Sandy- do you know where/who might have a copy of the page from Elizabeth's Bible that lists Thomas C Humber as her grandson??

Someone found, and is sending me a copy of, a marriage bond that lists Martha Humber as mother to Harriet Humber. Harriet married Leander T Ellis and they had many kids including Hannah Ellis (m. John W Grant- my 3ggparents) and 2 sons Thomas Cole Ellis and Albert Ellis.

I have a biography from the 2 brothers and Thomas C Ellis lists Thomas C Humber as his uncle!! It mentions that Thomas Humber was a mayor of Richmond KY

I am so close...
Christie

Hi Christie,

I am also a descendant of Charles C. Humber, but from his Alabama marriage. I've decided he must have been a bit of a rascal. I've always understood that Harriet was Charles' first wife in Goochland Co., VA. As far as I know, no one has been able to find a divorce record. The story goes that Charles decided to come to AL to visit his brother, John Pleasant and brought along his son, Thomas Cole. They went throught Crab Orchard, KY where for some unknown reason, Thomas was left behind. Charles comes on to AL and in 1818 he married Lettice Hammon. My ggg grandmother who was Charles' wife too, was called "Susan". We've not been able to prove that Lettice and Susan were the same woman. Some believe that Lettice died shortly after their marriage and Charles married Susan who was supposedly an Indian, most likely Cherokee. Charles and Susan had quite a few children, but by 1850, Charles is out of the picture and Susan is listed as head of household. The family story about Charles disappearance is that he left one day on his way to New Orleans with his prize fighting rooster under his arm and he never returned or was heard from again. If I remember right, Harriet turns up later living in the midwest with son, Newmaris. Thoms Cole Humber is listed as the son of Charles C. Humber in his grandmother, Elizabeth C. Humber's bible. I'm sure others have looked also, but did you check VA records for a divorce record? I don't know if I've been any help to you, but if I have something that might help I'll be glad to send it to you.

Sandy
Hi Sandy-
I was looking for Bev Whittington, she had info on another site as well with info about the Humber family. The email didn't work then I found her here... was hoping she might still be around :)

Any help would be great!!! I am related to Harriet Humber, Thomas Cole Humber's sister. I am trying to find proof that Charles Christian Humber and Martha Henley (Harriet & Thomas' parents) were married.

I am applying to the daughters of the American Revolution, Charles' grandfathers Charles Christian & John Humber were Am Revolution patriots. There is a land transaction in VA:
Martha Henley is named as Charles C. Humber's wife in an indenture of 29 Oct 1807 by which Charles sold to Charles F. Bales "one certain tract or parcel of land ... which was by Mr. John Humber given to his son Charles containing one hundred & fifty acres ..." The warrant was signed by both Charles C. Humber and Martha H. Humber. That document was followed by another that charged three justices of the peace to interview Martha Henley Humber privately without her husband being present or threatening her to determine if she voluntarily agreed to the sale of the land. It was so determined, reported to the court, and the deed of sale was ordered recorded.

The woman who had it on her site can't find the info of where she got it. She said maybe Goochland county, but I am having no luck finding it. Since Charles took off for Alabama and got remarried, you would think there would be a divorce recording KY, but no.

So... I am stuck!! Do you have any info on the line??
Thanks so much!!
Christie

I don't know much about your branch from Robert Hammon down. Do you know anything about Robert Hammon's mother?

I've been working on my ancestry, but am stuck on the "Humber" side.

The farthest I can trace back is to "John Henry Humber" who died in 1905. He married Mary Ann Appel (born 2/26/1877, died 1916). They had three children, John Henry Humber JR (born 8/4/1897, died 9/1965, married Mary Fischer, no known children), Clarence George Humber (born 7/25/1989, died 11/8/1948, married twice Anna May Wieland (4 children) and Viola Louise Reedern (6 children, my lineage)), and Clarence's twin who died during or shortly after birth. Most of the Humbers I am aware of are from Pennsylvania with recent branches moving to Kansas and Tennessee.

If anyone can shed some insight, I would greatly appreciate it. My email is BES0804@gmail.com

Pervilla's real name was Panola--named after the county where she was born(I think). She was married briefly to Algernon Haynes. They had no kids. Her maiden name was Shepherd. She was David's first wife. He was a school teacher at the time. After Pervilla died he placed his son with his brother Willis and his daughters with two of his sisters and moved to Central Texas, where he worked for the Texas and Pacific RR and married Josephine Fry. The were founding parents of Baird, Texas where David died. They had 3 or 4 kids. In one of the picture sites for genealogy there is a picture of David who looks to be in his 40's.
Good luck with finding more.

I am related to David Humber Richardson. He was my gg grandfather. His son Thomas Franklin was my ggrandfather. He had younger twin sisters Nannie and Fannie. By 1880 Frank was living with an Uncle Willis and his wife. The mother's name was either Permilla or Pervilla nee Shepherd who had been married once before to a Mr. Harris. By 1880, the father David was in Fort Worth working for the railroad. I am guessing the mother died. I don't know what happened to Fannie. David remarried and had several more children. Hope this helps. If you find any other information I would love to hear about it.

I found Nannie Richardson in a 1880 census in Precint 1, District 47, Nacogdoches, Texas. Mention Nannie as a niece. I looked and found out Martha A. Burrows (maybe incorrect)was born in Alabama like a few Richardson's were born in that state like David Humber Richardson. I beleive David is Nannie's father. The mother is mostly wrong because I can't find her.

Robert H. Humber of Ala. who was maried to Cynthia Jane Humber of Tenn. was born in 1821 according to the 1860 census. His son, Robert H. Humber, was born in 1846 according to his grave stone at Friendship Cemetery in Miss. and in 1847 according to the 1860 census. Robert H. Humber Sr. had a son named Lewis Porter Hunber who is the father of Jessie Lee Humber who is my great great grandmother, making Robert Humber Sr. my great great great great grandfather. I am currently compiling family information as well and would love to know more about the parents and immediate family of Robert Humber Sr. Also, according to my civil war veteran records, both Robert Humber's had the same middle name and are listed as Jr. and Sr. and suppose to both be buried in Friendship Cemetery.

Robert C.
? burial location of John P (II) Humber, spouse of Louisa Jane Gilchrist ?

John P (II) Humber b Oct 22, 1822, d March 13, 1877 is my GG Grandfather. He married Louisa Jane Gilchrist, and she is buried near their son David Gilchrist Humber in Albany, Texas.

I have a letter written in 1941 and signed by David Gilchrist Humber about David's remembrances of his life. David states the John P Humber family lived on the Grimes farm near Nacogdoches, Texas in 1870, and in 1872 they moved to where the Humber family bought land. He states his father, John P Humber, died in 1877, leaving David the burden of caring for a widow mother and 3 dependant children.

I have not found John P (II) Humber listed within the Old North Church Cemetery listings, nor other local cemetery listings. David was a member of Old North Church, and David's sister Mary Jane (Mollie) Humber married P R Grimes from the area in 1877, and raised their family.

Does anyone know where John P (II)Humber was buried,,,or where this farm might have been located? I will be glad to share data. Jimbo crevale@swbell.net or alternate hvgrn email address

Dear Cathy Smith, I'm going to try and e-mail you again because maybe you didn't get my first one. Your message board caught my eye because my grandmother on my father's side was a Humber. Born in Bloomer, WI in 1890. Her name was Laura Barbara Humber. But the most interesting thing is that she always told me that her parents John Humber and Margaret Gick came from Byon, Germany. I remember looking up Byon when I was In Germany (my husband was in the service, stationed in Frankfurt.) But no one seemed to remember any town, or city called Byon. This just may be a conincidence but when you mentioned Byon I knew I had to write. Carolynn Stone

I knew that there were descendants in Fayette Co., AL. A couple of years ago, some of those descendants attended our Jefferson Co. Humber reunion. It was nice to meet them.
Have you visited the Humber website and checked to see if your descendants of Robert Hammon Humber are listed there?

Sandy

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/rw/surnames.humber...
