Hiya Ron,

I'm in Northampton, but grew up in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. My Father is still in Bletchley, having been born in Bagshot, but grew up in Bletchley. His name is Micheal Hutt and his dad was a Percy Harold Hutt. I know my Granddad had many brothers and sisters and some are still alive living around the Oxfordshire area? I have found out that in Nova Scotia, "HUTT" is a common name. I know that the Hutt name also goes back centuries, so there may not be any family ties between you and me apart from having the same surname?

Daniel Hutt, "Merchant of London" Plied the waters off the coast of North America in the middle of the 17th century. He patented land in what is now Westmoreland Co. Virginia and married Temperance Gerard in 1669. He had a daughter, Ann, by an unknown wife prior to that marriage. He died in 1674 leaving one son, Gerard Hutt, and that daughter. Gerard fathered eight children who have a large number of Americans. Hutts still reside in the area around Nomini Creek where Daniel Hut settled.

I'm a direct descendant of Gerard Hutt and as a child occasionally visited the "Northern Neck" cousins in Montross Virginia.

As to his baptism, I don't know anything. The Hutts were associated with Cople Parish.

It is possible that she emigrated to Canada. I'd be interested to know whether or not anyone has any information that might help in tracing her.

Hi there
I live in Bucks and most of my Hutts are concentrated around Coventry. I am aware that Hutts are also concentrated in the Oxford area. By coincidence my cousin Alan Hutt lives in a house in Finstock built and previously owned by Hutt. There are a substantial number of Hutts buried in the local churchyard. To date however I have not established a link with these Oxford Hutts. I was not previously aware of Esau. Esau I would think is quite unusual as late as the lat century although not uncommon in the 1800's & 1900's. You might be interested to hear that Arthur Hutt a distant relation won the Victoria Cross in WW1 and survived the war.

Best of luck with your ongoing searches

I live near Southmoor in Oxon, as did (I think) one Esau Hutt who drowned not far from our house. Is he one of your relatives and do you have any information on him? All I have is this .....

Esau left his home on 27th June 1936. After going missing he was eventually found in 4-5 inches of water in a shallow stream known as "Pylon Ditch" the next day. I think "Pylon" might well be "Piling" as Piling Hill is nearby. Anyway from all accounts Piling Ditch is a shallow stream separating Fyfield from Tubney. Esau was found on the Fyfield side of the ditch and he had carefully placed his walking stick in the ground and left his hat on it......

Because I was intrigued by the case I checked the Oxford Times reports in the Oxford Library for any dates around that time and discovered there is an account the following Friday, 4th July 1936. All very strange................
smoorhea,
Thank you so much for the help. I had the information you did in the first couple of paragraphs. In fact the 1900 Census states that Nannie is 22, a widow and had two children and only one living. It makes me wonder if the husband and child were in an accident. Since I'm 70 years old I remember Henry Bray Hutt. I even have a picture of Nannie somewhere.
My mother just passed away about a month ago; wish I had started this a year ago, but better late than never.
Thanks again for the help.
Bob

I found Henry and his mother living with Joseph E. Weakley in the 1900 Census in Robertson, Madison, Virginia (see attached). Nannie is listed as a niece. That could be niece to Joseph or niece to his wife Palmley. Henry was born Aug 1898 and Nannie was born May 1878 according to this census record. It also says Nannie has had two chldren but only one is living. I found a WWI draft card for Henry Bray. It gives his birthdate as August 12, 1898. He lists his mother as Nannie Jenkins (so she remarried a Jenkins). Henry Bray had blue eyes and black hair.

I found Henry and his mother in 1910. Her new husband is John L. Jenkins and they are living with John's father. I searched for Nannie Jenkins, which is good because Henry is listed with Bray as a last name instead of Hutt. Unfortunately the 1890 census was destroyed, but I did a search of the 1880 census for Hutt's in Rappahannock County, Virginia. There is one family. Rufus and Mary Hutt. There are three son's in that family. William, James & Wade.

I went to the Genweb page (http://www.rappahannockcountymarriages.com/H.php) for Rappahannock county and found a marriage record for Rufus Cornelius Hutt(s) and Mary Frances Weakley (there is your Weakley connection). I looked at the 1900 census and was able to find a Wade Hutt and a William Hutt born in VA with the same years but no James Hutt. I would suggest looking in Rappahannock County for a death record for James Hutt between Nov 1897 (abt when Henry was conceived) and June 1900 (date of the census). Hope this helps in your search.

Hi Ron,

I am not sure if you have this information. I have located the marriage of a William Hutt and Emma Hussey in Reading, Berkshire. They were married on 9 October 1869 at St Giles, Reading. William Hutt is listed as an engineer living at Newark Street. His father is listed as Henry, a sawyer. Emma Hussey is living at Newark Street. She was the daughter of John, a carpenter.

Interestingly, on the same day a Thomas Hussey (whose father was John, a carpenter) was married to Sarah Hanson.

My Hutt family were living in Whitchurch on Thames, Oxfordshire (about 11 miles away). A few of the family were living in Goring on Thames and Reading also.

I hope the information helps.

Thanks
Elyse Downham

Hi Peter
Henry Hutt's(B.circa 1827 of Little Milton)brother, Edwin Hutt was my Great Grand Father. Are you able to tell me who Henry (1855) married? I believe her name was Emma but I have been unable to confirm this. I believe also that they had about nine children.
I have some details of Henry's (1927) siblings, parents, fathers siblings and their parents if you are interested. I'd be glad to share my tree with you but it so far only available online with Genes Reunited. I could email info if you wish to leave an email address.
Happy Hutt hunting!
Hello Debbie
This is very interesting. I have two Henry Hutt's in my family tree and both lived in Tetsworth. However the elder, a farmer, was born in 1827 and the younger in 1855. I have checked the 1871 census and both were living on Hutt's Farm in Tetsworth at the time.
The Hutts were a large family in the area it seems and they tend to reuse traditional family names.
How much of your husbands ancestry do you know? Is he connected to the Tetsworth area?
Wendy

There were and currently are a large population of the Hutt family living on Tancook Island in Nova Scotia. Going to the Tancook Island history I found that Johannes Hutt-Hatt arrived in Halifax on the Ship "Speedwell" in 1751. He was born in Hemmenthal, Shaffhausen Canton, Switzerland in 1737. There is a strong possibility that any Hutt's living in Nova Scotia are descendants from Johannes. Happy hunting and good luck.

She married Abraham James Clendennan who had Nelson Adam Clendennan who had Georgiana Radclife Clendennan who married James McCormick who had Frank McCormick who had Calvin McCormick who was my children's grandfather. When I suggest there was a Mary Hutt born to Adam and Dorothea there are genealogists on line who are puzzled. I'm looking for confirmation. This family moved to New York State.
Are you sure "Dunder"?...

I think one of the main reasons with left Canada was their puposeful mispelling of our names on the record books.

I'm not sure yet about Francis, but he appears to have had several other brothers, all born in France.

I am descended of a James E. Hutte (1837-1893), who is thought to have been born in Canada, but we're not sure if it was Ontario or Quebec; I think that his fathers name, though, was either John or Francis, since his eldest son's name was John Francis. But they moved to New York in about 1878, and then to Sonoma, California in 1880.

We are not related to James Hagar Hutt of Los Angeles, or James Erastus Hutt of Ontario; but possibly Peter Hutty of Toronto.

My line is thru Mary Ann Hutt - she married Joseph Abbott and they had several children, my line is thru Fanny, she married a Pearson, her daughter then married a Henderson and so on...its my maternal line.

The 1861 census entry is on ancestry. Thomas was born in South Moor, Berkshire c1831 and Emma was born Northmoor, Oxfordshire c1831. They had several children in NZ. I know of Emily Elizabeth, Ellen Eliza, Arthur James, Eliza Alice, Grace Emily, Joseph Thomas, William Richard and James Herbert. Theres also a mention of a first child named Mara being born in 1851. I have no idea how accurate all of this is.

I was thinking of trying to locate a marriage certificate for Emma and Thomas, but I have found no record of any such marriage yet and in fact they seem to have just up and appeared in the UK in 1861 as I can find neither on the 1851 census, whether they were married then or not. I am wondering if perhaps they werent christian and hence thats why I cant find them in parish records......thats my latest theory anyway!!

Cheers
Ali

Hi Alison
Thomas Hutt & Emma nee Clifton are my 3xgreat grandparents thru the Abbott line. Annie Abbott was my great grandmother... you must descend from Lydia or ?? who also married a Pearson (sorry can't think if it was Harriet, Fanny or Lena off the top of my head). No I haven't been able to go back any further, I don't even have the 1861 census for them.
Regards,
Marilyn.
