his family legend is that they are descended from Huguenots from France. Which would mean that their family at least were protestant and persecuted out of France in and around the 17th century.

Hope that helps.
Has anyone done a study of the breakdown by religion of people with the Huband surname? My branch of the Hubands were Roman Catholics from Germany. Huband is not a common name in Germany, and I'm wondering if the ancestors left England as part of religious persecutions in the 15th or 16th centuries. So far I can only trace my branch back to the late 1700s in Germany.

Just Found your re Henry John Huband, who married my wife's 1st cousin twice removed, and died on 10/9/1952. His Obit in The Times of 12/9/1952 reads:
"MR. H. J. HUBAND
Mr. Henry John Huband, honorary treasurer of the Football Association and president of the London Football Association, died suddenly at his home in London on Wednesday night at the age of 84.
Born in 1868, he served in the Inland Revenue Department for more than 66 years, and for long was clerk to the Commissioners of Inland Revenue for the St. George's, Hanover Square district of London. He became a member of the council of the London Football Association as long ago as 1893, and was one of the founders of the Isthmian League in 1905, becoming successively honorary secretary and president. In 1923 he succeeded Lord Kinnaird as president of the London Football Association, and 11 years later was elected honorary treasurer of the Football Association, having been a member of the council since 1907. He was a member of the finance and general purposes committee, and of the international selection committee, and was also a member of the joint standing committee of the Football Association and the Football League.
He married in 1898 Marie Ethel, fourth daughter of Mr Whetnall Stevens, who survives him, together with a daughter of the marriage."
I'm still looking for the name of the daughter & anything you might have on her fate . . .
Regards
Don Montague

Just wanted to thank you so much for the information found on William Perry Huband, my great-great grandfather, through my mother's grandmother, Rose Huband. I have spent considerable time on my own line, Barborka, and father's line, I have just started looking at Mom's, for which there has been much work done. Your info has filled in many gaps and taken the Huband line much farther back than I had. Thanks so much. I look forward to driving up to Odgen some Saturday and taking a picture of the old house.
Vince Barborka

Henry and Eliza Huband (nee Jones) were my great-great-grandparents.

George and Mary Huband, along with two of their children, Henry and Eliza, came to Timaru, New Zealand, on the ship “Lancashire Witch” in 1863. Henry married Eliza Jones in 1870. My great-grandfather, George James (b. 1878, Timaru), was one of Henry’s and Eliza’s sons.

I have loads of info on their descendants, most still living in NZ, if you’re still interested.

I would love to know more about Henry’s parents, George and Mary – and the rest of their children. I haven’t done much research into George and Mary yet, but I do know that George was born about 1807/1808, and Mary in 1808; and that their children were Ann, Charles, William, Emma, Henry and Eliza. I have seen some records on Ancestry.com for a George, born in Alcester, 1807, who is the son of Thomas and Frances Huband (nee Strain). Census records for the George and Mary I’m after suggest that this may be the same George – do you know if this is correct?
