Hi, I saw your post about your family member Harvey Iris still alive at 111. Do you know if your family branch came from England or France? Our branch had been in England with a few of them emmigrating to Canada and the US. I have been told that the Iris name may be of French Jewish ancestory from another researcher in Michigan. He referred me to a book of Jewish surnames. I have also heard that our name could have been Irish. Send me an email if you have any info on your branch or the origin of the name.

I have received the death and marriage certificates for Charles Iris from England.

Charles Iris d. May 8, 1877 age 39 of pulmonary consumption (TB) his mother in law Mary Reddaway was present. He lived at Coombe St. Exeter, England. He was sick for 1 yr. His occupation as listed on 1871 census was Railway Labourer.

Charles was married Feb 5, 1865 to Mary Anne Reddaway in Exeter. His occupation is listed as Merchant Mariner. His father's name is George Iris, occupation Blacksmith & Farrier. Mary Anne's father is Richard Reddaway Cellarman (deceased).

The Iris name has been transcribed with following errors, Tris, Innes, Irish which has made searching difficult.

Its Elizabeth Iris, no not your sister. LOL. We lost contact. My comp died on me. I am back. I am looking for My grampa Charles Iris and Gramma Isabelle birth date and death dates. Hard to find. Hope to hear from you.

Hi there

I do not know any connection, but I recently found very obscure info on a Thomas Iris in RRS circa 1800. I was missing a generation in my family tree along one branch, and a note I found could fill that gap.

Thomas Gray married a cree woman (Marie Nepissing?) and had a daughter Marie Gray. Marie Gray married Charles Henault dit Canada and had a son Charles Henault dit Canada. (Almost every generation the first son is named Charles, which is suspicious in 1833 son coming up.)

According to this note in Gail Moran's book, Metis Compendium, Charles Henault dit Canada married a Marie Iris b abt 1810 daughter of Thomas Iris and Marie Nepissing.

They had a son Charles Henault dit Canada in approx 1833, by my reckoning. Most researchers have this Charles born in 1823, son of Charles Henault and Marie Gray, but that stinks becauise of generation application.

Enter into the picture confusing records of Antoine Henault dit Canada, who was born in both 1823 and 1833, depending on the reasearcher. My theory is that Antoine was born in 1823, and is the son of Marie Iris and brother to Charles Henault -- 1810.

That leaves Charles, son of Henault/IRIS to marry Louise Parisien. Confused yet. I base this theory on the fact two gwenerations got mixed up, and in so doing one of the Charles Henault was dropped, the one who married Marie Iris.

If anything of this connects with your records I would love you forever.

Other thasn that I can find no info yet on a Thomas Iris or Marie Iris in NWT.

This is a long shot, but by forefather was Pierre Baptiste born abt. l746 Of Mobile, AL and his wife is listed on a census as Margueritte I_is. Don't know if her surname was Iris or not. Do you have any conections to French Colonist of early LA and AL?

Also looking for info on the Iris family. My father is name John Wesley Iris, his father was name William Charles Lefroy Iris, his father was name Joseph William Escourt Iris, his father was name Peter Dill Iris and his father was name Peter Iris. They were all born in Bermuda except for Peter Iris who we cannot find any info on. He was born approx. 1813 and died April 15, 1873.

My greatgreatgrandmother was Marie Ignacia Iris wife of Jean Baptiste Mage,originally from France.My greatgrand Felix Mage Iris was born in Martinique in 1810 and came to Puerto Rico from Venezuela in 1818.He came to Ponce, P.R.and start a family.
