Maureen--thank you so much for your family information; I will update Theodore's family. I continue to search for death dates of Jean/John Bapt. Isabell and Zoe Loreque. They were the parents of Theodore--I believe he died before 1900 because Zoe was living with Theodore in the 1900 census--they are found under the surname Eisabell--smile smile. I have also found 10 of their 11 children, but continue to search for child #11 who had to have died before 1900; may have been a girl.

I have the Isabell genealogy back to 1499 in France--a genealogist in Canada did the work for me; (it is from the Drouin papers) and have formatted it into Microsoft word so that it was easier for my family to share. If you would like it, I can email it--it is 133 pages. Let me know.

Rita Isabell; timisabell@gmail.com

Hello Rita. It was nice to hear from you and I look forward to your continuing correspondence regarding Isabells. My paternal grandmother, Josephine C. Isabell, was the daughter of Theodore Isabell and Celia LaDuke, from Berlin, Monroe, Michigan. My grandmother, Josephine, was widowed at 18 from William Stafford (my dad about 2 at the time) and she remarried to Gilbert Dewees...family from Iowa. Her sister's name was Edna Isabell. Josephine was a hard worker and the Head Housekeeper at St. John's Hospital on the east side of Detroit. She died from a heart attack at work in 1964. Let me know what information you are interested in and I, too, will share all that I have. Thanks again for your note.
Sincerely,
Maureen Little

Just had a breakthrough in my research and found Maria Isabell of Cornwall, England is my great-great-great-great grandmother. Maria married Joseph Vincent in Truro, Cornwall in 1848. My line then descends to Laura Vincent-Devonshire, Sarah Jane Isabell Devonshire-Pearce to Jessie Pearce Rodda. I am interested in knowing more about the English Isabell's, especially about the name (does not sound very British?) If anyone has any information to help, I would greatly appreciate it.

From what I can recall, my family tree can be traced back to the Isabel(le's) that came over from France. I believe this happened in the early 1700's. They first settled on Isle D'Orleans.
I can get more info from my sister who has more detailed stuff and it is all recorded.

Let me know.

Suggestion: Go to:
http://www.genforum.com
and go to the ISBELL forum, then perform a search for "Oklahoma" or "OK" as well as "Fannie," "Fanny," and other names you want to look for.
You should post a query there also. It is a message board that is more widely read, so it may produce results.

Isabelle family, France England

Early history of the Isbell family in England, where the name is spelled Isbell since the 1300s, is that the family was from Normandy, came to England in or soon after 1066, and originally spelled the name Isabelle. Isbell appears to be a Spanish spelling of the name, however, doesn't it? Do you have any interesting information on your ancestors while they still lived in Normandy?
There is another version of the Isbell history that states Isbell was a Scottish name and would appear to be unconnected to the Norman-French Isabelles, if true. There was an Ysabel family in an old book on coats of arms of families from the Continent.

Most of the Isabells from Canada that I've heard of were descendants of French Isabelles and nearly all spelled the name Isabelle. I'm afraid I don't know very much about them, however, but you might look at the Isabelle message boards. Also, try Isbell forum at Genforum.com
