Rita,

I have been working this line for a long time. I am descended from Mary Ann Stafford and Simeon Ezekial Travis. Mary Ann was the daughter of William Stafford (b. abt 1750, d. bef 1778)and Anna Maria Geiger. I have documentation from Ebenezer Church records in Effingham County, GA. I show that William was the son of Joshua (b. 1697, d. 08/20/1794) and Martha [--?--]. I think that this is incorrect as Joshua would have been 53 years old and Martha's age would be unknown. I cannot find any documentation that William was this Joshua's son.

I am at a loss. I would like to join the DAR on Joshua. The patriot who is currently listed is Joshua (b. 1743, d. 08/20/1795). There is some disparity.

Can you help me please ?

Sylvia Teasley

Wilts, Esq, written 15 June 1621 and proved 4 November 1623.
Chester's 'Marriage Licenses' shows that "Richard Bernard of Petsoe, Bucks, widower, aged 26," was granted a license, Nov. 24, 1634, to marry "Anne Corderoy, aged 26, daughter of _____ Corderoy Esq." at St. Andrews-in-the Wardrobe, London. They came afterwards to Va., and in a grant of land to Mrs. Anna Bernard July 2, 1652, appear the names of Ellinor, William and Edward Corderoy, headrights. From the names of the will and the headrights it looks very much as if this William Corderoy was the father of Mrs. Bernard. There are other things which seem to prove that this was indeed the fact. Among the other headrights to the Bernard grant, which has been referred to, were William, Francis and Elizabeth Ironmonger (or Iremonger). In the Salifbury marriage licenses, not in course of publication in the (English) "Genealogist," it appears that on July 23, 1628 a license was issued for the marriage of Samuel Iremonger of Dennington (Donnington?), Berks., gent., aged 21 , and Bridget Corderoy of Chute, Wilts., aged 24. We have therefore the three daughters of William Corderoy, the testator, accounted for. Anna, who married Richard Bernard, Elinor, who came with her sister to Virginia, and Bridget, who married Samuel Iremonger. Evidently Mrs. Iremonger's children came with their aunt to Virginia. There ware also others not included among these headrights. In this Magazine XI, 75, 76, - 'this' magazine not identified - are the administrations granted 1681 to Elizabeth (Iremonger) wife of Anthony Evenden, on the estates of her sisters Martha (Iremonger) wife of John Jones, and Ann (Iremonger) Rumney, and her brother Corderoy Ironmonger, all of whom had died intestate in Virginia.]

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~conqueror/genealogy...
I have found this situation in my own family. Sometimes a clerical error is assumed when people in the same family have different last names so to eliminate confusion the certificate may be filed under both names-Ironmonger and Davis. It also indicates that he was in fact legally adopted by his step-father even tho he did not use that name.
Alice

Advice on a birth certificate: Ironmonger (otherwise Davis)

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am currently looking into my late father's family. My father was born in 1932 in Birmingham & on his birth certificate his mother's name is Edna Mabel Ironmonger (otherwise Davis) - do you know what that means? I am not sure why they have put both surnames. My father took his mother's surname of Ironmonger, even though both parents were there at the registration. My father was then adopted in 1933. I have found out about my grandfather c.1910 and his family but not my grandmother. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Searching for relatives of Milton Edgar Ironmonger

I have just joined the Ancestry site in search of my deceased (1992) father's birth relatives. My father was born in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia on 17th December 1925 and was adopted out in New South Wales, Australia to my grandparents at one week old. My father's birth mother named my father prior to adoption as Milton Edgar Ironmonger and he was registered as 'British'. The mother's name on the adoption record was Dora Ironmonger (mother's maiden name)and there was no father's name. The only other information I have is what my grandmother told me - that my father's birth mother was a wealthy young English girl who travelled out via ship from England with her mother to give birth to my father in Australia for 'social' reasons and then she returned to England. I have searched for a Dora Ironmonger in the English records and I can only find one born in 1904 in England which would have made his mother 21 years old at his birth. I have not had any luck as yet tracking down information on this Dora, but if anyone has information relating to a Milton Edgar Ironmonger I would be interested as his birth mother specifically named my father and these names may have been selected from an Ironmonger relative.

My Father (deceased 1992) was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 17th December 1925 and adopted out to mu Australian grandparents. All we know is that my grandmother told us that his birth mother was an English girl who placed the name of 'Ironmonger' on the birth certificate and that she travelled by ship out to Australia with her mother to give birth to my father and adopt him out. Apparently she stayed in Sydney for a couple of months after my father's birth to ensure that he was adopted out to a 'good Christian family' before returning to England with her mother. I am wanting to locate any posssible birth relatives.

Hello.

When I get something on my mind, I'd better check it out because I will not sleep until I do.

Sophia who married John B. Oliverson was Sophia Ironmonger. She died July 21, 1891.

You may already have found it, but I found this info in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Jacksonville, Morgan Co. Ill. on the web.

I found this family of Oliversons on Family Search, the LDS website.

I also found a web-site for John's brother James Oliverson. Have you saw that? I have e-mailed them twice, they do not return my e-mails.

I just know this is the family of my G. G. Grandmother Ellen Esther Oliverson Lewis of Bureau County, Ill. 1850, but she is not mentioned.

Maybe the Ironmonger family can lead me to clues. Thanks,

Let me see what I can find in my notes on the Oliversons. I know it was not a direct connection. Or at least I haven't found it but I am pretty sure they were close to my Ironmonger family. I will get back to you in a week or two on it.
Eileen

I am researching the Oliverson family who lived in Bureau Co. Illinois. Esther Oliverson came from England in 1849. She married George Lewis in 1853 and died in 1856. I think maybe her father was John Olivrson who was living also in Bureau co. during that time frame. Esther Oliverson had a daughter named Sopbia. I don't know if this is the Oliverson family connected to the Ironmonger family, but it is worth a try. Thanks Stanley.

I have researched Ironmongers from the Staffordshire area. The earliest I have found is Joseph Ironmonger married Elizabeth Hickman I think around 1823. They came to the US sometime around 1850. They had 4 children. Ben, Joseph, John and Mary Ann. Joseph reportedly died in 1850-1851 probably in New Orleans, LA. Elizabeth reportedly died in St. Louis around 1855. The children moved on to Jacksonville Ill. and I believed they lived with relatives by the name of John and Sophia Oliverson. I believe that Sophia may have been an Ironmonger.

He had a son Frank that died in California in 1946. Frank had a son J. Lynn Ironmonger who I believe died in California in 1952. There were too brothers Ben and John but as far as I have found they had no sons.

I, too, am looking for a Joseph Ironmonger...his middle name was William. He lived in the Terra Haute, Indiana, area in 1920. I wonder if he could possibly be one of the sons of your Joseph Ironmonger.

Ironmonger England to Illinois

I am looking for Joseph Ironmonger that immigrated to the US about 1852. He had a wife and 4 children but I am not sure if they came the same time as him. They travel up the Mississippi to St. Louis and then to Springfield. Joseph and his wife Elizabeth Hickman died somewhere along the trip leaving the children. I believe they were related to John Oliverson and Sophia of Illinois.

If any one has info I would appreciate the help.

IRONMONGER Family Graveyard or Cemetary or Plot

My name is Dwight Norris. I recently discovered that I am a direct descendant of a Thomas NORRIS, Jr born 1638 in St. Mary's County in Maryland colony, and died June 1683 in Lancaster County, Virginia colony. He married Martha IRONMONGER about 1661 in Northumberland County, Virginia colony. Martha died about 1670 in Virginia colony. Thomas died in June 1683 in Lancaster County, Virginia colony. He was "possibly" buried in the IRONMONGER Family Graveyard or Cemetary. Desire help in finding the location/s of any IRONMONGER Family Graveyard or Cemetary or Plot? I am assuming possibly in Northumberland County, VA. Any assiatance at all would be greatly appreciated. My email address is dwitehawk@aol.com. Thank you, Dwight Norris

On 30/12/1861 a Robert Ironmonger was the father of a Fanny Ironmonger who was married on that day to a Henry Hodey in Castle Donnington. There was a William Ironmonger a witness at both Robert's and Fanny's wedding.

Also an Elizabeth Ironmonger, a widow marrying an Amos King on 26/10/1846.

Hope this is some use to you

Roger
