Barbara, Yes, we are first cousins. My mother was Pook's oldest sister, Laura. Pook was born on my brother's fourth birthday (October 2) My mother was pregnant with her third child when her mother reveaked that she too was oregnant, I have some beautuful pictures of Pook at about 20 years old. The information you asked about is on Ancestry.com.. There are census records and marriage license for both marriages and a picture of Anderson W. Ike's tombstone and a picture of him with his four youngest children. My grandmother, Maggie Edith Ike Cox is the next to the youngest child.
You must be a direct decendant of Anderson Ike and Martha since you bear his name. I don't know the names of any of the children. My grandmother told me about her sister, Marrian dying of small pox on what would have been her wedding day and being buried in her wedding dress. Another daughter died the same day. She was only 12 and I can't remember her name. I wish I had paid more attention when grandma told me stores.

Barbara, I remember when you were born! A girl after all those boys. Maggie Cox was my grandmother, too and she and grandpa lived up the road from us when I was a child. By the time you came along, they had moved many times and grandpa was in a nursing home. Grandma gave birth to you Dad when she was 49 years old. I have a picture of the Cox family - Grandpa and Grandma with all eight children. Grandma is holding Pook in her arms and her hair is white.
My mother, Laura Cox Jones, was pregnant with her third child and was complaining bitterly to Grandma. Grandma asked her, "Sister, when is your time?" My mother answered that she was due the first of November. Grandma told her that she was due a month earlier. My Mom said that was her easiest pregnancy because she never thought about herself, but worried about her poor mother. In due time, you Dad was born on October 2nd (which happened to be my brother, Doyle's fourth birthday) and my sister, Dee was born on November 2.

I would very much like to know who the children of Anderson Ike and Hannah Bennett(Norton) Ike are. I know the last three are Glendora Ike Judy, Maggie Edith Ike Cox and Laura Ike Wright. I am a direct decendant of Maggie Edith Cox. I would also like to know the names of the children of Anderson Ike and Martha Ike. Maggie Ike Cox was my grandmother, Laura Cox Jones was my mother. She was the oldest daughter of Bert and Maggie. I actually have their death certificates. I grew up living very close to Grandma and Grandpa. Leavitt Cox (known as Ham) was the oldest, then my Mom, then Leah Cox Downing, Loyd Peter Cox (known as Pete), Lester Paul Cox (known as Snook), Lucille Cox Kingery, Loma Cox Kingery (the two sisters married brothers) and Loyal Franklin Cox (known as Pook). He was born when Grandma was 49.

I sm slso a granddaughter. I grew up in Indiana just down the road from Grandma. Her given name is Margaret Edith but she insisted her name was Maggie. I have a copy of her death certificate. She was born on 11 February 1882. I have many pictures of her through the years.

William Ike

I am looking for any information on William Ike who was killed in an Indian uprising in 1866 around Kearney, Nebraska. His spouses name was Barbara and a child named Katherine or Katie. William supposedly was born in 1840 but I cannot verify the date or location.

My great great grandfather was Anderson W Ike who I think was born in July of 1833 around the state line of Indiana and Illinois near Vigo County, IN or Edgar County, IL. My father's cousin Robert C. Ike said that Anderson's parents were Paul Ike and Louisa Southard, but his only source for the information was with stories from his grandmother Amanda Cox Ike. She was the wife of my great grandfather William Anderson Ike. Anderson W. Ike died in June 1901 and is buried in Shirley Cemetery in Indiana near the state line.

Do you have another source to link Paul and Louisa Ike to Anderson W. Ike? I have found the Ike surname in Pennsylvania and Ohio Census records. Can you link to any of these people to the Ike surnames in Indiana and Illinois?

I show no death date or place. However, Grace d. 9-11-1916 at NJ. Their 7 children all b. in NJ.

Just a hunch, could you try Mt. Olive Union Cem. Mt Olive, NJ.? Looking at family sheets and I see this cem. mentioned. Hope I have helped at least in a small way, Duane

John Ike (1794-1882)

Looking for info on Father, siblings, Mother or other. John is buried in Lake View Cemetary (Lot 462) Interlaken, Seneca, NY and is thought to have been born near Wilkesbarre, PA. He is most likely the John Ike enumerated in the 1830 census for Northhampton Co. Williams Twp, PA. His family composition matches except for a child under 5 and there is info that his family came from around Wilkesbarre, PA. Any other info on him would be appreciated.Ike

You replied via the contact feature to my email and I did receive that message.And, I believe that reply was to an old post of yours regarding the demise of Elsie/Elsa/Elsey Kishpaugh Ike in a powder plant explosion which is not the case. The explosion I had heard about from my mother and grandmother (Elsie Ike Davenport b 1891), who had first hand knowledge of this (terrible stories actually)was in 1940. While researching this I found an earlier, less serious, explosion had occured in 1917. Here is a link to comprehensive information/history of Hercules powder which includes a memorial list of all persons who were killed in both explosions which includes no women, much less any of our relatives.

My post (above) contains an error. It is in the WHITHAM biography, not WHITNEY where the Kishpaugh name is misquoted as Kaussbh. This biography can be found at the Morris NJ Genealogical site which is here:

This man was legendary and spawned MANY family tales. He owned the first automobile in Dover and was killed in the first car accident. His wife Laura C Ike Whitham died just before my birth and I am her namesake (saved me from bein named Elsie, her middle name was Capitiola, my mother saved me from that and I got Laura Ann instead. I was born in 1945, so, we are contemporary cousins of some kind. Laura and Richard Whitham had one daughter.....another Elsie, my second cousin, who was born the same year as my grandmother, Elsie Ike Davenport. They were close while growing up. Elsie Whitham married late (to Oren Northey)and had no children. She was like a second grandmother to me and died young, in 1963-1964 when I was a college freshman.

It gives Issac's place of burial as Presbyterian Cemetery, Succassuna, Morris, New Jersey.The index person on this page is my father, Howard S Davenport Jr, 1921-1987. I do, however, know there are Kishpaughs buried at Locust Hill, when I was last in Dover, spring of 1983, I transcribed tombstones that my aunt, Irene Davenport Ely, told me were relatives. I still have that transcription and was planning on emailing you when I manage to dig it out, I do know where it is.

I DO think I have perhaps solved at least part of the problem of my grandfather's (Howard Searing Davenport Sr) parentage. He appears in census data first in 1900 as an 8 yo stepchild in the household of James and Mary Dugan in Morris County, with elder siblings Stella and Jennie. He is still living in this household at the time of the 1910 census. Using the presumed maiden name of Searing I find a Mary Searing,DOB 1864, the same as Mary Dugan, father is Lewis Searing. A search of the 1880 census yields a Stiles Davenport born @ 1856 with a wife, Mary b 1864 (he is 24, she is 17).Stiles appears for the first time in the 1870 census as a single 15 yo living as a boarder, so, so far, I have no parents for him. In the 1880 census, Stiles and Mary have a son, 8 months, who does not appear as a child/stepchild in the Dugan household. He may have left home as the eldest Dugan stepchild, Jennie, is 18 in the 1900 census. Mary and James Dugan appear again in 1910 with one stepchild, Howard (my presumed grandfather)still in the household, and continue through the 1930 census. I did find, in the 1880 death index, a Charles Davenport, dead of "brain fever" @ July 1979 at age 3y. The dates are discrepant,Mary and Stiles' child would have been born in 1879, but I've found that these records, including the census, often have inaccuracies as they were transcribed verbally and literacy then was not what it was now.

So, that is where I'm at now. I've sent off for my grandfather's SS-5 and hoping he used his biological father's name and not his stepfather's.

Anyway, there's an update. I hope it is helpful to you and others who frequent this board.

Expect an email from "cousin Laura". If it takes more than I'm hoping to find the Locust Hill tombstone inscription, I'll email just to give you my direct contact information.

This would be my great grandmother, Elsie M Kishpaugh Ike (from Eike)married to Isaac A (Isade A)Ike, 1824-1906.

Their daughter, my grandmother, was also Elsie (Ann) Ike, 1891-1983, married to Howard Searing Davenport.

The Kishpaugh name was misspelled, perhaps intentionally, in the Whitney biography (Richard Whitney who married Laura C Ike, sister to my grandmother) as Kaussbh, but it is Kishpaugh taken from her tombstone in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover, New Jersey.

The powder plant explosion took place much later, in the early 1940'S and that Elsie M Kishpaugh Ike was not killed in it. At the time my mother was living with my paternal grandparents while my father served overseas in WWII, so this was something I heard of directly from both my mother and my paternal grandparents.

Looking for information on Edward Lucas (b. 1872 in NJ) who married Grace Ike (1877-1916 in New Jersey). Thery lived in Morris and Somerset County, NJ. The 1930 census lists him as widowed and living in Bernardsvillw with a daughter Caroline. They had children: Francis who moved to Mass.; Herbert C. who moved to NY; Mary Helen who married Alexander Mayer; Nellie; Grace; Fred and Caroline. Any help would be appreciated on this family.
