Cornelius P. Huyck

I am looking for information concerning Cornelius P. Huyck of Ameliasburg,ONT Can. It appears he may be the son of Peter and Machteld Huyck.
The ancestor I am researching is Eliza Jane Huyck, daughter of Cornelius P. Huyck, mother, unknown. I have information on Eliza. one sibling, and some of her descendants but am looking to connect her up to Cornelius with some good solid sources or evidence.

Any help would be appreciated.
Mary Lou

not related - for your info only

Norris, Lillian Matilda Huyck

In Memoriam Lillian Matilda Huyck Norris August 25, 1915 - October 26, 1957 It's been fifty years since Lillian left her family and friends much too soon at age 42. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Huyck (1876-1953). In 1957, she was survived by her husband, Burl Norris (1913-1977); daughter, Judy Norris (then 13); son, Bob Norris (then 9); father, Edgar Huyck (1880-1969); brother, Willard Huyck, Sr.; sister-in-law, Coramae Huyck; sister, Ethel Huntsman (1921-1993); brother -in-law, Harold Huntsman (1917-2004) and numerous loving friends and relatives. Unfortunately, future son-in-law, Vincent Stagnaro (1940-2006); granddaughter, Julie Bell (born 1964) and Julie's husband, Houston Bell never had the opportunity of knowing her kindness and the gentle loving ways she exhibited. She would have loved them dearly and been so very proud of them as she was with all her family. Not a day goes by without reflecting on the many precious moments we shared with her. All are treasured and valued memories. Thank you, Mother, for touching our lives and for all the loving care you gave us during the few short years you were here with us on Earth. We love you and miss you more than you realize. We send our love until we meet again.
Published in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on 10/27/2007.

Hello. I'm trying to find any info available on my grandmother, Celia Huyck Duncan, born Oct. 1908 in Alpena,MI. She married David Duncan and lived in Arkansas. She had brothers I believe who's names were: Jim, Dave and John. Her family originally came from Canada. I think her fathers name was either Cyrus or maybe Sylvester, but I'm not sure on that. I know my aunts used to take her to Michigan to visit her brothers, and I think they played some sort of music. She died in Arkansas in 2000.

Captain Frank B. HUYCK, Shipwreck of the Cyprus

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in northern Michigan recently the discovered the wreck of the Cyprus, and are now pursuing the link with the Huyck family. “The Cyprus, under the command of Captain F.B. Huyck, had left Superior, Wisconsin the previous morning with iron ore for the mills of Lackawanna, New York.” On Oct. 11, for no obvious reason, the brand-new ship, “in darkness and rolling seas, the Cyprus suddenly rolled to port, turning turtle and sinking.”

All the crew, including Captain Huyck , was lost, except for Charles Pitz, the second mate. Now that the wreck of the Cyprus has been found, the Museum and Captain Ann Sanborn, the great-niece of Charles Pitz and a Master Mariner herself, are looking for any information or pictures about Captain Huyck and the Cyprus.

They picked up some “Huyck chatter” on the internet among us, and approached David Gubanc, another Huyck descendent. He forwarded the communication to me, and I’m starting the search.

I found Captain Frank B. Huyck easily enough in Sylvia Wilson’s peerless Huycks in America—he’s #3536. Born March 25, 1859, Sheridan, Chautauqua County, New York. Died 1907, Lake Superior
His Huyck roots are as follows:

Father: Ansel Brainard Huyck 1822 - Delaware County, NY
Died 1872 Will County, IL
Mother Emily Pound died 1888 Sheridan, NY

Grandfather:Richard Huyck 1789 Kinderhook; - 1869 Silver Creek NY

--Great-grandfather: Dirk Huyck 1764 – Kinderhook marrried to Catharine Huyck 1782

------Andries J. Huyck 1725

----------Andries Jr.

--------------Andries Hanse Huyck

The descendents of Captain Frank B. Huyck have been identified as follows: “The Captain was married, at Chicago, in February, 1889, to Miss Helen I. Samse, by whom he has two children. Franklin and Ansel. The family reside at Sheridan, New York.”

Ansel Brainard. Huyck was born March 18, 1891 in Sheridan, New York and died April 19, 1959 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was married to Attie Smith, and had three children, the oldest of which was Frank B. Huyck.

This Frank B. Huyck was born January 22, 1916, in Ashtabula, Ohio. His wife’s name was Betty, and he died in 1977, in Naples, Florida. He had two siblings:

Charles S. Huyck, born in 1918, and Robert S. Huyck, born in 1925, both in Ashtabula. Charles apparently had two daughters, Patricia, born in 1941, and Charlyne, born in 1948, both in Dallas Texas. Robert Huyck had two children: Sharleen, born in 1950, and another child born in 1952.

If you know about any of these family members, please get in touch with me:

E-mail Ann Myers at,
almrules@columbus.rr.com

I’ll be thrilled to put you in touch with the Shipwreck Museum.

Could it be Barbara and George Hauke (Houck)? If you have any info please let me know.
Thanks, Rosemarie

sorry for the delay in response; sylvia wilson in her book "huyck in america" listed henry huycke of cramahe township (1851) as father to henry powers abel huycke; in a letter she suggested that henry huycke could have been a brother to aaron huyck(e) (son to robert huyck and eleanor mcmasters) but that this relationship was unproven; she did not list any source citations in her book; eleanor had a second marriage to a Kemp or Kent according to Wilson (1982); did you see the census data for aaron huyck in sheboygan county, wisconsin ?; will send stuff next week; off to work!

have two questions. the information i have indicates roxanna was born 10 feb. 1859 in upper woodstock, canada. (1) what info do you have on her birthplace? (2) Have any info on William Jeffers her first husband? a family register listed her first marriage: "Wm Jeffers married to Miss Roxanna Huycke Sept 1875 Town of Leon Waushara Co, Wis,". The historical record i have had access to is pretty scant (haven't tried to access local records in Washara County yet).

My husbands father was Albert Raymond Huycke. We have researched the family for a very long time. We are not looking for any info. I saw a post and added our family info to it just in case someone wanted additional info. We are very interested in continuing an open dialoge with any family researchers. By shareing info only completes and prefects the family line. Contact us any time. I am glad that someone out there responded. See you later.
Marilyn and Jon Huycke

manar@prodigy.net

Sylvia provided the main research, with several of us providing information describing specific lines.

Some copies of the book are still available. Please check my web site (http://www.moss-fritch.com/huyck_forum1.htm) for specifics.

Sylvia died Sunday (Jan. 22, 2006).
I was just notified by her family that Sylvia died today. She was 93 last year.

Sylvia was a friend and long time correspondent (since 1970) and will be missed.

She contributed much to Huyck research with her book "Huycks in America."

Sincerely,

Denise L.
Re: Bella May (Isabella) Webber Huycke b.1885 Esquesing, Ontario

Well Jason, I wish I knew who she married! I got her married name from her father's 1918 will. The will also said that she lived in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Her parents were William Webber(b.1845 Devon) and Isabella Morrison(born around 1853 Esquesing I believe) who were married in 1874 in Esquesing. She had two sisters who were also out in Sask. - Florence Webber Goodheart and Margaret Webber Shaw.
I haven't yet been able to trace the marriage of Bella May Webber to Huycke - I am not sure if it was in Ontario or Saskatchewan. I notice your last name is Huycke! Do you think there is a connection? Maybe this will help - let me know.....Gina
