I found Joshua listed under Hancock on the 1840 census.
However, if you look at the entire census, you will see that prior to the Hancock listing is the town of Cornwall, VT. This may be a census taker error and the first part the page may actually have been Cornwall people.

Ashel Ingalls was "of Cornwall" at the time of his marriage to Lucinda Conley.

Next week I will go to Cornwall and take a look at the town records to see if there is any sign of Joshua.

Trying to confirm that

Samuel J. Ingalls
b. 1819 NY (according to 1850 IN census)
m. Mariah Nutting 1843
d. 1865 Koscisuko County, IN

is the son of

Benjamin Ingalls
b. 1771 Rehoboth, MA (according to Burleigh)
m. Sally Thomas
m. Margery Cass
d. Ellisburg, NY 1829

Many trees show this relationship but, none I've found to-date are sourced. Burleigh stops at Benjamin. I am a direct descendant of Samuel and am willing to share the line.

Can anyone point me to documentation that proves above relationship?

Thanks in advance -

Matt

Re: Eve (Ingalls) Alger

Just in case someone out there has not already made the connection after all this time -- Philo and Thankful Wilkinson are in McHenry Co. IL in 1880. Just across the state line is Walworth Co. WI, home of Frank Ingalls. Several sources, including 1880 census, show Philo and Thankful with 5 children: Eva, Addie, Fid(elia), William and Charles. Never any indication Fidelia is not their biological child.

Several posted family trees show Fidelia as dying 1892. WI Deaths, 1820-1907 shows a "Mrs. Frank Ingalls" who died in Rock Co. WI 15 Oct 1892. Is this Fidelia?

William, Charles and Eva all ended up in California. See postings on Wilkinson Board, this site. Also check CA Death Index (1940-1997 this site).

History of McHenry Co. IL (available this site) has bio of Philo Wilkinson. Fidelia is included as one of his children. Also shows Philo and Thankful both buried in California.

No IL Marriage indexed for any variation of Ingalls and Wilkinson. There is a listing for Frank Ingalls and Laura E. Martin 31 Jan 1885 Cook Co., license no. 228972. Is this Fidelia's widower Frank Ingalls? (see http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html)

Eva Ingalls' husband Clarence Wells Alger was born in Chicago in Mar 1887. Alger was his mother's maiden name; her husband had been in MI State Prison, Jackson Co. MI, since 1880, was not released until several years after Wells' birth. All his siblings used the surname Alger after their father's conviction. No way to confirm Wells' biological father. Wells himself was graduate of US Naval Academy 1910 and in 1910 was with Marine Corps in the Philippines.

That's it!
tutubonnie/at/gmail.com
Re: Susanna Ingalls Hampton Falls, NH

By coincidence, I was just looking further for Susanna's parents in the History of Hampton Falls. A clue may be the name Peter Ingalls, on a list of soldiers who went to Louisburg from H. Falls.
The only child of William and Susannah that I know about is my ancestor Phineas Swain. NH Vital Records, death idex has Phineas "d. Northwood, NH, 21 August, 1840, age 77 years and 10 months, son of William born in Hampton". He is buried in East Northwood Cemetery. Phineas and Jane Carr were married 19 Jan 1784 in Epping, NH (NHVR).
I need to do more research on this family.
Joseph N. Ingalls, Maine, 1840's

I have no connection to any of these families. This appeared in the July 13, 1848 issue of the Lime Rock Gazette (Rockland, Maine):

“LOSS OF THE BRIG ANGELINE. The feeling of our community have been for some months past deeply interested in relation to the fate of the Brig Angeline of this port, and that of her captain and crew.

The Angeline (Capt. Ham) sailed from Bath on the 2d of February last, and since that time, until within a few days ago, nothing had been heard from her that could give a clue to her fate, except that a brig resembling her had been seen in distress. The friends of the captain and crew had given them up, when a week or two since a report came in the shipping lists of the Boston papers that the Angeline had been fallen in with by the Danish schooner Estaven, which took off the captain and crew and carried them into Ensenada, in Buenos Ayres. On Friday morning last, letters were received from the Captain, giving the particulars of the loss of the brig, and conveying the sorrowful news of the loss of one of the crew, Mr. George Nye, of Hallowell, and the pleasing news of the safety of all the rest. The captain states that they had severe gales during the whole week after they left here, and that at about 2 P.M. of the Sunday following the brig was struck by a squall and thrown on her beam-ends, completely down, her mast in the water. When she went over, Capt. Ham was thrown overboard, but succeeded in regaining the wreck, and in cutting the rigging, when the masts and bow spirit went by the board. The captain and crew then betook themselves to the bitts and pumps, where they remained, with but little to eat and the sea breaking over them the most of the time, until the next Sunday when they were taken off by the Estaven.

The Angeline was owned by Mr. Joseph N. Ingalls, of this city. She was 195 tons, burthen, built in 1831, and thoroughly repaired just previous to her last voyage. She was not insured. There was, however, $1600 insured on the cargo and $500 on the freight, at the Hartford Protection Officer.

The names of her officers and crew are as follows: Nelson Ham, Captain; John T. Ham, Mat; Robert Libbey, Wm. Dawes, George H. Nye, Joseph A. Kenney, Samuel M. Blanchard and William Folsom, seamen.

Mr. Nye was lost when the brig went over. He was a fine young man – one whom we had known from boyhood, and whose loss will be lamented by many of his young associates, to whom his kind and winning disposition had endeared him, as well as by a mother and sister, who have thus been deprived of the society of one whom they tenderly loved. What must make the blow more severe to them is, that they had been led to suppose, by the first news, after having given him up for lost, that he had been rescued, (Northern Tribune)”
Your Aaron Ingalls b: 1802 was the son of Samuel Worthen Ingalls b:1771 and Margaret Delano b:1773. Margaret was the daughter of Jonathan Delano b: 1735 and Anna Parker Ladd, Jonathan was the son of Jabez Delano b; 1708 and Prudence Hibbard. Jabez was the son of Jonathan Delano b: 1680 and Amy Allen. Jonathan Jr was the son of Jonathan Delano b: 1647 and Mercy Warren. Jonathan b: 1647 was the brother to Thomas Delano b: 1642. FDR.s mother was Sarah Delano. I don't have FDR's lineage at my finger tips, but that's how our Ingalls/Delano line comes together. If you email me at User103572@aol.com I can help you better with our lineage.

Rich

Franklin Delano Roosevelt comes from Thomas Delano b; 1641 son of Phillip Delano and Hester Dewsbury. We come from Jonathan Delano b: 1647 a younger brother to Thomas Delano. This Jonathan married Mercy Warren daughter of Nathaniel Warren and grand daughther of Richard Warren (Mayflower passenger 1620)

Rich Cary
