Cookie,

I am curioius if your Hyson lineage may be linked in some way to me. My grandfathers (John J Davis) sister (Margaret Davis approx B. 1908) married a Hyson, unknown first name. Margaret and her husband lived in Baltimore and owned some type of bottling cap company. Apparently, Margaret and her husband were well off.

Mark Davis

I noticed that you had James P. Hyson married to Pearl Springer, but Pearl was married to Grover Cleveland James Hyson. Grover's parents are Benjamin Franklin Hyson Jr. and Mary C. Lamberson (Indian). Rufus Hyson was a brother of Grover, Rufus was born in 1896, and he wife was Sarah Effie Hyson. I'm not finding anything for James P. unless Grover went by his 2nd middle name, but don't know what the "P" stands for.
Linda Henderson

Hi Brian,
My husband Ken is the one dragging his feet. He only works 62 hours a week with the department of corrections and hasn't had a spare moment in years. I'm really into my family's genealogy and thought it would be fun to look up his grandmother and grandfather Effie and Rufus, and found your messages. Ken has Effie's family Bible, but there is no information in it whatsoever. He searched it out hoping that she may know where is blood-father is (O'Neal), but there was absolutely nothing. He has Rufus's Bible as well, and nothing again. Ken has tried to get information from the daughter-in-law of Cave and Myrtle Sanford (Myrtle being Effie's sister) as she was into the family tree quite extensively, but we have never received anything from her either, and Ken can't even remember her first name, but she was married to Bruce Sanford, and he was quite a bit older than Ken. Please feel free to correspond. I'll try and find what Ken does have. My name is Linda Henderson, or contact Ken through hendersons@cox.net. He opens up his email about once a week, whereas I do mine most everyday.

I'm so pleased to be speaking to you. Sarah Hyson was my Great Grandmother, although from what I could gather she divorced my great grandfather taking her younger son Raymond with her and leaving the older son William behind. No one in my family knows much about her at all. I'd be very interested if you have any stories or info you could share about your family, pictures of Sarah or Raymond would be nice, too. I'm trying to add as much detail as I can to my family tree. I'll be happy to share anything your interested in as well.

Yours,

Nichole Ward

Thanks for the information! Squire Newton "Bud" Hyson is my g-g-g-grandfather. I haven't found the date of his death but I know it was after 23 Feb 1912. I have a signed depostion from him on the before mentioned date. Bud and Johanna Smith Hyson were never divorced, however they both re-married. I also have a copy of Johanna's death certificate. I have more information and I can be contacted at hitsking@aol.com.

Robert B. Hyson

Robert B. Hyson, son of John and Margaret Hyson, natives of York County, was born December 28, 1854, in Hopewell Township, this county. He remained with his parents on the homestead until 1870; then spent about five years in Ohio; returned to Pennsylvania in 1874, when he engaged in general merchandising business at Mount Pleasant, Penn., where he remained three years. He then came to Gatchellville in 1879, and has since remained there. He was married in 1880. Mr. Hyson is at present justice of the peace of Fawn Township. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church at Centre, and it may well be said stands second to none in the rank of business men of southern York County.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

He was born in Washington DC to George Washington Hyson and Hedwig Delphine Howard in abt 1912. His sister Sarah R Hyson was 2 years older than he and she married a man named William Henry Gable Ward of Maryland. She had 2 children William H. in 1924 and Raymond in 1926. By 1930 she and Raymond had moved to Virginia and were living with her mother and brother. I would love to know the story of my grandfather's brother Raymond as well.
Which Mehans are you looking for? My dad claims that his family came from Alsace and Lorraine in France/Germany. Unfortunately, his dad apparently never talked about the family much, and I can't find anything back before my Dad's dad, who was John P. Mehan. Dad doesn't even know his grandmother's name! He had an uncle, Thomas Oliver Mehan, who worked for Victor Comptometer and Remington Rand in the 1920s and '30s, designing adding machines. He is purported to have several patents. His son lived in Ft Worth TX as recently as 1990, but I was raising children at the time and never got around to contacting him; now he is no longer listed in the phone book, so he may have passed on. I anyone knows anything about my family, please contact me! I have a boatload of first cousins, and almost no history at all...!

I was wandering about more info about your Charles Hyson. I have a Charlie Hyson that was born May 1881. Please write back so I know if this is a match with yours. Thanks. Brian
