Hi Mary,

Thanks for replying. I have some information on Richard Hughes' parents and some information on Eliza Ann Denby's parents, grandparents and great grandparents. I do have a picture of Richard and Eliza Hughes and the children but not sure who is who. If you want me to send you any of these just ask. Do you have any pictures of Charlotte? Any more information you have would be much appreciated and if you know anything about the children and where they ended up I would love to find out. Look forward to hearing from you again.

I don't know if this is a connection, but there are some similarities. The Ed Hughes I found (mostly listed as Edward, but once as William Edwin) was born in NY in Apr 1852. Don't know about his earlier life, but in 1893, at age 41, he married Winnie (Winifred) Prescott. She was also from NY, but had long been living in Minnesota. They had 7 children between 1883 and 1904 in Minnesota (William Edwin, George, Bethany, Esther, Thomas, Melvin, Gladys). He appears on the 1910 census with them, but not on the 1920 census. His father is always listed as from England on the censuses, but his mother is a mystery. In 1875 (MN) while he still lives with them, she's listed as from England. In 1900, mom is from Scotland, and in 1910 mom is from Ireland. None listed from Wales, though.

I know that after he died one of my great aunts was contacted by his estate as to being of relation, but back then they just thought it was a fluke.

from the Mobile, Alabama Newpaper:

Saturday, May 4, 1912:

• " 'You may keep your snake or give it to a barroom,' said President J. Howard"

Wilson, of the Mobile Light and Railway Company, owners of Monroe Park, when asked yesterday if he would accept a big diamond back rattlesnake proffered by Mr. R.P. Hughes, Jr., of Gainestown, Ala.

"Mr. Hughes wrote The Register Thursday that he had a big diamond back rattlesnake to dispose of, and his offer to the Monroe Park zoo was printed yesterday morning. Mr. Hughes said the snake, which is one of the largest ever seen by residents of Gainestown, would look good in a flower garden conservatory. He thought possibly the manager of the park zoo would be glad to have it.

" 'We don't want anything like that around the park,' said Mr. Wilson."
note- Gainstown is in Clarke County, Alabama

Not my line, just sharing.

Yes, everything you wrote about the Ingraham's checked out with my records only I had a different spelling (Ingram instead of Ingraham). Louisa & Eleanor Strawn's parents are Isaiah Strawn & Susannah Rinehart. Susannah Rinehart's father is John Rinehart. Mary Rinehart's father is Barnet Rinehart. Barnet & John are brothers, so Mary and Susannah are cousins. Hard to explain, I hope that is clear.
Isaiah Inghram Hughes & Sarah Adah (Abbott) Hughes' children are: Arthur A. Hughes, Susan Agnes Hughes, John Rinehart Hughes, Mary Louisa Hughes, Ingram Isaiah Hughes, Louis Dwight Hughes, Maude Hughes, Nathan Hughes & Mabel Hughes. My family all live in Southern California. I hope I answered all of your questions. If you want to give me your email address, then we can share more information.

Thank you for this information Kathy. To be clear...Ellis' father is John Rhinehart Hughes whose mother was Mary Rhinehart and John Rhinehart Hughes married Louisa Strawn whose mother was Susanna Rhinehart? Do you know how his mother and his wife's mother were related?

Being taught to find and record documentation proving the lines, I would love to have copies of the letters as well as copies or locations of documents that you can share.I would be happy to share whatever info that I may have that you would want

I will check out the mentioned census. Did the Ingraham info that I provided make sense to you? I also noticed that my information shows your g grandfather Inghram's father Isaiah as having the middle name Ingram and being born in 1840. This mention of that name would be about 40 yrs before his nephew Dailey married Ida Ingraham.Tis a tangled web they wove, eh?

I do have the children of Susannah G (Hughes) Arrasmith in my records but do not have anything on Isaiah and Sarah Ada (Abbott) Hughes' children. Except, now, your g grandfather Inghram Hughes. At least some members of these families also ended up in WA and ID. Is your family also in the NW? Mine (Bean) is in the Lewiston area.

Thanks again,
Sherrie

Hi Sherrie,
Both Ellis Hughes & Eleanor Hughes are the children of John Rinehart Hughes & Louisa (Strawn) Hughes. Only that John is the child of Mary Rinehart and Richard Hughes; and Richard is the child of Nathaniel Hughes. John Rinehart Hughes & Thomas Rinehart Hughes are brothers. Louisa (Strawn) Hughes & Eleanor (Strawn) Hughes [Thomas's wife] are sisters. I hope that makes sense. One interesting note: Look at Thomas Hughes in the 1856 Census for Franklin, Story Co., Iowa. Living with him are his nephews David (Nathan's son),Ellis & Isaiah (John's sons). Both brothers John & Nathan had died.

Hi Kathy,
So much time has gone by since this post but, just in case you did not figure it out. The James Dailey that I mentioned in my earlier post (son of Robert Dailey and Eleanore Hughes) married an Ida Ingraham. According to Jame's Bio in "The History of North Idaho". It states: "The marriage of Mr. Dailey and Miss Ida, daughter of Talbott and Sarah ( Haynes ) Ingraham, was celebrated on January 1, 1882. They have five children: Blanche, deceased; Ward E., deceased; Robert T., at home; Maud I., and Sarah Odna, at home. Mr. Ingraham was a farmer, born in Ohio on May 6, 1833. His grandmother was Jemimah Birch and his grandfather Ingraham was born in Wales. Mrs. Dailey was born in Knox county, Illinois, on November 23, 1864, and gained her education in the public schools. Mrs. Dailey has brothers and sisters as follows : Warren S., in Pennsylvania ; Eliza J., wife of Bert Trownfelter and living in Lewiston ; Daniel S., deceased."

Sherrie

Hello Cousins,
I thought, that I too am a g g g granddaughter of John and Louisa (Strawn) Hughes but am now confused after finding these posts. My gr grandfather, Willis Bean (of Palouse area and then Latah Co ID) married Laura Jane Hughes, dau of Ellis D Hughes who, I thought, was a son of John and Louisa. Years ago I found internet info that led me believe this and that John was son of Nathaniel and Rebecca(?) Hughes and Louisa was dau of Isaiah and Susannah (Rhinehart)Strawn. Is this correct? If this has been settled, may I know what documentation has been used to prove these lines? Also, could someone please let me know which cemetery near Palouse the Hughes' are burried in?

Gr grandfather Willis' brother, Walter Bean, married Lousia Dailey, dau of Eleanore Hughes who I also believed to be a dau of John and Louisa (Stawn) Hughes. Members of this family are buried in the Freeze Cemetery not far from Palouse. I have visited them and some of my Bean family also buried there. A bio of Lousia's brother James Dailey states his mother was "born in Greene county in 1836, and is now living in Latah county. Her father, John Hughes, was born and died in Greene county, Pennsylvania, and his father was killed there by the Indians in an early age. Our subject's parents removed to Story county, Iowa, in 1864, and four years later went thence to Hamilton county and farmed."

Unfortunately, my early research (many years ago) was either sloppy and did not doccument where some of my info came from or notes were lost in one of my two hard drive crashes. I would love to be able to document and prove my Hughes lines. Do I have the correct lineage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Sherrie
