My name is Jonathan and interestingly enough, my brothers name is Robert Lee Huffines.

I read this article in the USA Today Newspaper and went to their website in order to be able to share it all with you.
-------------
Excerpt from article: "Histories are being rescued a second time"

VERMILLION, S.D. — In the basement of a campus building at the University of South Dakota, students and professors are working to preserve eyewitness accounts of American history before they are lost to the elements.

Link to full article:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-12-10-history-prese...

I thought the group might be very interested in this. Would be interesting if anyone out here has actually listened to one of these and to share what that was like.

Gary Hodges, Board Admin

Unidentified Pics

I have some pics which most likely are family and friends of the HUFFINE(S) side of my family... possible surnames are HOUSE, HUFFINE or HUFFINES, McCOY, ROSE, STARRETT, TREAT, although friends in the pics will probably have other names. I believe most or all of the subjects in these photos are going to be from the 1900's, located mostly in AR, OK, or AZ. I have posted most of these photos at http://www.jespiddlin.net/oldpics/ and would appreciate all help identifying these folks. Thanks in advance!

Gary, where are you living in Ky? I am in Bowling Green. I am researching this family for a friend. This is what I have: Brenda (friend) is the daughter of Sue Minnix, daughter of Lillian Huffines and Robert Minnix, daughter of Stanley Huffines and Tinnie/Tiny/Kuma/Cumie Tittle. Stanley's death certificate states father as Nathan Huffines and Polly Denson, but found her as Gentry (1880 census). The information was given by Tinnie and this side of the family was not very educated. Lillian had quite a bit of indian blood, but cannot trace this. Don't know if it came from Huffines or Tittle. I can not find Nathan or his mother Peggy before 1880. Keep in touch and thanks again for answering. At this point will take any info I can get.

Don't know if this is the same Polly. Found her and her mother (also Polly), both listed as Mary in 1870 census. Children were William, Polly/Mary, Kissie (all Denson.) Then Jonathan Gentry. Sometime after 1880 she had Stanley and don't know if there were any more children with Nathan Huffines. All were listed as born in Tn. Nathan had his mother living with him and her name was Peggy. Polly's father was Thomas. Any info is appreciated. Thank you for answering.

Hi Judy,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner..been really busy and out of pocket. Anyway, I am in Lexington...just a hop, skip and a jump from you I suppose? : )

Check the Boards "Link & Announcements" link...I just posted information on where to get this letter that I mentioned to Denise. I haven't had time to see if what your after is in it..but its 12 pages of Huffines for TN, KY & NC.

Maybe we could meet someday? Hey! I have an idea...why not have a Family Historian picnic and invite all the nearby historians for a discussion on Huffines..or whatever? Just a thought. : )

Take care and hope to hear from you again.

Gary
P.S. This thing needs a spell checker... LOL

Hi Denise,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Its been pretty hectic lately. Also, it took me a very long time to scan, clean-up the letter I mentioned and what not.

Anyway, see the Links & Announcements link on the Board for my posting on this subject and the link to the letter. I have other stuff I may scan someday....(its a lot of work) : )

I may startup a Huffines family history Blog? I don't think anyone is doing a Family History blog anywhere and I think it may be the way to go with this whole Board thing. Its much more interactive.

Ya' know, it would be great to pull together the Huffine history experts and they could all be Editors on the site....<I could write a lot more here about this, but will save it for an email to you or something> If your interested let me know? I just published my first blog, I write poetry, so I thought I'd give it a shot, since Web sites are rapidly falling off the planet.

Oh for those that don't know about Blogs vs Web Sites....the whole point of a Blog, as is the Internet, is to share information. The problem in the past is that ONE person is controlling the content and updating...etc. The great thing about a blog is...that one can post the varying aspects of their research or whatever....and get near immediate feedback. In the case of boards the problem is a lot of 'discussions' are taken off-line, and no one gets the benefit of the interaction/information. This would not be the case with a Blog. (Something to consider)
: )

Thanks,

Gary

Judy!! I may have something for you...with my last post...being from the 1880 Census of TN. I beleive you have this info. already. It would indicate that mother Polly Gentry was born abt 1797. That being the case I found the following: (again at the Fam. Hist Web site)

There is a James Dickinson (most likely related to mother Polly by prev. marriage, of course). His Father, Benjamin, born Abt 1771 in Caroline Co., VA and mother Mrs. (no 1st name) who were married 23 Mar 1809. It also shows that he had a 1st wife named Rachel Harris. His father's name is James b Abt 1745, same location. In turn, James father is listed as Griffen b Abt 1712, also same location...then his father in turn is shown as Thomas b. Abt 1685 in VA.
See this link for more> http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/AF/family_group_recor...

Polly Gentry has nothing more listed for this line. But shows they had 6 children; Mary b. Abt 1826, Martha b. Abt 1828, James b. Abt 1824, d. 1866, Benjamin b. 1817, d. 1845, John b. 1819, Robert b. 1821. all children shown born in Crln, VA.

Not sure if this helps?

By way of introduction I am the Board admin, relatively new admin, for these lines: Hofheins, Hofheintz, Huffhines, Huffine, Huffines.

I think I know why Denise hasn't found anything as the line your researching is from England, whereas her's and mine originated from Germany. The variations on surnames for our lines start with Hofheintz and take on many forms mostly ending up as Huffine, I have found the Hofheintz line still is used today but is rare. Furthermore, from England the surnames appear to have started as HYPHIN, HUPHING, HUFFIN, HUFFON, HUFFEN and so on...with some changes through the years, my research for these lines start in the 1600's. I haven't pursued it further since my line is from Germany. Finally, the line your researching may be difficult, but not insurmountable. Finding that 'key' that unlocks the areas we become stuck in is half the fun, right Denise? :)

I'm also sure that if anyone knows the Hofheintz line...Denise does. <plug for Denise> :)

Anyway, I hope this helps and if I find anything more I'll post it. Oh, I did a quick check and none of the Eng. line of surnames, above, have a Board started yet<hint..hint> :)

Good luck...oh, almost forgot...Denise? I ended up moving to Kentucky recently, I have no idea why!! LOL, but maybe I'm going to disprove my line is from the Northern branch of Georg Hofheintz? I have this very old letter that I ran across that has some stuff that may prove to be very interesting to you...more on this later, its about 10 legal size pages thick on the Hofheintz tree for Tenn, NC & KY branches

I am looking for information on Louisa Huffines b 1843 in TN, that married William B Scott Dec 20,1860 in Wayne Co, TN. These are their children: Rebecca, Phillip S.H.,George N.,Thomas and Eliza. I find Lou Scott in the 1880 census in Stone Co, Arkansas as widowed. The youngest child was born aprox 1873. I have found info on the Huffines, but am needing info on William B Scott.
My greatgrandfather was George Newton Scott b. Feb 22, 1869 in TN. Some older members of the family thinks he had a brother named John and a sister named Elizabeth, maybe called her Lizzie. My ggrandfather's children's names were: Thomas Benjamin, Maggie Louisa (or Louiza) Myrtle, Robert Bartley (or Bart Lee, my grandfather), William Drew, Lillie Mae Rosa, Lydia Bell, Lela Martha Ethie (or Ethel), and Viola Violet. And most had nicknames: Thomas was "Pete", Maggie was Myrtle, Robert was Bob, William was "Bud",
Lillie was Lillie, Lydia was Liddie, Lela was "Cricket", and Viola was "Ode".
If anyone has information on William B Scott who married Louisa Huffines, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Connie (Scott) Shepherd

I have a death certificate for Stanley Huffines s/o Nathan and Polly. This is on the certificate: Father Nathan Huffines, mother Polly Dennison (Denson) (maiden name was actually Gentry, she was married before Nathan) . Father and mothers place of birth is listed as Ky, but they were in Jackson County, Tn 1880, 1900. 1910, Clay County Census. Stanley listed his place of birth and parents as Tn in census records. Stanley was born Nov. 18,1883, died Jan. 5,1938. Cannot find him until 1910 in Ky. Nathan was born about 1853 and Polly was born about 1842, don't know when they died and Tn doesn't have any info that I could find. Peggy Huffines was listed as Nathan's mother in 1880 census, born about 1812? (Kind of old to have a son that age.) According to my friend, none of her people could read or write. She is the great grand daughter of Stanley. Cannot find Nathan or Peggy before 1800 and it is driving me mad. There is supposed to be Indian (Cherokee) on this side of the family. Stanley was married to Tiny, Tinnie, Kuma, Cumie Tittle. See what I mean about the spelling? Thanks for answering and trying to help me out!!!! I have been in all the sites I can think of and still hitting a brick wall. Let me know if you come up with anything. And thanks again.

Hi Judy, I've looked in my personal database but haven't been able to locate this family right off. If you could perhaps give me a little more info - date of death/birth - from the death certificate that might help me to pin point the family. I'll be glad to do what I can to help. - Denise

Re: Huffhines Research in Jackson County Tennessee

Help. I am researching family for a friend. Her great grandfather was Stanley Huffines s/o Nathan Huffhines (Have three different spellings on last name) and Polly Denson according to his death certificate. Found Nathan in 1880-1920 in Jackson County Tennessee, but could not find him before that. His mother was listed as Peggy Huffine. Could not find her either. If any of this sounds familiar, could you please let me know. I have hit a brick wall.

Pless Huffines and Nelle Goddard, possibly parents of Will D. Huffines /Ark to Texas

Looking for anyone related to the Pless Huffine family below. Nelle may have married a Hillary Flournoy of Fluvanna Texas in the 1920s or 1930s. She died in Fluvanna in 1945. Her son Will D. or W.D. or Dub was a Huffine child. He may have gone by Flournoy later on. Not really sure. Nelle may have died of cancer. I am not sure where Fluvanna, Scurry County is but they always said she was in Houston.

Sincerely Tracie Tudor Gross

1920 United States Federal Census:
Charles Goddard In Arkansas
Name: Charles K Goddard
Age: 59 years
Estimated birth year: 1860
Birthplace: Tennessee
Race: White
Home in 1920: Spring, Searcy, Arkansas
Roll: T625_81
Page: 2A
ED: 116
Image: 0512

Charles K.
Re: Cameron, Huffines, Pace in TX

My great grandmother was Sarah, or Sallie, Huffines of this same family. She married Charles Goldberg and lived most of her life in Texarkana. Her daughter Mattie Alexandria Goldberg was the third wife of my great grandfather Wilson Polk Wallace of Hempstead County, Arkansas. They had nine children, one of whom was my grandmother. I have a letter from my mother's first cousin which gives information about this family that I will be happy to share. I am particularly interested in finding out when the Huffines came to Texas.

Re: JACOB HUFFINES

Is this the Jacob Huffhines born May 15, 1769 who married Anna Maria Chrisman?

If so - - I'm interested in their daughter Catherine Huffines, born 1807. I believe she married Robert Marshall in North Carolina and then moved west with a large group of family and friends. By the time they settled in Hancock County, Indiana, Robert had died. But she married James Denny there. He may have been part of the group that moved from NC to IN.
Any further information you may have about these Huffines will be much appreciated. There is some debate as to whether Catherine's daughter, Sarah, was a Marshall or a Denny.

Sarah was my husband's great-grandmother and we have family papers that say she was a Marshall, but the debate still continues.

Huffines of Fayette Co., PA

I am researching a Catherine Huffines, born 1811, died 1892, place of birth unknown.

She married William Steele (died 1854). They eventually settled in Fayette Co., PA (in the 1860 census they resided with their dauther Sarah and her husband James A Coffman). They had three children (at least): Sarah, Elizabeth (1842-1914), and Hiram (1850).
I
Can anyone out there help me trace Catherine's origins? I have no further information on her. Thanks.

Ellen (ellenlevy66@yahoo.com)

Hoffheintz/Huffines of Fayette Co., PA

Yes, there are Huffine/Hoffheintz descendants from Pennsylvania, and my husband & Children are some of them!

I am trying trace the ancestors of Catherine Huffines (1811-1883?). She married William Steele and had a number of children in Fayette Co, PA, including Sarah Steele, my husband's g,g,great grandmother.

The 1800 census for Fayette Co., PA, lists both Jost (Joseph) and Georg Hoffheinz. I believe they were the two Hoffheintz brothers who came over after Jacob, Daniel and Adam. I believe Catherine may be descended from Jacob, son of Georg, who came over with him as a child in 1789.

I am looking for any further information or desendants from these two individuals.

Please email me at ellenlevy66@yahoo.com

thank you!!!
