I am a descendant. Robert Lawrence Hutchinson and James Reginald Hutchinson were the sons of Richard Thomas Hutchinson. The family born in Scotland was forsaken by Richard and he started another family. Robert L. kept in touch with great grand dad. Uncle Bob had jumpers that were shown in the USA at Madison Square Garden and in Canada. Uncle James has been researched and he was a Northwest Mountie. I happy to learn John ("Jack") went to South Africa with his mom. What year did they go to South Africa?
One sister T.M. lived in Canada too. There was also a daughter, Margaret and a son perhaps a son, Richard Thomas.
The family knew Margaret and some of the children went to South Africa.
I am interested in trading information with you. I have more information.

My grandfather was Levi Hutchinson; his father's name was Lewis Allen Hutchinson; his dad was S. T. Hutchinson, from South Carolina. That is all I know. My grandfather lived in north west Mississippi and the family might have lived in north east Mississippi before that. Since I don't know what the initials of my great great grand father stands for, I can't get much further. S. T., however, have a son by the name of "Sylversteen" Any help at all would be appreciated.

Hello,

You did not mention where your Howard HUTCHINSON, father and son, lived. I checked census information and there were only a few people with the name. I did find one boy, but he was living as a boarder with a HARRINGTON couple (in their 50's).

HUTCHINSON, HOWARD (1900 U.S. Census)
MASSACHUSETTS , NORFOLK, WELLESLEY
Age: 6, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: NY
Series: T623 Roll: 672 Page: 123

The name seems to be popular in NJ. There are 2 in different counties; this one is a boarder, and the 2nd one is in the "State Home for Boys."

HUTCHINSON, HOWARD (1900 U.S. Census)
NEW JERSEY , MONMOUTH, SHREWSBURY TWP
Age: 36, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: NJ
Series: T623 Roll: 987 Page: 181

HUTCHINSON, HOWARD (1900 U.S. Census)
NEW JERSEY , MIDDLESEX, MONROE TWP
Age: 14, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: NJ
Series: T623 Roll: 984 Page: 78

By 1910 there are a few more Howard's, 2 in NY and one in MA. This one has a wife and 3 young children.

HUTCHINSON, HOWARD R (1910 U.S. Census)
MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 24-WD BOSTON
Age: 30, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: CANA
Series: T624 Roll: 624 Page: 101

I hope this is useful.

I'd like to mention one curious thing. There are 3 couples in Mercer County, NJ, in 1880, and each had a son, named Howard HUTCHINSON.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists and Boards for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists and 3 Boards, including a List for CAN-USA-Migration and a Board for New-England-Research)

John Thomas Hutchinson married Gertrude Cross in Cork, Ireland in 1912 (not sure why Cork). They had two children Mabel and John Thomas Junior. After John Thomas Senior was killed in the war, Gertrude married his younger brother Hugh Hutchinson and went on to have 4 other children, one of whom was my grandmother, Doris Hutchinson. The family moved to Canada in June 1924, including Mabel and John Thomas Junior. All of their descendants remain in Canada today. They settled in the area around Toronto.
What is your relationship and interest in John Thomas Hutchinson?

Regards

Linda

Amanda is living with Elias and Nancy Hutchinson Cline in 1850. Nancy is age 27 and Amanda is 15. Perhaps they were sisters or cousins. Thanks for any help.

He flew 2tours with the 75 New Zealand squadron. Through a photo sent by the some of Dad's pilot and research into the operational histories at the start of 1945, I have identified the above individual as performing the role of mid upper gunner in my Fathers Lancaster crew.

Does anybody know of a relative that might be this man ?

I look forward to hearing from somebody !!

all the best

Simon

I think so!
I can trace my line back to a Mary Hutchinson, b. 1656, dau of Edward Hutchinson of Lynn, who was a son of ? and Anne Hutchinson.
Hutchinsons of Cromwell

Sarah Hutchinson is my great-great grandmother straight up and she has 4 children. One of her son, is my great-grandfather, Patrick. He has two other brothers: John J. and William H. He also has a sister: E. Anna Hutchinson.

My BIG question is E. Anna Hutchinson was 7 years old in 1880 census but nothing on her after 1890 census. Did she die young? What happened to her? Why can't I find information on her? Only her 1880 census. I searched and searched for her but no information. What's going on? I cannot afford Ancestry.com and I did try the free US Obituary Collection during it's 15 days of free look ups but it proved to be problemtic because I typed in specifics they gave me generals from different states not just Connecticut. So disappointed.

Sarah and her family lived in Cromwell, CT.

Can anyone kindly please help me locate her: death certificate and obituary possible birth? I believe she was born in Cromwell. Oh E. Anna's father is William H. Hutchinson from Ireland. I assumed he died before coming to America.

I'm going crazy trying to figure out what happened to her.

Thank you kindly ahead for your help!

Christine Cerro
christine.cerro@123mail.net

Unfortunately, Thomas died within days of arriving, leaving a widow and 5 children. George and Margaret had a son, Nathaniel, within 2 yrs. after arriving. He was their only child, but Nathaniel had several children to carry on the name.

George settled in Charlestown, and then in Woburn, and his descendants lived in the part of Woburn which became Winchester (after 1800). His descendants bought land in the 1720's and that farm continued to build until it became a very large farm during the mid-1800's. It was in family hands until ~1960.

There is not a good summary of the descendants of Thomas HUTCHINSON, and there is a lot of discussion on who his widow remarried to. Added to that is that his descendants are confused with the descendants of the other patriarch, Richard HUTCHINSON, of Salem, MA. (They were both on the North Shore for a time.)

And, my ancestor, Jacob Homer HUTCHINSON, was one of 6 siblings probably born on the farm in the 1810-1820 timeframe. It was probably Jacob who built the 2nd farmhouse across the street ~1850. Or, possibly just after he married Eliza CROSBY in 1838. The large CROSBY market farm was a neighboring farm, but it existed down the street in Arlington. It was owned and run by Eliza's brother, John CROSBY. (I've posted about this family before on several Lists.)

One of my genealogy-regrets is that no one ever wrote a book about the descendants of George and Thomas HUTCHINSON. And, I have many notes and some of the family's papers, and a few old pictures, but I've never had the time or energy to summarize them.

The CROSBY families in Arlington (that Farm family) is descended from the patriarch, Simon CROSBY, arriving, I think, in 1634. In particular, they are descended from one of Simon's 3 sons, the Simon who settled in Billerica. Maybe 2 yrs. ago, I think I found the correct line for the family. Researchers had the wrong couple. I cannot prove the correct couple, but Jessaniah CROSBY had "a son" - who I believe is the ancestor.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists)

* If you search long enough on-line, you will find data on George's descendants. I have a large folder of papers of my findings, and never had time to organize the information.

FYI: My family has a picture of the replacement farmhouse, probably built in 1880's, at 21 Ridge St. in Winchester. I lived in that farmhouse as a young child in the 1940's. That was torn down ~1960. The 2nd farmhouse at 18 Ridge St., probably built ~1850 still stands. It is a mystery to me why .no one. has a picture of the original farmhouse at 21 Ridge St. Family-papers say that it was a very nice and large home where "society from Arlington" would gather !

(I had to be away from genealogy for more than 6 mos. this year, because of my husband's serious health-problem last Nov. He is still recovering, but is doing well, so I can get back into genealogy a little this fall.)

(I have contacted both the Winchester Historical Society and the Arlington Historical Society. And neither knows of the pictures I need.)

(I've posted about these ancestors for 10 yrs., but mostly on the Lists. So, you can check the archives for more details. And there is information on them on the Message Boards at www.genforum.com

Hi again,

I went to the HUTCHINSON List and found an old posting which told of my Hutchinson's children in Brooklyn, NY. It looks like John (b~1815 MA) had his son, John, born ~1840 in MA, so he would have been a child when they moved to NY.

FYI:

In 1870, John W. HUTCHINSON was living in Brooklyn, Age 30, with a wife,
Gertrude, 29, born in VT. (I believe this is a son, but not positive.)

The 1880 census has Edward HUTCHINSON living in Brooklyn with his wife,
Effie (?). He was 36 and she was 34, and she was from a NY family. They
had a daughter, Sarah, 3, and a son, John B., 6 mos.

And, the same year, John B. HUTCHINSON, 65, and wife, Ruthy, 64 were living
there with their daughter, Sarah, 34.

And, John W. HUTCHINSON, 41, and wife, Gertrude, 39, were living in
Brooklyn, and they had 2 daughters, Ruth and Margaret (unknown ages).
They had a nephew living with them.

Now, I can say, that the 6 siblings on the HUTCHINSON Farm in the very early 1800's had many cousins. We don't have any photos of them, and we only have basic information on them. So, it's possible that descendants of the uncles and aunts might have gone to NY.

Betty

P.S. One of my genealogy-frustrations is that no researcher has ever written a book or even a booklet about the descendants of my George HUTCHINSON, and his brother, Thomas HUTCHINSON, who arrived in 1630 with "The Winthrop Fleet."

The other genealogy-frustration is that I've never had the wherewithal to write a booklet about them myself.

(Thomas died upon arrival in 1630, but he had his wife and children with him.)

Hi again,

I just looked at a few of the photos I have, and I see a resemblance. Especially with Carleton Homer Hutchinson, b1870 near Boston, MA.

I thought my sister had sent me the copy of the tintype of his father, George Homer Hutchineson, over the summer, but I'm not spotting it in my computer right now. George was born in 1843 near Boston, MA, so would have been near the age of the John in your photo.

We only have a poor photo (snapshot) of the Thomas Hutchinson, born around 1850. But, I still see a slight resemblance.

If I go to the archives of the Brooklyn, NY, List, I can probably find the names of the John Hutchinson's children, there.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Photos of Families of Winchester, MA (and their home)

Hello,

I'd like to mention separately that I spent part of my younger childhood living in one of the HUTCHINSON Farmhouses in Winchester, MA. There were 2 farmhouses across the street from each other on the very large farm in the mid-1800's. The other one still stands. The large, fancy, well-known one unfortunately burned down ~1880. And, one of my regrets is that "no one" seems to have a picture or drawing of that house. (I have always wondered whether the John HUTCHINSON who moved to Brooklyn, NY, ~1850, took many papers and photos with him.)

My great-grandmother, a granddaughter of Jacob HUTCHINSON (1818-1897), died in 1958. I had lived with her until 1952. The part of the farm was sold out of the family, so my family and our great-uncle's family was able to retrieve many papers, photos, and items from the large attic. If I'm remembering correctly, we have a tintype of Jacob's only son, George HUTCHINSON. We have a tintype of George's only son, Carleton HUTCHINSON, and we don't have a photo of Carleton's only son, but I was able to obtain a photo of Dr. Leslie "Loring" HUTCHINSON's only son, Robert HUTCHINSON. (Bob died ~5 yrs. ago, and I visited his gravesite last week.)

I would love to find a photo of Jacob, and his older brother, John, and their other brother, Thomas. However, we do have a very old picture of Thomas' only son, Thomas. (That Thomas never married.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists for 10 yrs.; now an Admin of 9 Lists,
including CAN-USA-Migration,
and the 2 Boards which go along with it)

* Dr. Leslie "Loring" HUTCHINSON, who almost always lived in Cambridge, MA. He was a Podiatrist there, and had a nice home there. His parents were divorced, and he and his sister lived in Cambridge with their mother. I've written to the Cambridge Historical Society, and they don't have any information on Dr. Hutchinson. I sure wish I could find a picture of him.

(He and his son, Bob, seem to have spent more family with their in-laws than they did with their HUTCHINSON relatives. In fact, I just found out last year that Dr. Hutchinson's father, Carleton, was buried in a paupers' grave in Medford, MA. They all were alive when I was growing up in Winchester and Arlington, MA, and I never heard about them.)
:o(

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for offering this photo. I sure wish I could claim it.

Because I knew a man in the 1980's who grew up in Medina, I know that it is in the northwest of the state, bordering on Canada.

The John HUTCHINSON I am very interested in was born ~1815 in what is now Winchester, MA, just outside of Boston. ~1850 he and 2 married sisters moved down to Brooklyn, NY. I believe he had 2 children, probabliy born 1840's, and I've never heard from any descendant. I think the children remained in Brooklyn, but I'm not positive.

His 2 younger brothers remained on the large Farm in Winchester (and another married sister), and I am descended from Jacob. We have a few tintypes of some members of the family, but the only photos I have is of Jacob's son, George, and his son, Carleton, and his grandson, Robert (died less than 10 yrs. ago).

I will have to compare the photo you have to the photos I have.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(large HUTCHINSON Farm, in family hands from 1720's to 1960)

I recently purchased a photo of John at a local flea market (Eugene, OR). John was born abt 1859 and resided mainly in Medina and Ridgeway, Orleans, New York. His parents were William Hutchinson and Helen Sinclair. John married Nina Frary. There are also some other Medina photos that were from the same lot with names like Mary (Pells) Gray, and Wilbur Sawyer. All cabinet photos are circa 1890. I am not related, if you are and would like the original(s), just let me know!
