I am trying to determine what happened to D. F. Hylton who married Cynthia Burnett Dugger in McDowell, WV on 6 Oct 1895.

Did he die or was there a divorce or maybe he just deserted?

I have seen the marriage certificate on line for Cynthia Dugger and Daniel(?) Hylton (also listed as D. F. Hylton)
He is listed as born in Floyd, Va, aged 41, widower, Occupation Laborer.
Cynthia is listed as born in Tazewell, Va, aged 25, widow.

However, in the 1900 Census, Cynthia Hylton is living with her mother (spelled Burnette, S. D. and shown as head)and daughter(Anna) in Mercer Co., WV.

Cynthia is listed as being married for 5 years. But there is no husband listed with them.

There is a D. F. Hylton in the Fayette Co., WV in the 1900 Census married to Mary E. for 1 year.

This D. F. Hylton's estimated age is 45 (born Nov. 1854), Occupation is Coal Miner.

The next question is:

Is D. F. Hylton really Darius Franklin Hylton and the name on the Dugger-Hylton Marriage Certificate has been mis-interpreted due to the style of handwriting?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Do you suppose there were two Susannah Hyltons - one the daughter of George Hylton / Tabitha Green and the other the daughter of Elijah Hylton / Susannah Slusher?

I found some very old e-mails that I'd tranferred from a prior e-mail account, when I moved 2 years ago. In reviewing these, I discovered that I'd never responded to your post. Am very sorry! Anyways, I've been working on other lines and haven't researched this one further. Interesting that another responded to my post indicating that Susannah Hylton had been married to Mark Howell, perhaps a brother to David Howell and that her parents were George Hylton / Tabitha Green and not Elijah Hylton and Susannah Slusher. Perhaps you've had some luck resolving this in the interim. I'll add this to my research log. I've also been corresponding with a distant Howell cousin that I "met" after doing DNA tests. I'll see, if he has any information. Again, sorry for not responding sooner.

Sorry Gritty50. I don't seem to be of any help. I do not recognize any of your Hylton ancestors that you listed. Also, Hathaway does not appear anywhere in any branch of my family (with the obvious exception of my great grandfather). I have no idea where the name came from for him. It is interesting that your ... what?? ...gr-gr-grandmother? was also named Hathaway and also lived in Floyd Co. at a similar time period.

Even though I am unable to help this time, maybe next time we can find a match.

I'm not sure if you got my message. You message interests me because I am tracing back my maternal grandmother's father, William Wallace Hylton (born in Floyd County, Virginia) to a John L. Hylton that was married to a Salome Barnhart. The only info on John (possibly Lewis) Hylton was father/Henry and mother/Sarah. What really struck me was that my grandmother's name is Virginia Hathaway Hylton and I'm wondering if there is a connection since that's a very odd middle name...please reply if you have any info....

Ben, I am looking for info on my mother's mother's side. My grandmother's father, born in Virginia was William Wallace Hylton. He had one brother, Charles Wesley and a half-brother, Josiah David. William's father John L (Lewis) Hylton (born 1827/29?) and (mother of my grgrandfather), Salome Barnhart lived in Floyd County, Virginia. I can find Salome's lineage but all I can find on John L. is possibly Henry & Sarah Hylton. What struck me about your post was that my grandmother's name was Virginia Hathaway Hylton and I couldn't understand where that odd middle name came from. Thought that there might be a connect.. Where did your gr grandfather's name come from?

I'm looking for any information on Sarah Hylton Helton. Born 1779 in Grayson County, Va. She married Elisha Helton (1769-1824) in 1800 in Grayson County, Va. She died in 1820 in Montgomery County, Va. Their son Joshua Helton (1801-1874) is the connection to my family tree. Thanks for any clues.

I have been going through some old family records and came across the name Aaron Hylton. He was my greatgrandmothers half brother. Born July 11, 1888 and died Oct 27, 1962. Buried at Creasey Chapel Methodist Church. I think that is in Patrick County Va, but I am not sure.
I do not know anything else about him. Could it be the same Aaron Hylton?

Hi, I could have found the wrong Lula Mae, but was your Lula Mae married (forgot his name) and had several children. Some of which were Stella, Thelma, Mary, William, Sarah, and Carl. Carl was my grandfather and I've forgotten the other children's name. If we are talking about the same Lula Mae, was she buried in Newtonia, Mo or Granby, Mo? My mom is trying to find out where is she is buried. Thank you.

Silas' grandparents are Benjamin Hylton 1854-1941
and Mary Elizabeth Wade 1860-1919

My Great Grandparents. My Grandfather was Posey's youngest brother Samuel Wade Hylton, I remember my Dad talking about visiting Silas.

This may be old info to you. and please verify, as I have retrieved the information 2nd hand.

Im looking for the children of Mylinda Hylton (Hall). She had a brother named Robert Hylton of Ft.Pierce Florida. I am searching for photos of my grandfather that they may have. My search has lead me to the Rockhouse Ky area. Ive located uncles and aunts but they could not help me in my search for Mylinda or Roberts kids. Mylinda's moms name was Virginia Slone (Parsons) who died in 1988 in Ft. Pierce Florida. Her husband was my grandfather, John Parsons or Bascom Parsons. Mylinda and Robert are both deceased. My ancestor Archelaus Hylton is a brother to Susannah. I would like to correspond with you concerning that family. In particular, I wonder if you know the correct mother of Susannah? I think Elijah married Susannah Slusher but I don't have solid proof.

LOL So are what are we to each other?I am Martha Jane Hylton Lancasters granddaughter.My Mom is Goldie Jane Lancaster and so forth.Well this is really very wonderful,to bad I cannot get anywhere with the other side of my family.Nice to meet you cousin???My name is Lori by the way and I was born a KOHAL.I was told by my great aunt Ruby Hylton that when Jacob and Louisa left west virginia in a cattle car with their livestock that Louisa was preggers with my grandma Martha and when they arrived in Oregon and stepped off the train car that the snow was up to the bellies of their horses.My Mom Goldie did at one time have a picture of the cabin they built and where Martha was born before it got so old it fell.My grandfather Albert Stephen Lancaster was Martha's 2nd marriage,the 1st husband was BOYER and they had 2 children both males.My mother did do a great deal of the Lancaster side and got as far back as England.The sad part is that for whatever reason (no one will tell me and mom died with it)my grandfather in 1947 sighned my grandmother Martha into the Oregon State Hospitol and divorced her,at that time my mom was 6 years old.Martha was finally released the year I was born in 1967.I never even met Martha until I was about 9.I still have the faintest idea why!!At one time there was talk of a mental illness and she was taking medication for it.And I know that Simmie Oliver Hylton did time in prison,I have no idea why.I have a picture of the Hylton family reunion here in Oregon.It has Martha's sister Ruby in it,and all her kids and such.There are more but I cannot remember all who is in it. Just wondering if your Hyltons are any relation to mine? Jacob Edward Hylton B:24 Sept. 1866 in Summers,W VA. he married Louisa Price 13 Dec 1888 in Mercer,W Va. They are in the 1900 cencus for Shady Spring,Raleigh,W Va. and after that Jacob and Loisa pack up their kids (9) I believe and ride a cattle train car to Potwaka Ridge,Oregon (while she was pregnant with muy Grandmother Martha Jane Hylton B:13 Apr 1910 in Potwaka Ridge,Oregon.These siblings of Martha were all born in West Virgina Floyd Oscar,Marjorie Melissa,Alexander,and Jasper allbefore 1910.
