Ashley,
From the Hurley Families Book #2....page 265

Joseph Hurley was born January 28, 1823 in North Carolina and died Jan 16, 1911 in Searcy County, Arkansas. His parents are not known, he must have moved as a young man, perhaps with his parents, to Georgia. He was married Jan. 23, 1849 at Summerville, Chatooga County, Georgia to Sarah Redwine, born Oct 4, 1831 in Georgia, and died July 26, 1910 in Searcy County, Arkansas. Her parents were Daniel L. Redwine and Nancy Hancock. Joseph's children..first born in Cherokee County, Alabama and the rest in Searcy County, Arkansas. It states he had 6 children with info listed. If you don't have this info and would like it let me know. Sorry no parents, but at least the counties and states may be helpful.
Susan
Hello Margaret,
Very nice to hear from you. Thankyou for the information regarding the Hurleys. My Grandfather very rarely spoke of his family in England. He lived to 97 years of age and was relatively healthy.
The story of Donald McGill is facinating. Another artist in the family was Robert Newton Hurley who painted prairie scenes in Saskatchewan.
Well, take care and any stories you may have about the Hurley Family is always appreciated.
Regards,
Bill Hurley

Hi Joanne,
Did you find any information on Alice J. Hurley? If not, go to www.familysearch.org and put in "Alice Hurley" birthplace Massachusetts between 1854-1858 and then put in Michael Baker as her spouse. Her marriage record comes up with her parents and she was born in Wareham and then they had a child in Middleborough named Mary Ellen. Hope this helps. By the way, my mom is Alice Hurley. Not your great grandmother but a little coincidence. LOL

Anastasia Hurley Finnigan, Sarah Hurley O'Connor, Nellie Hurley Malia

Hello to all Hurley family member's who believe they are related to Anastasia Catherine(Hurley)Finnigan or
Sarah M.(Hurley)O'Connor.
If she died in 1955 there has to be someone out there who was alive and spoke to this woman. PLEASE email me if you had the opportunity to know her.
Based on the 1880 Wisconsin Census, their parents were Matthew and Brigget Hurley. By 1900 Census, Matthew/Mathew had died, Brigget/Bridget was living with her son Mathew and her daughter Sarah(Hurley)O'Connor & Family.
Bridget, lists she had 9 children/ 6 living in 1900. I feel comfortable with believing Sarah and Anna's parents Bridget (Foley)Hurley and Mathew Hurley were my Grandparents as well. But I'd REALLY like real sources about all of their children. I know Nellie/Helen/Ellen Hurley is my 2nd GGM. She died 1897. I know she had a brother, James, who took in her(Nellie's) daughter Sarah/Sadie after she,(Nellie)died.
I have the following children contributed to Mathew & Bridget:
1.Mary b.1851/52 d.1918, 2.John b.1854
3.Michael b.1855 d.bef.1880, 4.James b.1857/58 d.1939,
5.Nellie b.1858/59 d.1897, 6.Mathew 1864-1941,
7.Sarah 1867-1941, 8.Anna 1872-1955,
9.Child b.? d.bef.1880
This information is partly from the 1861 Canadian Census as well as the 1851 Canadian Census. These also supply what I believe to be Mathew parents, James and Mary and a few siblings.
Of course they named their children common Irish names but it does appear that each generation used the Irish naming pattern traditions.
I can not find an 1870 Wisconsin Census for this Hurley Family. If you have one...email me PLEASE!
If you hold a family bible or other docs for this line or you knew them, PLEASE contact me.

I'd really like documents or first hand accounts.
THANK YOU!! I'll share with all family if I get anything.
Karin Berry
Looking for information. Pretty sure Mother was Hanna Hurley, unsure what father's name was. Born in Massechusettes 1883. Have census info for him and his brother John J. both showing Mother Hannah, shows 4 out of 6 children living, shows she was married, but lists her as Head of house and only shows 2 boys, in Massechusettes 1900 census. Shows she was 47 years old, and had been married for 27 years. She was born in Irelnad 1852 and had come to US in 1863.

My mother, Wanda Jane Hurley, was born in Hurley in 1945. Her father was James Clarence Hurley and her mother was Alice Parks Hurley. I am trying to find out if my grandfather is part of George Hurley's or Sam Hurley's family. I am sure he is probably kin to both but I don't know how. My grandmother birthday was 3-10-10. I am not sure what my grandfather's was but he is a few years older than my grandmother. My mother goes by Jane and she was named after Sam Hurley's wife, Jane Hurley. Any help you can give me is appreciated.

I have used LDS - but I find it better to go to the regional library and order films and microfiche and view them myself. Much of the information they have online is inaccurate. It's kind of like the Ancestry records - many transcription errors. Whenever it's possible, I look at the original document. When Ancestry doesn't have the original for viewing, I go to the LDS and view the film/fiche. I haven't gone in a while tho - I think I will soon. :) good idea! I hope the Bandon church will answer you.

Many thanks for the reply. I thought I saw an e-mail address on the site a few years back but it wasn't there when I checked recently. They probably took it down because they were besieged with requests from people like us! I'll give it a try anyways, mentioning how much it would mean to my 90 year old mother who is from Bandon.

By the way, have you ever tried the Latter Day's Saints Family search site? They have a Ireland Births and Baptisms, 1620-1881 collection which includes some records from Bandon. I found my grandfather, his siblings and my great grandfather's baptisms (Murphys). I already had dates from my mom but was able to confirm the dates. I had to look through a lot of results but eventually found them. But there were others I didn't find.

Here's the link if you would like to try it:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=https%3A...

Pat
oh yeah, I should probably mention, my James Cronin and Mary Hurly baptized a child in the Bandon Catholic Church in 1844,Daniel, (my gg gf) 7 April, 1844 and also a son, Denis (whose last name at that time was written as Croneen) was baptized there, 21 Dec 1846. I am not sure if these are birthdates or baptismal dates, the monsignor who answered my email didn't specify and a 2nd email went unanswered.
I don't know if they had any more children and if they did where they were born.

What I do know is their first born, Daniel (a brick layer) immigrated to New York in the 1860's and on Oct 12, 1871 in NY, he married Ellen Donovan also born in Bandon and baptized at the same Bandon Catholic Church 4 Jan 1846. At their wedding the wtnesses are Patrick Donovan and Honora Driscoll.

Ellen's parents were Jeremiah Donovan and Ellen McCormac/McCormick/etc. Jeremiah and Ellen were not married in the Bandon Catholic church and Ellen is the only child baptized there.

I mention this in case anyone connects to this family.

In a search I found:
Ohio 1810 State Census Index for Washington Co.
Name: Zadock Hurley
State: Ohio
County: Greene County
Township: Ceasar Township
Year: 1810
Record type: tax list
Page: 22
Database: Ohio 1810 Washington Co. Census Index
Also in the 1820 US census for Caesars Creek, Greene, Ohio, I find a Zadock Hurley, apparently between the age of 26 and 44 as is his wife and 6 children. The children are listed as 1 male under 10 years of age, 3 females under 10 years of age, 2 females between the ages of 10 and 15.

Not sure if this is your ancestor or a child/grandchild of... If you have a specific database you want me to search at Ancestry, I'm happy to do it. dee

Did you have any difficulty getting the records from the Catholic church in Bandon - St. Patrick's, I believe? I've heard some parishes don't want to be bothered with genealogy requests. The records I have on my grandparents and great grandparents are ones my mom got when she still lived in Bandon. I 'd love to go further back in the tree, I do know the names of my great ,great grandparents on the Murphy side. How did you contact them - in person, snail mail or phone? I don't see an e-mail addy on the parish website.

Thanks for any advice you could give,
Pat

Do you have any dates to go with these names? I'm looking for a Mary Hurley from around Bandon, who married a James Cronin. Maybe the Mary you mention as a daughter of James and Hannah is a possibility. My Mary Hurley Cronin would have had a child around 1844 - give or take a year. Not sure if this was her first but I suspect so.

My mom is from Bandon, County Cork which isn't that far from Skibbereen and she had a aunt, Hannah Murphy, who married a James Hurley. I don't know if this is your Hannah but thought I would mention it just in case. From what my mom remembers, James was a cattle drover who worked mainly in England sending money home and coming home to visit sometimes. They had 5 children: Nora, Nellie, Mary, Sheila and Thomas. The children moved to England when they were adults and James stayed in England after Hannah's death. I don't have any dates.

Anyway, I hope this might help you or at least someone else out there.

Pat

Hello! What you have offered is really kind.
Okay this is my wish list:
Can you tell me if their are any Hurley's in Wisconsin listed? If so, are there any of the following names:
Mathew, Bridget, Helen or Nellie, & John F. All would be in the 1800's or into the very early 1900's.
THANK YOU!!!!!
Karin Berry

Re: Timothy Hurley born 1870 in Timoleague, Ireland and lived in Joliet, Illinois 1893

Thanks for the information. I have been to the web site and found this information. What I am looking for is what happened to Timothy after 1893 in Joliet. Denis Hurley, 1864 was my great grandfather and I am looking for others of the Hurley family. I know that Kate went to Pittsburgh PA and married a Regan. Again, I do thank you for your help.
Have a great day
Peter
