Sarah was born 15 March 1857 in Mississippi, died on 9 June 1887 in Arkansas - BUT I found her (I think) living with
Harry & Annie Sadler and children in the 1920 censes of
Greensboro Ward 4, Guilford, N.Carolina. Does anyone out there know ANYTHING about Sarah's death and where she was buried.

The census's state he is from North Carolina, some have in their family trees that is is from Ireland but i'm not finding confirmation on either account. Also, his headstone states he is born in 1786 and his age in the censuses support this, but I also see most have 1780. Thanks for responding to my query!

Leigh

I am looking for information re: Ann Hughs. I know very little about her. I believe she was born abt 1820 in Ireland and was married to a Peter Hughes. My theory is she was widowed by 1880 (possibly 1870) and came to this country, having 2 sons already here. She had several children 2 of whom were named Ellen and Henry. I can find her on the 1880 census and Worcester city directories for 1888, 1889 and 1890. I cannot find her on the 1900 census, so I think she may have died by then. I believe she may be my ggreat grandmother and would like more information.
Marie

I have a Morris family in our line. They started in Shelby County IL and by 1850 were in Warren County. That is close to Hancock County. Perhaps there is a connection. Some of them say their parents were born in Indiana. But as you know, that information varies from census to census depending on who talked to the census taker.
I have a Nancy UNKNOWN-MORRIS with children..all born in Indiana. The closest we found to being their parents would be these too. The youngest child known was born in Greene Co., In and these 2 were married in Harrison Co in 1819

Is anyone searching or have info on either of these two? We found our Nancy in the 1850 Hancock Co., Ill census with children. She was born abt 1798 according to that census, place place Ohio (Most kids have put Indiana for both parents, one -the youngest had maintianed having Kentucky and Tennessee for each, sometimes reversed. One had either Ohio or Indiana, so it could be someone esle giving the information.

Thanks In Advance

Thomas and Maggie Hugh(e)s NY to Newfoundland 1871

My great grandfather's (i.e., Thomas William Hughes b. May 19, 1869) parents were Thomas and Maggie Hughs as shown in the 1870 U.S. census. They appear to have been from Ireland. However, my great grandfather's father Thomas dies around 1871 presumably in N.Y., at which time Maggie and her children(return?) to Newfoundland where she later marries a James Higgins (Military Rd.?). Maggie has at least two children by James Higgins, which are my great grandfather's half siblings. One of these half brothers appears to be the relatively famous William J. Higgins.

I calculate that this man is my great great half Uncle. He was quite a scholar and athlete it appears, as he makes his way to the Supreme Court there in Newfoundland.

I am looking for any one that might be connected to this line via Maggie or Thomas, as I am still trying to connect Maggie and Thomas to the old country, so that I might soon visit a village where they came from.

Thanks for any help you might provide. My great grandfather, Maggie's son, later marries Mary Anne Greene of St. John's and I am still looking for her parents origins in Newfoundland (see other Greene/Blanche post in Newfoundland - St. John's thread).

Thanks

-=Michael

No, I haven't anything on them.
But, here is a thought:
Some of My Cupps went to Texas. Then Tennessee, Kentucky.
I am slightly disappointed now, I thought we were on the right track,(and still think that maybe we are), with the two families, Cupps, and Hughes!
And I still think that the connection is there.
I have the following about Texas:
This is my G-Uncle:
Cupp, Grady
Age: 26 Year: 1930 Birthplace: Texas
Roll: T626_733 Race: White
Page: 11A State: Kentucky
ED: 11 County: Bell Township: District 4 Relationship: Head

My point is this. If these are the same {hughes} yours and mine. Then in most cases, where families that inter marrry(not a word) they would usually move across country together I have found..just a thought!

He died in 1894 in NY and she remarried in 1897 to Charles Wright (Write). In 1910 her brother Henry Hughs lived with her..he is listed as widowed and is 44 years old putting his birth year as 1866. Both Jessie and Henry came from England. I am unable to find any information on their England roots or ship passages. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.
I am ordering their death certificates so hopefully that will tell me a little more about them. If I find out where they lived in England I will let you know. Thanks for the offer of help. Much appreciated.

If Jessie was born in 1868 she would have been 12 years old when she went to USA in 1880 - so I think it's a given that she married there. You will also need to give a little more info as to where they might have been born - a County at least, only then could there be a chance of finding a listing for the family on the 1871 census. Get this and will be happy to look for you.
Pauline

I am looking for information on my GGgrandmother/GGgrandfather. My gggrandmothers maiden name was Jessie Hughs. She had a brother named Henry. She immigrated to the US in 1880. She married my GGgrandfather, Henry Brooker. I don't know if they married in the US or in England. Henry was born in England in 1862 and Jessie was born in 1868. I have very little information on Jessie and NO information on Henry. They are both buried in Conewango, NY. I would appreciate any information anyone might have. Thank you.
