I have newspaper announcement that states they married in a winterstorm at Holstein Ia. Della's sister Nora was bridemaid; possibly took place at Woodbery Inn. Courtship started four yrs earlier in Davenport Ia. Brother was John Huss. The only info I have on Nat Mallory is he married later in life at age 50 to a Ruth Jenson.

Good luck with your work. The Huss family in my tree are from Germany. Johannnes Huss was born in 1727 in Heidelberg, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. Johannnes Huss was born in 1727 and immigrated to the US in 1752. They settled in Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

It seems that there have been Husses all over the world, so you definitely have your work cut out for you. Again, good luck!

My wife is a Huss with Roots going to Weyersheim ( Alsace Lorraine) where Huss is apparently a very common name. ( Search huss weyersheim for more info) They claim the family came from Czechoslovakia in the 1600s and settled in Alsace. The Huss name is also associated with the hussite followere of Jan Hus. I have no tree information from alsace which would allow me to trace a Paul Huss who emigrated to USA.

I just came across an Agnes Ellen Huss who married John Wesley Love (1834-1914). According to my database, Agnes' parents were James Huss and Elizabeth Freely.
John Wesley Love's parents were Thomas Love (1804-1841) and Rachel Sweigert (1811-1875). John Wesley Love had a brother named James, who was born in 1830 and died in 1831.
Could this be the same Agnes Huss you were looking for? I have no other information on her. The link to my line is through Rachel Sweigert whose mother was Mary Mundorf.

Re: Huss One Name Study

My Huss family appear to be British. We have traced the name back to the early 1700's in the UK before hitting a brick wall, which may be the point they arrived, but only time and more searching will tell. There is also a cluster not related to my family in Derbyshire in the UK, although these seem to be Swedish in origin. This study is in it's infancy but it will eventually be a worldwide study of the incidence of the name Huss, looking at it's orgins and migration patterns. I have currently completed stage 1 which is the recording the incidence of the name in all UK civil registration and census records from 1837 - current availability and forming family tress where possible from this information. The second stage is to look at the US incidence and Europe. It seems that this name has a German/Easter European origin. I currently don't have any information other than the UK, so anything you would be willing to contribute would be great and fully acknowledged. This is the GOONS website so you can get a bit more of an idea of where the project is heading. http://www.one-name.org/onswhatis.html
I think this is going to be a long process, but I will keep everyone who is interested posted.

There is also a Huss line from the Minneota, Minnesota area that is if I'm remembering correctly, Swedish. What is it that you would like?
I am in the process of setting up a one-name study of the Huss family. This name is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies in the UK. My current research is based in the UK, but any information on this name in the world is greatfully received. I am more than happy to provide help for anyone researching this name and have a number of trees available back to the late 1700's. In due course there will be a website which I will post details of the family name. Any information will be fully credited to you, the person supplying the information.
Please get in touch if you want more info!

Huss, Harris

I am looking for information or family kin that know of Frances H. Harris, who died in a kansas city fire after 1906. She was known as Frances H. Marto in MN in the 1890's. I believe her maiden name was Huss and was family to Wyan P. Huss and Susan Jones-Huss in Doniphan county. Frances had a daughter named (Lydia Ida Huss) who married a Walter Arden Strawmatt and lived in Lake City, Winona, MN. And Ida had a little brother named William. Ida and William's grandparents were Wyan and Susan Huss. Ida died in Wabasha county MN while her mother, Frances was a Marto.
As for the fire Frances had died in, I know not the particulars, but there is mention of Highland Station in Kansas City, KS. She had a uncle named James Huss and a cousin named Adam Huss. I am looking for information pertaining directly to Frances. Frances was involved in giving permission for Ida's son to join the military in 1906. There is a definite link to Doniphan county. I would appreciate a sincere reply.

John F. Huss, landscape architect

I am interested in the life and work of John F. Huss, landscape architect. Huss was born on May 11, 1846, in Mallans, Switzerland, near Bern. After education in work in Bern, Paris, and London, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Philadelphia in 1875. He then spent two years with the company of Samuel Parson in Flushing, New York, returning to Philadelphia in 1875 to work with the Buist firm.

In 1885 he was appointed general foreman of the construction of new parks in New York. In 1890 he moved to Lenox, Massachusetts, where he was superintendent of the grounds of the Morgan Estate for eight years. Huss then returned to Switzerland for two years, returning to Hartford, Connecticut in 1900.

Kurt Culbertson
120 East Main
Aspen, Colorado 81611

Daniela,

I don't speak Spanish, but we may have a possible connection. Here it is:

Hubertus “Hubert” Huss
Born: January 15, 1783

He married Catherine Schoelen November 22, 1808 in Bettingen. Bettingen is a bit southwest of Bitburg. Altenhof lies off the main road between Bettingen and Oberweis. Altenhof means “old farm.”

Died: Fliessem Germany June 12, 1855 at the age of 76 years old

Katherina Schoelen
Born: June 21, 1791 in Bettingen-Altenhof

Her father was, Mathias Schoelen, whose parents were Mathias and Katharine Schoelen of Freilingen.
Do you happen to know Florence's parents' names? There are some Florence's mentioned. I have a lot of information on the Huss Family of Iowa and Pennsylvania with many photographs. (The family of John Huss of Iowa............ john's parents were Noah Huss and Mary Burkholder). I have info going back to Elisha Huss born 1765).
Lori
