Have since found that George's wife was Mary Ann Otis (from her daughter's marriage certificate). Still trying to trace the husband of her daughter Cornelia "Kitty" surname Barnes ... 3 children = George Barnes 1875, Elizabeth Barnes 1877 (briefly married Robert Blair abt 1898) and Albert Barnes 1882, all born in/around Buffalo.

Frances,
It seems that eight years have passed since the last correspondance on
Grace Hunting. I don't believe I read your last reply to my query about her. A very belated thanks for the information. I stopped searching and just recently returned to looking for the puzzle pieces. I believe I have a typo in my first inquiry, my father's mother was Grace Hunting. She married my grandfather Clyde Harry Kimball in or around 1904 in Missouri. Are we speaking about the same person? I think I said she was my great grandmother and really she is my grandmother. Sorry about that, thanks for the reply and hope it won't be 8 years before we e-mail again. Hope you are well.

Wow!!! Thanks for the post Robert! I've been looking for a living Hunting relative for many years. The info you provided makes it clear we're related. My info shows that your father, W.S. Hunting, was William Stanley Hunting, born in 1915 in Bellingham, WA, and died in Contra Costa, CA in 1978 (correct?)

Anyhow, those stories of my grandfather, Lloyd Elmo Hunting, are absolutely priceless. His first daughter, my Mother, Mary Beth (Hunting) Kamp, was only two when he died in a plane crash in Pennsylvania. She doesn't have too many stories of him, and I know she will get a big kick out of these that you've passed along. She is getting ready to celebrate her 80th birthday this fall. I know she would love to re-connect with the Hunting side. Part of me wants to make it a huge surprise for her 80th, the other part of me doesn't want to wait another day. Hmm.

If possible, I would love to get more genealogy info about the Hunting side post 1930. Plese send me an email directly if you have some more info to share -- jimkamp@yahoo.com. I will reach out as well to your email.

Still can't believe it ...

My father, W.S. Hunting, was born to E. & V. (Campbell) Hunting in March, 1915 in Bellingham, WA. E. Hunting was from Marshalltown, IA and V. Campbell was from Missouri or Kansas.

One of my father's uncles was Elmo, a pilot in the Army Air Corps. The following stories I remember:

He was somehow involved in the bombing of the German battleships, serving under General Billy Mitchell.

He got busted for practicing "strafing" in Texas (diving and buzzing cars on the road) and one of the cars contained a very irate colonel.

My father's family moved to San Francisco in 1925; for a period, Elmo was stationed at Chrissie Field in the Presidio. He would fly over my father's neighborhood in his Boeing Scout and drop little parachutes to the gang. Sometimes the messages would ask, What time should he come over for dinner?

Mrs. Laura Hunting Braden Obit - 1898

The Daily Review, Decatur IL, 22 Feb 1898, pg. 8

Mrs. Laura A. Braden died suddenly at her home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. She lived on the old home farm, three miles north and three-fourths of a mile west of the city. She has lived alone since her husband, John Y. Braden, died two years ago. Monday afternoon she was not feeling well so she called the hired man, Sam Campbell, and sent him to her son's house, a mile an a half away, to get her some quinine. He thought that the old lady was needing some medicine pretty badly, so he hurried as much as he could . He says that he was not gone more than twenty minutes. When he returned he found Mrs. Braden dead in her chair.

Mrs. Braden's maiden name was Miss Laura A. Hunting. She was born in Vermont in 1819. She was married to John Y. Braden Jan. 25, 1840. Nine children were born. Three of them are dead. The six who survive are J.E., J.O., T.J., and G. A Braden, Mrs. Flora A. Bear of Bearsdale and Mrs. Cora A Dillehunt of North Church street in this city. Mrs. Braden was a member of the Edward street Christian church. The funeral announcements will be made later.

Macon County Old Settlers Association obituaries
not related - Pam

Re: Hunting sisters, Edith and Josephine, Chicago

Although, the 1900 Census states that Edith and Josephine are daughters of Fred P. and Catherine "Kittie" Head HUNTING, I believe they are really children of Fred P. HUNTING's brother Ben J. HUNTING and his wife, Mary.

On the 1880 Census for Jefferson, Cook co., IL, one finds Fred and Kittie HUNTING married but childless. Fred P. is listed as a real estate agent.

On the 1880 Census for Lockport, NY, one finds Ben J. and Mary HUNTING with children Richard,4, and Edith, 2. Ben J. is listed as a District Attorney.

On the 1910 Census for Chicago, IL, one finds Richard, 32, and wife Florence, 19, HUNTING, living with his sisters, Edith, 29, and Josephine, 27. Richard and Florence are listed as having one child living but it is not enumerated with this family group. Richard is listed as a salesman/department store and Edith is listed as a school teacher.

Fred P. and Ben J. were offspring of Moses and Josephine HUNTING of Lockport, NY. They also had a sister Cornelia as listed on the 1870 NY Census.

Hope this helps. Pass the assistance forward.
I am not related to these persons.
Looking for leads to Edith and Josephine Hunting, daughters of Fred P. Hunting and Catherine Head. Edith was born Dec. 1878 in New York and Josephine was born March 1881 in New York. The family is last found in the 1900 census living in Chicago. Both sisters are single. I searched the online Illinois databases for deaths and marriages but turned up nothing. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Hi Barbara,

I stumbled upon your post on the Hunting board and you mention having a copy of the Hunting Family in America. If you don't mind doing a quick lookup, I am trying to track down descendants of Fred P. Hunting, born 1850 in New York, and his wife Catherine Head, born 1853 in New York. I last found them in the 1900 census living in Chicago with daughters Edith, born, 1878, and Josephine, born 1881. Thanks for your help.

Steve
Joe, thank you for your response to my query concerning Grace Hunting. I had seen the Grace you listed in other info. My grandmother was Grace Hunting and I believe she lived in Texas. My father was born in New Mexico in 1909, the youngest of three children. Grace married Clyde Harry Kimball, Jr. and had a sister named Cora. She died in the flu pandemic of 1918 (this may not be true). I do not have any other info on Grace. I don't know who here father or mother were or really where they lived. Any helpl would be appreciated. Thanks Judith Kimball Butler

Elizabeth Hunting is the daughter of Elder John Hunting and Hester Seaborn his wife. John was the immigrant. You can find detailed information on the family, including Elizabeth, in an article in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 78 No. 2, June 1990 by Robert Charles Anderson (p. 85-97).

The entry for Elizabeth reads:
"Elizabeth Hunting, baptized at Oakley [Suffolk, England], 4 May 1634; married John Peck (son of Joseph) by 1657. She was buried at Rehoboth, Massachusetts, 9 December 1667. Three of her four children died in infancy."

You can find more information on John Hunting at my Hunting web site http://www.cs.cornell.edu/dean/hunting.htm

Hi:
These are also my relatives. Mitchell and Mary are my GGgrandparents. There is a refernce to an Olie Hickok born on Nov. 26th, as well as a Charlie, and Loyd Hickok in my a book of my grandmothers.I had no idea who these people were, this helps me put some things together. Unfortunatly, I am just starting to peice this information together and do not have anything more than that. Just thought I would make contact, as it looks like we are related. My grandmother was Lucy Hunting Montgomery. Her father was John Franklin Hunting, his parents were Mitchel and Mary.
I see that you posted this 2 years ago, I hope this finds you.
Kris Montgomery

I believe I may have be researching the same Hunting family. My ggrandfather was Curtis Hunting, born in Wisconsin in 1874. His parents were Andrew J. and Mary J. both born in NY. (found on 1880 Oshkosh WI census). My grandmother Millie Hunting Carey was Curtis's daughter from his first wife. She died and he remarried was my grandmother was quite young. Any info appreciated!

Hello,
My wife is a great, great granddaughter of Mary Jane Casson Hunting and her cousin is Betsy K. who corresponded with you in the past. We are trying to carry on Betsy's work and interested in corresponding with other Casson relatives. We have only a few facts about Mary Jane's parents and are interested in more information and pictures if possible.
Thank you very much!
Dan Judd
New Brighton, MN
dpjudd@aol.com
