My great-great grandfather was John Humerickhouse who married Christine Swoveland. Their daughter was Sarah Viola H., born 1-20-1870 in Van Wert, Ohio. She died in 1961. I don't have any later info. Do you? Cyndy dpcyn@fwi.com

Hi Summer,
All of my Humerickhouse information is mainly from Indiana and Ohio. The family migrated from Germany. So far, I'm not aware of family members living in Modesto. But, all the Humerickhouses are bound to link up somehow. If you are interested in my information from the Indiana and Ohio areas, e-mail me at inphyllis@aol.com.

Hello again, I actually live in South Florida. But most of my family lives in Kansas. All of the Humerickhouse's I know mostly live in Kansas except for my Dad and I. I am interested in knowing about my ancestery and what my name means. I heard that it was shortened from Humerickhousen. One letter, I don't really understand but maybe there was a reason behind it. But I am just really interested in knowing about my name. Thanks for your time and please enlighten me with your knowledge of my Family name, Humerickhouse. Thanks again, Summer Dawn Humerickhouse

Humerickhouse Name

Hi Summer,

I've learned that my family came to the US from Germany in 1817. Their name in Germany was HOMRIGHAUSEN; they changed it to HUMERICKHOUSE after coming to the US. I've seen several versions of the name. I'm guessing that each branch of the family may have come up with their own spelling to Americanize the name. This may have been by choice. Or, it may have been from inability to read write. Anyway, it is likely they all link up together somehow.

At this point, I don't know what the name itself means. Maybe that informaton will surface later. If you find out, please let me know. It was nice to hear from you again. Good luck with your search. By the way, I'm now in South Florida also.

To Summer, I'm also looking... for a comprehensive family tree.

Summer Humerickhouse:

My name is David Humerickhouse. I live in Visalia, 2 hrs. to the south of you. As you live in Modesto, it must have been your grandfather I met and spoke with about 10 years ago. He was a school teacher, as I recall. I've often wondered about my surname also. Surely someone has put together a compresive listing of this family tree. It is just too unique. If you or anyone else has some information on our tree, please take a moment to contact me. My grandfather was Harold E. Humerickhouse of Ottawa, Kansas

To Summer, also a "Hummer"

I live in Sacramento and I am brother of David S. whom also contacted you. I believe my dad spoke with your (Father,Grandfather?) years ago by phone attempting to trace the family name. I am of the uninformed opinion that all the Humerickhouses' are related no matter how the name has been changed since arrival to the colonies in the mid to later 1700's. There is a new Humerickhouse family that lives in Roseville. They moved from Minnesota but I believe originate in either Indiana or Ohio. Ohio is where the first Humerickhouses' moved west from Pennslyvania. I first found your name in a general Humerickhouse search on the internet. You were on some stats' for a skiing competition! Are you still skiing competitively? I'll keep you up to date if I find anything interesting out about the Humerickhouses'. Good Luck!!! Harold Humerickhouse
