Hi,
I have a great, great, great grandmother named Ann Ivison who had a sister named Sarah (also Margaret & Ellen). Ann was born in Manchester, England on January 30, 1797. She travelled to Philadelphia, PA in 1826, married an Englishman named James Simpson and settled in Illinois. They started a large farm and their family were on that land for 4 generations. The last generation (my father & siblings) sold the farm in the 1970's or 80's. I have more data if you're interested.

Brent Mackintosh

I am descended from David Ivison from Jerriestown who died in 1833, alas before death certificates. Family lore has it that he hung himself in the kitchen of the farm. I have been unable to find any newspaper reports and he had left the Quakers by then apparently. Does anyone know how I can find out why he did this or even if it is true? Poor man!
Thank you very much. Hilary

I have a Mary Ivison born 1824 Bolton, Cumberland who married Christopher Wannop born 1824 Stanwix in 1854 in Carlisle. I have census for her as Mary Wannop for 1861, 1871, 1881, 1901. In 1901 she resides in Rockcliffe with her daughter Frances and son in law William Percival. One census also contains information for a related Thomas Iveson residing with the family. It is very possible that the Rockcliff families could be connected.

I have a Mary Ivison born 1824 Bolton, Cumberland who marries Christopher Wannop born 1824. Christopher is listed as being born in Stanwix. The Wannops are associated with the Carlisle are. Mary and Chrisopher marry in 1854 and I have census for her for 1861, 1871, 1881, 1901. In 1901 she is with her daughter Frances who marries Willim Percival. We have photos of William and his family. I am descended from Mary's son Christopher Thomas Wannop born 1861 Wetheral Parish. I have just recently found Mary's maiden name so I may have more soon. I would be interested in your information as well.

I have a Mary Ivison born Bolton or Bolton Gate, Cumberland in 1824 who marries in 1854 a Christopher Wannop born 1824. I have census for them but I am missing census for her for 1891 which would be as Mary Wannop. I have not been able to determine her census items for before her marriage. She is residing with her daughter Frances who marries William Percival near the end or her life. Would really like parentage and grave site but any help appreciated?

You need to know your parents full names including their places of birth as well as your grandparents dates & places of birth, marriage & death and possibly your great-grandparents. The more info that you are able to accumulate the better the chance of making a connection. Let me know what you come up with. I can trace my own Ivison line back to the 1500's. Perhaps i may be able to tie you into our line somewhere. Dave

I am related to the Clockmakers Ivisons and I do not know for sure if the Spencer who is your ancestor is my direct line or if it is his uncle. I am confused about that. My Spencer came to the USA followwing the time that Mary Ann Burgess died. She was married to a Spencer and which one I do not know. The book THE CLOCKMAKERS OF CUMBERLAND say Spencer died in 1835 and was married to Mary Ann Burgess in 1831. (I have records from the Latter Day Saints archives with the marriage 31 Dec 1830 at Carlisle, St Cuthbert, Cumberland, England. This book has my Spencer with the birth date that is on his tombstone in Shelby Co., IL and I know that Mary Ann and Spencer- shich one? had a son Tomas Burgess b 12 Dec 1831 and he was raised by his maternal grandparents.
If you want to correspond directly my e-mail is brookensr@juno.com
Rosella Brookens, Christian Co., IL

Yes - I have suspicions that I am decended from Thomas Burgess back in England, (well at least he is the man we got Ivison from..... ). Curious about any DNA testing done on male Ivisons.... If mine was to match up to any of the male lines we'd know for sure.

Dear Tom,
I have researched the Ivison name for 30+ years and am a direct descendant of Spencer Ivison who came to America around 1833. He was married in England and left his son, Thomas Burgess and wife Mary Anne Burgess. Please contact me and maybe we can piece this together.
Hi Danielle, In order to trace your Ivison ancestors you need some names, dates of birth and/or death, dates of marriages and to whom, to start with. Once you are able to determine a starting point send me the information and i will be happy to do some tracking for you. I can trace my Ivison ancestors back to a John Ivison, born 1640, at Jerristown, Kirklinton, Cumberland, England.
I've just found that my great grandmother's name was Charlotte Ivison Mitton. Searching further, I found that her mother's maiden name is Sarah Ann Ivison. Sarah married James Mitton in Manchester, England. As far as I can determine both families lived in the Greater Manchester, England area. In Dec 1887 Sarah & Charlotte sailed to Philadelphia, PA. Charlotte lived there the rest of her life.
Do any of you have relatives with the surname Ivison from the Salford, Ardwick, Manchester area of England? Jo-Ann
