Naomi HURL Tremba 1923-2011 b. Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

HUBBARD – There will be services at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard for Naomi M. Tremba, 87, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.

Naomi was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Duquesne, Pa., a daughter of Michael and Eliza Cadwallader Hurl.

She came to Hubbard, Ohio (Mahoning County) in 1938 and was a 1941 graduate of Hubbard High School.

She was a devoted homemaker who loved cooking and baking and was an expert at each.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, member of the Hannah Circle and served many hours in the church kitchen.

She was a member of Liberty Senior Citizens and served as its trip coordinator, a charter member of Hubbard Historical Society, former member of Hubbard Fortnightly IV and loved playing cards every Thursday at Hubbard Municipal Building.

Her husband, John David Tremba, whom she married July 8, 1950, and spent over 60 years of marriage together, passed away Oct. 17, 2010.

She is survived by her daughters, Melanie (Robert) LaPaze, Lisa (William) Tucciarone, both of Hubbard, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also leaves her brother, James Hurl of Hubbard, Ohio; her sisters, Betty Dole of Ventura, California, Janice Anderson of W. Lafayette, Indiana and Lois Doughton of Liberty.

Besides her parents and her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Hurl; and sisters, Doris Hudavoni and Ruth Dowd.

There will be calling hours on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard.

Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, 22 Westview Ave., Hubbard, OH 44425 or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.

Karen Jean is married and living in England. She has one son: Michael. James Mattsson is married and living in Ottawa. I have one son: Matthew James Mattsson. Matthew has one son: Justin Mattsson Bradley.

Hi Vincent,
Do you have a record of John's (born 1849) parents and/or siblings? I have a record of people born around the same time but no John, and I wonder if they might be cousins.
Could I email you directly the family tree I have so far see if you might be able to add, or edit, anything?

This is exciting Vincent. I'll check my family history files this weekend and see if I have those names - maybe this is the missing link (lol). Perhaps our greatgrandfathers were brothers? or cousins? Enjoy your weekend and I'll be in touch next week.

I am a Hurl and still Live in the Magherafelt area.My father was Michael Hurl,My grand father was Patrick Hurl who was a son of Thomas Hurl.Thomas was a son of John Hurl who was born in 1849 and died 23 march 1923.

Hello there,
I only have a Robert Henry Hurl born 1883 Magherafelt who married Emily Corbett= he was the son of William Hurl and Mary Bell who in turn was the son of William Hurl and Mary Waterson.

I am researching the Kenny family of Ballymena, Co. Antrim. I have A Martha Kenny who married Robert James Hurl of Magherafelt. Martha died in Cuilkeen, Ballymena, Nov. 12, 1919. I don't know when they were born or when he died. I'm getting the info off a picture of a gravestone my friend took. His mother was Martha Hurl Kenny. Robert must be related to the other Hurls in the above posts. Has anyone heard of him? We don't know much because my friend was given up for adoption by Martha as a baby in 1938. Thanks, Michele

I may tie into this family Hurl from Magherafelt. My ancestor Martha Matilda Hurl came form Magherafelt. On her death certificate issued in Pennsylvania, her parents are listed as William John Hurl and Ann Quigley. Her sister, Margaret married James Watterson.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I think that Hugh was my great great grandfather's (George born 1845 Magherafelt) brother their parents were William Hurl born Carraloan a village in the parish of Magherafelt in about 1820 and his wife Mary Ann Watterson/Waterson.
William's brother John born about 1811 married Nancy Quigley in about 1832.
John also had a son William but he was born in 1836 and I don't think that there were many families of Hurl living in the village.

I have been researching the Hurls from Magherafelt- the earliest I have is siblings John about 1811,Mary 1814 William born about 1820,John marries Nancy Quigley and they have daughters Mary Jane, Margaret and Ann and Sons William John 1836 and Samuel 1843.
I am related through brother William 1820 who married Mary Ann Watterson the children I have discovered so far are Hugh 1840, George 1845- (my great, great grandfather,) I think there may have been another brother Thomas and a daughter Margaret.
William appears on the census in Glasgow in 1851 lodging with his sister Mary who had married a William Bell.His son George married and lived in Glasgow as did his daughter Margaret.
George and his wife return to Ireland for the birth of their third son Daniel in 1873.
Sometime between 1873 and the 1881 census when his widow and 3 sons are back in Glasgow George dies- I cannot trace any certificate and would welcome info.

Hi,

My grandmother is a Hurl. Her grandfather, George Hurl was believed to have come from Magherafelt. I think his mother may have been Mary Ann Hurl born about 1821 in Ireland. If she was not his mother she was a close relation maybe aunt. William is one of our family names :ie George's eldest son born in Glasgow in 1866. So I am sure these Hurls are all linked up.

I also have Hurl ancestors from Magherafelt. We believe that my great gt grandfather, George was born there and certainly his mother? / aunt? Mary ann Hurl was born there in about 1821. We know his 3rd son Daniel was born there in 1872 but his other children were born in Glasgow. The family had strong links with both countries but we have found no link with England.

According to 'The Family Record of David Lehman Booher and his Wife Elizabeth Nutts', by Kary Palmer Phillips, she was born 18-Aug-1847 and died 13-Mar-1922. She married Isaac F. Lehman and had children Joseph Lesley Lehman, Lewis E. Lehman, Chloe Flaa Lehman, Perly Rufus Lehman.

My great grandfather was Hugh Hurl, Thomas' brother.

I have a family tree that stops the same place as you, William Hurl Magherafelt, Northern Ireland.

I am the granddaughter of Edward Hurl of Midland, Ontario.
My mother was Bertha Florence Hurl, Sister of Russell Hurl.
She married Robert Martin Rutherford, and died in 1988 in Flint, Michigan. A brother,Douglas
lived in Oshawa, Ontario until his death. He has no surviving children. Contact me as I have some interesting artifacts.

I am looking for some information on my father's side. My grandfather was Thomas Hurl, born May 26, 1892, in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland. His parents were William Hurl (born May 26, 1847, place unknown) and Mary Bell (born 1859, place unknown, and died in 1924 in Magherafelt). I am looking for information on William Hurl. My research in Northern Ireland is very limited, and I have a feeling that he may have come from England.

I don't know if I am related to Edward Hurl or not but I will give you my Simcoe County Hurl ancestors and perhaps you would let me know if we are related.
My great-grandfather was Richard Hurl. He was born in 1866 in Coldwater (Medente Township) in Simcoe County. He married Eliza Silk also of Coldwater. Their children were: Reid, Joe and my grandfather William George Hurl - who was born in Matchedash Township, Simcoe County in 1890.
