Hello Len

My name is Anthony Migliaccio. My father too is from Panza d'Ischia. He was born in Philadelphia in 1910 and returned to 'Ischia as an infant only to return to America in 1925. His mother Restituta Iacono was married to Antonio Migliaccio in 1909 in Philadelphia. Restituta was related to the late reverand Leonardo Iacono who I believe has passed away witin the last several years. Father Leonard's English was poor and my Italian is worse. Father Leonardo if we are referring to the same man was at a parish in Bethlehem PA in the 1960's and 1970's I remember him telling us about his home being donated to his order. I am trying to locate my father's sister Rosa Migliaccio D'abundo's family who have always lived in Ischia. With my aunt and Uncle most likely passed away at this time I am trying to make contact with my cousins who are most likely in their 60's or perhas 70's. I had a sister who passed away in 2005 and many of our family's communication papers were lost after her passing especially addresses and contacts in Panza. I amy trying to put together a timeline and family line for my family to understand their heritage. If you wish you can contact me directly at trackbolt@yahoo.com I have a family tree under construction on Ancestry.com "Aniello Migliaccio Family Tree"

My sincere greetings and appreciation

Anthony F.

My name is Anthony Migliaccio. My Father was Aniello 1910-1982. His family originated from Ponza Ischia, Italy. My father was born in Philadelphia and returned to Italy as an infant. He returned to America in 1925 and resided in Ocean City NJ until moving to Washington DC in 1940. He remained there until he died. He spoke little of his family and there is little to go on.
Father Iacono served a Catholic parish in Bethlehem PA in the US. Fr. Leonardo as we called him was a cousin, nephew or some relation to us. He always had news of current events in Ponza when he came to Washington to see my father.
I am searching information of my father's relationship with Father Leonard and my father's Sister Rosa'a family back in Ponza. The name D'Abundo is closely tied to our line of Migliaccio's and I believe her married name may be D'Abundo.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely
Anthony F. Migliaccio

My grandmother's maiden name was Rosa Iacono. She pronounced it as you mentioned with the emphasis on the "ah". She was born in Lipari, provence of Messina, Sicily in 1894. Her parents were Antonino Iacono and Giiusseppa (Marino)Iacono.
If anyone knows anything about this "branch" of the Iaconos, would love to hear from you.
Hello my name is Leonard Iacono - from West CHester PA, originally from Philadelphia. I have just returned from Ischia. In fact since you posted this in April of 2005 this is my second trip. I was there in July of '05. I am quite certain that I am related to your husband. While there this time I mad a couple of trips the Ufficio d'Anagrafe in Forio. My grandfather was Salvatore Vincenzo Maria Iacono born in April of 1886 at Serrara. His father was Francesco Paolo Iacono born 3 Jan 1853 at via Casa Mattera in Panza. Francesco P's parents were Aniello Iacono
(b 1802) and Rosa Impagliazzo (b 1806). They had another son Leonardo Maria Filomeno Iacono born in 1838. I was not aware of him until this visit. I found his marriage notice from 1865, which states that on the 23rd of December in 1865 he married Maria Giovannina Filomena Guarracino, age 25, the daughter of Mattia Guarracino and Maria Rosa Polito. Her parents were both still alive in 1865 as were his. Giovannina is often translated to Jennie (I know because that is the case with my maternal grandmother). Leonardo and Giovannina had both been born in Panza. I was in and have pictures of the house Leonardo was born in. It was last in the hands of a priest of the same name Leonardo Iacono, who I met when I was about 15 (ca 1963). It is now a retreat house that he left to his order the Vincentians.
Please contact me as I am sure we are related and have more info.

Leonard "Len" Iacono
1324 Mary Jane Lane
West Chester, PA 19380
cell: 610-329-2850
len.iacono@century21.com
www.leniacono.com
leniacono@hotmail.com
I have found some of my notes. You could write to the L'Ufficiale d'Anagrfe or the Officio dei Registri du Stato Civile (who would have the birth, death and marriage records for each comune). There are 6 comunes on Ischia: Barono d'Ischia; Ischia Porto; Casamicciola; Forio; Serrana Fontana; and Lacco Ameno.
Give as much information as you have including dates of birth, marriage etc. If you can write in Italian that can help. An alternative is to write to the regional office in Naples but I assume they had more damage in the war and may not have all the records.
The letters would be addressed to the office with the comune name to Isola d'Ischia, Golfo Napoli, Prov. di Napoli, Italia. Good luck, John

I had been mislead by my wife's uncle to understand that her Iacono family was from Ischia and spent 15 years researching each of the communes of the island until I had excluded every possible family. I then found the family on the island of Lipari. I do not know if I can access any of my old Ischia notes. Good luck.
John Keohane (Paterali)

Fr Leonardo Iacono visited my house the first day he arrived in America back in the 1960s. In 2005 I visited Ischia and was staying with a cousin in Panza. When I told his neighbor, Anna Impagliazzo, the story of Fr Leonardo she grabbed a key from a hookk n her kitchen, took me accross the street and I found myself in his house 40 some years after he had been in my house in Philadelphia. Father had passed severla years before that and I visted his grave in Panza. His father's name was Salvatore Iacono.
I found out recently that my great-grandfather Francesco Paolo Iacono was born in that same house in Panza. Francesco Paolo's son was also Salvatore, my grandfather (not the same Salvatore) There's no doubt in my mind that we are related. I'll soon have access to the vital records for the island and will know that and much more

Leonard Iacono
leniacono@hotmail.com

Hello, Your post is from many years ago, but I am curious to know what you found out about your Iacono ancestors from Lipari. My ancestors also are from Lipari. My great-grandmother was Angela Iacono, and I believe she had brothers, Joseph (Giuseppe) and Salvatore. Their were probably other siblings. Their parents were Salvatore Iacono and Rosa Biviano (? I believe). I only began my search recently. If you can help me, please respond. -Mary

Carol, I know you need some time, but I thought you should know that, according to my mother, Angie Labatto was the daughter of my great-grandmother, Angela Iacono's, brother. Angie and Dan were my mother's cousins and her family visited them in Brooklyn. My mother said they had two children, Danny and Marie. I'm looking forward to communicating with you. -Mary

Hi Mary, We also have Iacono/Labbato ties. My husbands' Aunt Angie (Iacono) married Daniel Labbato in Brooklyn. I need to get my thoughts and info connected and get back to you again. I've been out of town the past week and still playing catch up on everything, so forgive me. I have so many ancestors in my head I can't think straight and recently have had about 3 new contacts pop up, so I have my work cut out for me! Promise will be back to you soon.

Carol

Carol, My great-grandmother, Angela (Angelina) Iacono had a brother, Joseph (Giuseppe). I think there was another brother named Salvatore. I have no idea what her brother's children's names might have been. I believe my great-grandmother's family came from Lipari and first settled in Pennsylvania and then in Brooklyn. I was told she was in an arranged marriage to an older man, Federico Maio, who later changed his name to Frederick Mayo. If I knew more about Joseph, I might be able to put some more pieces together. I believe the Iaconos had other relatives with the name Labatto, also in Brooklyn. Thanks, Mary

Carol, I bet they are connected, too. Unfortunately for me, I know nothing except what I told you...I have information from my grandmother and mother, and obtained more information from Ellis Island boat manifests...I really don't even know how to find information from before they arrived in the U.S. Maybe if I can find names of other relatives on the boat manifests and share them with you, we can find a connection. I'm having a lot of difficulty with my searches, mainly because there are so many misspellings of names, either on the manifests or in the transcriptions. Also, some of it is illegible. Thank you for your correspondence. -Mary

His family names from Lipari include Iacono of course, Biviano, Ziino, primarily. Further back there are others as well, but does look that all are tied to the island of Lipari, most in the town of Lipari. I've been told there were two lines of Iaconos, not connected, but honestly I find it hard to believe, small island, not connected??? I would bet if you dig deep enough they are.

Carol Iacona

Most of my family also is from Lipari, Sicily, arrived at Ellis Island in the early 1900's and settled in Brooklyn, as well. Some of them lived in Hazleton, Pa. first. The surnames I mentioned are from both my maternal and paternal sides of the family. My maternal great-grandmother was Angela (or Angelina) Iacono, from Lipari, and she arrived in 1900 with her brothers, Francesco and Giuseppe. Their surnames were transcribed incorrectly as "Tacono" from the Ellis Island manifest. Who are your husband's relatives?

My great-grandmother's name was Angelina Iacono (born in 1876 in Italy). Her father's name was Salvatore Iacono (born in 1845 in Tipario, Sicily, Italy), and she was married to Giovanni (John) Tartaro. My grandfather had nephews with the last name, Casamento. Angelina and John (my great-grandparents) had nine children-Angelo, Salvatore, Bartolomeo (Walter), Mary, Assunta (Sue), Anna (my grandmother), Rose, Frank, and Joseph. Angelo was born in Italy and the rest of the children were born in either Pa. or Brooklyn, NY. If anyone thinks they are related or know anything about any of these people, please respond. Thank you!

Hi,
You may no longer need this info as your post is old but I just saw it. I have been doing research in Ragusa on my Fidone ancestors and also my cousins' Bracchita ancestors and have come across your Iacono name in Ragusa. There are many on the LDS microfilms I have been using from the 1800's. Have you tried this source? I have had a lot of luck as my ancestors were in Ragusa and Scicli (a small town outside of Ragusa).

No my nanna died years ago and you even have her death date in your tree which is correct.

My grandparents are Ferrucio Lucchini and Rosetta Iacono.
Re: Looking for Iaconos from Ragusa, Italy

I know a Donna Occhipinti. Her ggrandmother was Concetta Mazza married to Guiseppe Mazza. They were first cousins. Guiseppe Mazza was my grandmother's brother. My grandmother also named Concetta Mazza married Rosario Iacono, they used to call him Salvatore. His brothers were Carmelo, John and Salvatore. They all came from Ragusa. So Donna becomes a distant relative to me. She even had pictures of my aunt and uncles. If you need more info let me know.

saw your message, but other than IACONO none of the other names connect. My husband's family came from Lipari early 1900's to Brooklyn. Giuseppe Iacono/Angelina (Ziino). If you can connect at all, e-mail me at cmi51@aol.com.

Carol Iacona

HELP…HELP…I am seriously interested in anyone who has knowledge of the surnames of RAVESI, BONGIORNO, PILUSO and LO SCHIAVO from the Lipari Islands.
Francesco Ravesi born circa 1808 married Francesca BONGIORNO. One of their sons was Francesco Ravesi born 1840 married 24 Jan 1869 Maria PILUSO born 1846. One
of their sons married Francesco Ravesi born 21 Nov 1870 married 31 Jan 1895 Marianna Lo SCHIAVO born 17 Feb 1872 died 13 Mar 1940.
Other surnames that are predominate in my family are: Cincotta, Natoli, Merlino, Virgona, Merleto, Lauricella, Mandile, Taranto, Spinella, Porelli, Conti, Iacono, Bonfante, Mollicca, Casamento, etc. All from the Lipari Islands.
My mother, Mary Loschiavo, and I were American born, but my father, Francesco Ravesi, and grandparents were from Canneto. My father was a member and past Grand Marshall of the Brooklyn Congresso di St. Bartolomeo. I would be very grateful for any information no matter how minute. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome you to contact me at jjravese@sbcglobal.net

Hi Carol- Good to hear from you- I think you are right -I don't think we do connect- I was born in Manhaten and moved to Brooklyn when I was 10- I Lived mostly in Bensonhurst- My Mom (Maiden Name Iacono) was born in Pachino. My Aunt & her family eventually moved to Mass. because of the job markets. However, my Mom & Dad stayed in N.Y. with our family.
My Husband & I relocated to Salt Lake City Utah in 1982, where we currently reside. We transferred here because of our jobs. Stay in touch if you would like- Rose

Rosemarie, I believe my in-laws were from Lipari, island off of Sicily. I saw your other messages from some time ago, what part of Brooklyn are you from? My husband grew up in Bay Ridge, moved to NJ when he was about 15. Looking at your other messages, don't think we connect, but always nice to hear from other Iaconos! Have a great day.

Carol Iacona
