Hello,

I was doing some research on the Inglefield Family Crest and I came across your query on Ancestory.com. I am unsure as to how much this information will help, as I do not know origins of my family, but I am a living Inglefield raised in Utah after my father, whose name is Randy Inglefield, son of Jack Waldemar Inglefield, who was the son of Rhoda Draper (Jack's mother) - they lived in Mount Pleasant. Jack attended Wasatch Acedemy College Preparatory School. That's as far back as I can go on my grandfather. My grandmother, who married Jack W. Inglefield, was Thelma Johnson, she was the daughter of Melvin Johnson.

I found it interesting how in your query, it seems that a Johnson and an Inglefield migrated to Utah, together.

I hope to eventually hear back from you to find out how your search is going.

All the best, Mirelle (Inglefield)

I am interested in Julian Pauncefote Inglefield who took out an Aviator's Certificate towards the end of 1914.

The Royal Aero Club has a collection of records about early aviators. However, there are a few gaps, and we are working at the moment to try to fill in some of those gaps. The record collection is stored for us at the RAF Museum, Hendon, where we would like to ensure that all the early aviators are commemorated by the inclusion of brief biographical details, and - if available - a photograph.

Is there anyone able to provide some basic background information for the Trust's heritage record collection? You can check our web site, if you wish, which sets out the work of the Trust.

Thank you for any help that anyone can provide.

Andrew Dawrant
Trustee

THE ROYAL AERO CLUB TRUST
Registered Office:
Kimberley House, Vaughan Way, Leicester, LE1 4SG
www.royalaeroclubtrust.org
The Royal Aero Club Trust Limited.
Charlie,
I have a 2 cd set of a recording my grandfather made when I was a child. It was made on a wire recording machine ( my cousin still has the wire tape) and was transferred to a reel-to -reel by my dad, then to a cassette and I had it transferred to a disk. It is very interesting to hear him speak of the Boar War, the indians etc. He does mention the relatives in the military - his uncle was Sir Edward Inglefield. Hope you get to travel to see my uncle. He is I believe 76.

Hi there,

Many thanks for your reply, I have always wondered what history the Inglefield name has, without doing much about it until coming across this website. I am planning to travel around the globe to see where the Inglefield name goes, which is probably not very far, when money and career permits me to! I have always wanted to write some kind of travel writing book, and this could be the opportunity to do so. I am the grandson of Sir Gilbert Inglefield, who was Lord Mayor of London in the 60's and was born in 1912 and did his time on the River Kwai during the second world war. I am not totally sure of the facts, but I think his grandfather was an admiral in the navy at the turn of the century, and I know there was a destroyer during the first world war called HMS Inglefield. I will find out more from my father, who knows more about this than I do.

Good to hear from you
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
For a moment, I though you might be my cousin's son (Charles Frederick Inglefield has a son Charles who goes by Charlie). My Grandfather was a WWI Captain in the RAF and his uncle was a Pauncefote - Brittish Ambassador to the US for the Hay-Pauncefote treaty. My grandfather has been gone since 1957, but left a wonderful tape of his life experiences. I live near Cleveland, Ohio and there are 2 Inglefields (my uncle and cousin) here.

My mom used to tell me that there is a place in Greenland - Inglefieldland that was settled by her relatives. Sir Charles Inglefield is in some of the old encyclopedias - having discovered some kind of a landing gear for planes. I hope you do visit the states! It's a great place. Someday, I'd like to visit England to see my family's heritage!

Hi Marjorie, Yes, Inglefield is an interesting surname. While many people have Inglefields from like the year 400, most do not have active Inglefields in their tree.
My Inglefields came over as Mormon converts in the late 1860s. You did not mention dates with your tree, are they fairly late? I have also heard from a line that lives back east, but so far I have found no connection to them. If your line is fairly recent, you may have to get birthrecords from England to help substantiate the line further back. You may also check the FREEBMD project online at Rootsweb.com, it lists births, deaths and marriages in England, its free, but not all of the info is provided. Its just a starting point.

Sincerely, karen

Hi Karen,
My mother's Father, Captain Julian Inglefield, was from England. My grandmother, Marjorie Garthwaite Inglefield, was from West Hartleypool England. There were 5 children in my mom's family. Only one, Julian Pauncefote Inglefield Jr. of Lakewood, Ohio is still alive. My cousin, Charles Frederick Inglefield also bears the name and he resides in Rocky River, Ohio. The rest of the offspring were females. I'd love to try to connect with you as I also am fascinated with this family name.

Hi,
My grandfather, Captain Julian Pauncefote Inglefield, was married to Marjorie Garthwaite. I know they came over to the US, but I don't know if they started in Cleveland. My mother, Dorothy Inglefield, was pretty much raised in Lakewood, Ohio a suburb of Cleveland. My Grandfather was a Captain in the Royal Air Force, and was related Sir Frederick Inglefield. Both my grandmother and mother are deceased. I would love to know of any other family left.

Hi, Abby, I dont think any of my Inglefields remained in England.
John William Inglefield was born May 1818 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, married circa 1851 to Jane E. JOHNSON, born Feb. 14, 1832 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England to John JOHNSON and Ann STRINGER. The children of John and Jane were:Martha, b 1852, m. Elihu Walker BIBBINS, Matthew b. abt 1853, d bef 1870, John Wm. Jr. born 1854 in Hartlepool, England, m. Hannah M. BIELBY, Sarah Ann b.1857 said to have married Samuel SKINNER but cant prove that yet, Mary Ann born May 29, 1857 in Sunderland, must have died before 1870(not in that census with her family), Mary Jane b.1859, m. Harry STARTIN, John Thomas b. 1862, died 1878, Henry b. 1864, dont know what happened to him, and James W. b. 1868, m. Kate WARD.
This family came to the US between 1868(last child born in England) and 1870(in the Provo, Utah Census).
By the way my tree is online at Rootsweb.com, under database kcf.

Hi Gail, Quite interesting, one living Inglefield in England? The name has been hard to research. There is a 2nd line of Inglefields in the US that I have not been able to connect too, but Inglefield is a pretty uncommon name. There are a few of them listed at the Rootsweb FreeBMD site, only one, maybe 2, of my Inglefields are in the database as of yet. I am hoping to send off for birthrecords, I downloaded the required forms but must get money orders to pay for them, as they dont take US checks.
In my line the name has died out as far as I can tell, doing searches across the US there are less than 30 Inglefields.
Interestingly, my ancestor kept using Ingerfield rather than Inglefield.

We know of one "Inglefield" in the UK who is still alive but know of no other "Inglefield's" living in the Birmingham/west midlands area in UK.

Joseph Inglefield of the 19th century married Hannah- Joseph was a guardsman at Buckingham palace in the reign of queen mary and king george. That is the only information we have.they lived at 39 chapel street, west bromwich, West mids (staffs) UK.
