I am looking for connections to James Charles HUNTLEY, married (possibly)to Ruth Mary HICKMAN some time after 1911 and before 1923. Ruth had one son James Alfred HICKMAN(my grandfather), born 20 Dec 1908, who was later "adopted" by James Charles HUNTLEY.

Family lived in London, particularly the Fulham area. James Charles died in Fulham 1952; James Alfred died in Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal in 1956; Ruth Mary Huntley died in Fulham in 1938.

I would be grateful if anyone can find a link, as I can find no record on Census, birth or marriage.

I recently came into possesion of an "Abstract of Title" for the land owned by Jeremiah Huntley near Roseburg Oregon. The information in this book was compiled for legal issues concerning the land Jeremiah owned at the time of his death. The information includes an abstact of Jeremiah's will with names of some of his children, legal action taken against his heirs, and subsequent sale of the land to other parties. Dates in this book are for the legal proceedings concerning the land Jeremiah owned. I am willing to share this information.
Sheri

My great-great-grandfather was David L. Huntley born in February of 1871 (i believe in S. Dakota) I am pretty sure he had a brother named George. There could be a connection here. I realize this post is nearly a decade old but I figured I'd give it a shot because I've been at a dead-end for a while.

If you have any info. on the David Huntley that you're related to so I could compare notes that would be wonderful. My David married Jessie Simmonds.

Thanks.

John

Hello Nadine,

You are most kind, thank you. Here are the answers to your questions. If you'd like, I can post the census transcriptions for you. I hope you're not going to a lot of trouble for me.

I am sorry, I do not have a tree on ancestry.

My grandfather's name was Henry Huntley (aka Harry) b. 1868 in Liverpool; d. 1951 in Camden, New Jersey, USA

Frederick Cyprus Huntley's mother was Margaret Raby. She was married prior to marrying Thomas E.B. Huntley. We believe Raby was her name by her first marriage as she has 2 known children named Raby. Elizabeth was indeed already dead.

I have census records for Thomas E.B. Huntley & family from 1861 through 1911. For Frederick I have him residing with his parents 1881 through 1901 & then with a wife & family in 1911. His wife's name was Mabel Ann Hale born abt. 1880. Frederick lists his occupation as electrical wireman on the railway. Frederick & Mabel have 3 children: Frederick Thomas age 5; Sydney age 3; Mabel age 1. Children all born W. Derby, Lancashire. Thomas E.B. Huntley (his father) also resides with them. I also found their marriage on England Free BMD: Dec. Quarter 1904 (Oct- Dec); District: Toxteth Park; Volume 8b; page 393.

If you'd like the census records I'd be happy to send them. BTW, my e-mail is photogskh at aol dot com (written the normal format).

Sincerely,
Sally Huntley

Hi Nadina,

Thank you so much for your kind offer. My GG-grandparents were Thomas Edmond Boyce Huntley (1811-1879) & Emma Bennett (abt 1821-1889). Thomas was b. in Limehouse, Stepney, London, England. I have a copy of both his death certificate & marriage license. I also have Emma's death certificate. My G-grandparents were Thomas Edmond Boyce Huntley,II (1840-1911); & Elizabeth Brunker (1838-1874); have their marriage license & her death certificate. They had 6 children, 1 of whom died as a small child.

I would like to connect with the descendants of the relatives my grandfather left behind in England. At the time my grandfather came to the US, he was only 13 & supposedly stowed away on a ship (he is not on any ship passenger list). He arrived in Philadelphia, PA (Pennsylvania) in 1881 sometime after the UK census was taken. They lived in Liverpool, Lancashire at that time. Male siblings who remained in England were Thomas Edmond Boyce Huntley, III (1861-1925) who was a pub keeper in Liverpool. He managed a pub called "The Eagle" in the Scotland Road area of Liverpool. Also a brother Frederick Cyprus Huntley (1878-????). He also left a few sisters in England.

Any suggestions are gladly welcomed.

I do have an Ancestry subscription with access to UK census records.

Sincerly,
Sally Huntley

Thanks for the info on Fred, it is nice to tie off the family tree with the sibling information.
Hello Huntleys,

I'm trying to find any information on my GG Grandfather, Gilbert Huntley (b.~1858). His father is noted as coming from "English Canada," and I've found a record for a David and Pheba Huntley, with a son, Gilbert, in 1861, but this is in Quebec.

Gilbert came to the US around 1884, and Married Cecil LNU, and they settled in WI.

I've seen so many wonderful connections between Huntleys all over the US, but I am having trouble connecting these individuals. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Best,
Anna Huntley

In 'First Families of America, the Compendium of American Genealogy' by Frederick Virkus, the info was given: John Huntley, d 1676, from England....'

I have Virgil Huntley's books which do not give place and date of birth or parentage.

There are some on familysearch.org who give a birthdate of April 15, 1630 in Boston- don't think that this is correct. Meredith Colket has John immigrating in 1640. I have found a list of ships that sailed from England in 1640, some have passenger lists, others do not.

Has anyone found any new information about John regarding his birth other than what we know from Virgil's and other's books of his time in MA and CT? Thanks
I too, have no info on your Albert Charles. :( One thing you might want to consider is ... the original Huntley was Huntly (Scotland) Most came to the US and Canada and added an 'e' as there were problems being of Scottish decent during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. This is where I trace my gg grandfather to Lyme Ct. U.S.A. Good-luck in your search ... always good to know of another Huntley :)

Oh my goodness - this is absolutely fascinating! I can't tell you how thankful I am to you for posting this information. I've been searching and searching for Lester Wells Huntley's death records in California, as his son Lester Raymond Huntley had written that he died in Nov 1946 in Los Angeles on the back of a photograph (which I'd be happy to share with you). I have no idea why he would have made this mistake... Very strange indeed. And yes, it's interesting to learn that Lester W.'s death record reports he was divorced from Eva L, and makes no reference to the illusive Mary A... I'm not entirely surprized, as it would appear that there was something fishy going on here - 'Eva L. Huntley' (nee Eva L. Frank) is listed as widowed in the 1930 US Census - she was living in Whitman, Mass. with a son (Perley E. Jackson) from her 1st marriage (to Alva S. Jackson) which resulted in a divorce). Meanwhile, as I mentioned before, in the same 1930 US Census, on the other side of the continent, we find Lester listed as married to Mary A in San Diego, CA... I have no idea if these two were actually married (I suspect they were not, but it's possible). It's all very interesting, to say the least! In any event, I can't wait to connect with you and share more information. Thanks again!!

Please accept my apologies for this delayed response - I was away until just yesterday. I can't tell you how delighted I am to have received your reply, and, as you might imagine, I would be most eager to share stories. The facts you list here correspond exactly with mine. The very day I posted to this list I unearthed the death record for Jennie (Jennie McDonald, Lester Wells Huntley's 2nd wife) that indeed suggested strange circumstances regarding her death. Have you seen this record? I imagine you probably have, but if not let me know & I'll send it to you. I was unaware that that there was any mystery regarding Jennie's death and would very much appreciate any stories you might be able to share. It may also interest you to know that there are also questionable circumstances surrounding Catherine Winnefred Tighe's death. These details, along with several other colorful stories, were described to me by my grandmother, who was the daughter of Lester Raymond Huntley (2nd son of Lester Wells Huntley & Catherine Winnefred Tighe). It may also interest you to know that my grandmother was extremely close with Daniel A. Huntley, the eldest son born to Lester Wells Huntley & his second wife (Jennie McDonald). In fact, my grandmother reportedly inherited all of Dan's possessions when he died, including a lovely portrait he painted (he appears to have been quite the gifted artist), which to this very day hangs in my grand parents' living room. Oh - I can't tell you how excited I am to exchange information & learn more!! Until soon!!

This second wife (Jennie) also had three boys then died under questionable circumstances. Lester married for a third time but they were living apart some years later. She was born in North Bridgewater, MA, to John Tighe (1835-1914) & Mary Cribben (1826-1914), both parents b. in Ireland. She m. 1890 in Stoughton, MA to Lester Wells Huntley (1867-1946). Catherine W. & Lester W. Huntley had at least three children: Wilford Wells (1891-abt1923), Lester Raymond (1893-1976), & John Tighe (1895-?). She died in Brockton, MA, at the age of 29. There are lots of stories and questions surrounding her death.
Lester Wells Huntley, East Machias, ME > Brockton, Mass > California

Hello, I'm searching for information regarding the families surrounding Lester Wells Huntley, b. 1867 in East Machias, Washington co., Maine; d. 1946 in California (either San Diego or Los Angeles). Lester W. was a barber; his parents were John H. Huntley (1842-bef1900)& Angelica H. Huntley (1845-bef1920). Please note that Lester W.'s parents did in fact share the same surname. Lester married at least 3-4 times. 1st m. 1890, Stoughton, MA, to Catherine Winnefred Tighe (1869-1898). 2nd m. 1901 in Brockton, MA, to Jennie McDonald (1872-1907). 3rd m. 1910 in Brockton, MA to Eva L. Frank (1869-aft1930). 4th m. between 1921-1930 in either MA or CA to Mary A. -- surname unknown (1893-?). It is unknown if the couple actually married or not, but they were listed as married in 1930 US Census for San Diego. Lester W. had children from each of the first two marriages. It is unknown if he had any children born of his last two marriages. Lester W. supposedly died in Los Angeles, CA, but I have yet to find him listed in the California death index. If there are any relatives out there, I would love to share and exchange information. There are LOTS of very interesting stories surrounding Lester W., some of which may or may not be true - but it would be wonderful to learn more. Thanks in advance for your interest.

Re: Harold Gordon Huntley and John Gordon Huntley, UK

Hi Karyn,
I have just seen your query from a couple of years ago and I can tell you that Harold and Annie had a daughter Amy Alma Huntly who married Augustus John Skehan in 1914 in St. Kilda West, Victoria. They had a son Harold Augustus Skehan born in 1915. Unfortunately Amy died about 10 days after giving birth. I have not yet found what became of her son Harold but her husband Augustus went on to marry 2 more times. He was a Master Mariner and was in the Navy and fought in both World Wars. He died in 1951. Do you know anything of Harold Augustus Skehan? Hope this information is of some use
Regards
Bob
