Did Levi Humphries son John marry Harriet Crew in 1804 in Cliffe Pypard - Wiltshire? I am hoping to find a grandfather for Margaret Humphries b. 1807 in Cliffe Pypard (John & Harriet's daughter). She married (1) Thomas Wallis and (2) George Henly of Wootton bassett - Wiltshire.

Hi, The Humphries in my tree all originate from Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire, England. I have not yet found a John who has emigrated to America but I have got a George Humphries who emigrated around1893, but I have been unable to find him on any passenger lists, but have located him on the 1900,1910 & 1920 USA Census living in Sierra Madre, Pasidina, California.

as I was driving into Wootton Bassett today I had a thought....quite a rare occurance! I drove past Broad Town Cars which used to be an old chapel, there were also two more small chapels in Broad Town around the time of his baptism so maybe he was baptised in one of these. I don't know if the records still exist for them but I am guessing a visit to Chippenham would be your best bet.

I am having similar problems as you with finding my family....hopefully they will all turn up somewhere.

Mandy.

Thanks for your help, I've got the microfiche for Cliffe Pypard/Broad Hinton baptisms and also the book with Wootton Bassett baptisms and burials. There's a good chance that Thomas is not the father as this name does not appear anywhere else in the Humphris tree, but John does. I'll keep searching and hopefully one day will find Levi's baptism.

Hi Alison,
The burial record says Levi was aged 77 from Broad Town, which didn't have a church at that time so Broad Town baptisms were carried out at Clyffe Pypard, Broad Hinton and sometimes Wootton Bassett. All baptisms I managed to find around the time Levi should be born were for children of John & Ann, John & Sarah or Thomas & Sarah.....probably not much help.
Levi Humphris - Help required

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can help me as I have become stuck on my Humphris line of the family. I have managed to get back to a Levi Humphris who was born approx 1758 in Wiltshire, UK (possibly Broad Town or Clyffe Pypard). I have been unable to find details of his baptism and cannot therefore trace who his parents are. Levi married a Margaret Iles in Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire on 1/5/1780 and he died 15/7/1835 and is buried in Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire. Any help would be appreciated as I have been stuck on this for the last 3 years - this is my last resort. Thanks

This is my Humphries family which I have been researching for years. However I can't find a Sarah Humphries married to John Pilkinton but have a M. Andrew Pilkinton married to a Bettie Humphries but not until the mid to late 1800's. My genealogy is quite long but maybe I can give you some information that would pertain to your familyl.

I have John Pilkinton married to a Sarah Humphries. He was born in 1735 and died in 1799. No other info on Sarah. Below is a will I ran across and was wondering if anyone has any further info on these Humphris?

"Charles HUMPHRIS of Brunswick Co to John PILKINTON
of Nancemond Co. Wit: Robert CAMPBELL, Richard
PILKINTON, Mary CAMPBELL. Proved 22 May 1753. Probate
indicates that Mary the wife of said Charles relinquished
her right of dower.
