Pres. Andrew Jackson's brother?

President Andrew Jackson had older brothers, Hugh and Robert. Hugh joined the patriot regiment commanded by Col. William R. Davie. Soon thereafter, Hugh died from heat exhaustion at the Battle of Stono Ferry. Can anyone tell me if Hugh was married and had children?
Phoebe Deborah Jackson was born 1802 near Staunton, VA. She claimed to be the second cousin of Pres. Andrew.
Phoebe's father was Reuben Harris Jackson. I think Reuben Harris may have been the son of Hugh Jackson, Andrew's brother. Does anyone know anything about this Hugh Jackson?
Harold Jackson and the S.S. Landcastria

I'm looking for relatives of a Harold Jackson, born in or around Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, England, circa 1885 to 1898. I did a search in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and found a Harold Jackson who died on S.S. Landcastria. He would have been about the right age and was a Steward on the ship. Not sure if he's the right Harold, but chasing the lead.

The information I have on Harold is that he worked the transatlantic liners in the late 1920's and early 1930's. Supposedly a musician on the ships, he may have been just a crew member who had a musical hobby. Harold worked on the Canadian Pacific (Duchess?) liners at that time. Harold may have ended up in the merchant marine (likely British or Canadian) for the second war. Trying to find out where he ended up and any family connections.

Any Landcastria researchers comments are also very appreciated!
Harry died in 2000, in Columbus, Georgia.

Stonewall, born 1884 in Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia, is my great(half) uncle. His parents, my great grandfather and step grandmother, are John Lazurus Jackson and Josephine Cook.
Found this entry in newly (1855) formed Wilson County, NC in 1860
Black Creek District dated June 8th, 1860
111-111
Jackson, W. M. 41 carpenter $75.00
......Chany 28
......Emily 17
......Catherine 14
......William 11
......Martha 5
......Charles 1
Spane, Martha 62

I can not find this family in 1850 or in 1870.

I hope that Chany Jackson was
Christiana Spain age 21 daughter of
Thomas Spain age 61 and
Martha Spain age 50 with sister
Alavany age 19 listed in the
1850 census in Stancill's district, Pitt County, NC. This part of my Spain family seems to have disappeared after the 1850 census.

Does any one know if this was a Jackson family and anything about them. Even if you do not know of a Spain/Spane connection if you know where they were or where they went I'll continue looking for the connection.

Jeffrey
Greetings to All;

I am searching for my nephew's children. It was back in 1997 or 1998 when my nephew Terry was gunned down at the age 18 on Park Heights in front of a barber shop is where his body laid. Many people attended the funeral who I was not familiar with. If you know of this person and the parties I seek I would gladly thank you for all your time and effort.
humbletothee@aol.com

Obit: Roberta Carol Jackson Marteen (1918?-2008)/IA,NE,CA,NM

From the Albuquerque Journal, Dec. 15, 2008.
Roberta Carol Jackson Marten turned 90 alone last Halloween.

She died alone 2 weeks later.

In her waning years, she lived detached from the woman she had been, from those who had known her, the history of her life entombed in her dementia-curdled mind.

As far as anyone knows, she received no visitors at Princeton Place Nursing Home, where she lived out her last two months clouded and crippled. No one came to see her during her 16 months at Atrisco Lights Assisted Living before that.

Except legal guardian Linda Piasecki.

It had been her job to look out for Marten's interests since March 2007 when someone from the Encino Terrace Retirement Homes -- the last place Marten had chosen on her own to live -- reported that the small, frail woman's senility and blinding macular degeneration had debilitated her to where she was no longer safe on her own.

Marten was packed up and moved to Atrisco Lights, then to Princeton Place, her worldly possessions and her tether to the community lost along the way.

Piasecki knew little about her client other than what a few official documents told her:

That she was born Oct. 31, 1918, in Newton, Iowa, to Robert Jackson, 23, and Bertha Swatzlander, 25.

That she may have been married three times but divorced for good in the 1950s, presumably from a man named Marten.

That she had been 5-feet-3 with green eyes, her grayed froth of curls no longer a youthful auburn.

Marten left behind little in the way of wills or correspondence. There was no address book, no journals, no annual holiday cards with return addresses. "I tried sometimes asking her whether she had a brother or a sister or anyone I could contact," said Piasecki, of Unidas Case Management. "But anything she said made no sense. Her dementia was too advanced." When Marten died, Piasecki had no one to send her ashes to. No one responded to the obituary she had published in the Journal for two days. "It's so sad to die like she did," Piasecki said. "Somebody must have loved her once." She believes this because, among the box of old clothes and costume jewelry that survived Marten's moves, were two small photograph albums, a visual, albeit sporadic, representation of a life apparently lived well. Piasecki deduces that one album belonged to Marten's younger sister, whose name and childhood address -- Miss Corinne Jackson, 930 6th Ave, Sydney, Nebraska -- is scrawled almost imperceptibly in pencil on its first black page. Corinne's photos are colorless, some long loosened from their gluey moorings. Many are of young classmates from the 1930s, smiling girls with perfect finger waves and bearing names like Babe and Bubbles. One photo depicts the self-important faces of the young boys of St. Patrick's Orchestra, presumably in Sidney.

Many are the typical snaps of two sisters -- Berta and me, they are called -- arm in arm in front of nondescript houses and landscapes from Sidney to San Bernadino, Calif. "Berta and me" stand almost glumly with equally droll Aunt Ida and Uncle Ed, Aunt Edna and Uncle Tom, cousin Bill and a sharply dressed man named Paul Marshall. And pets. Numerous photos feature Chaquita the Chihuahua, Fritzy the cat, Migie the mutt. "One thing you can really tell is they loved animals," Piasecki said. "They're all over the place." Animals feature prominently in the other album, a slender yellow fabric thing only partly filled with the images of Marten's later years. There are fluffy cats, tiny Chihuahuas and elegant white poodles, some cradled in Marten's lap, some clasped by other people like furry accessories.

One is of a young woman in a bouffant named Jill sitting on the floor with Marten and several pets. In another, a young girl snuggles a white goose. That same girl is featured in a 1972 class picture with these words written on the back: "Nana, to the world's best grandmother! Love, Darci" But who was Darci? Why had she let the best grandmother die alone? "There is someone out there that knew this woman," Piasecki said. "Perhaps they just lost touch." From the photos, Marten is always neatly presented, a trim woman with an affinity for colorful print blouses and flowers. In many photos she appears wistful, distant. In others, she bears the same glum look of the earlier black and white photos, as if somehow she knew her life would someday end unnoticed. But in real life, Piasecki said, a cheeriness rose from within the dementia. In those rare moments of lucidity, Marten could be delightful, she said. "Last November, before her death, I remember rubbing her head in bed," Piasecki said. "She didn't want me to leave." Like everyone else had.

If you knew Roberta Carol Jackson Marten, contact Linda Piasecki at Unidas Case Management at 237-8244. Missing Roberta

You can reach Joline at 823-3603 or jkrueger@abqjournal.com

Missing Roberta

Albuquerque Journal Nov. 29, 2009
MARTEN -- Roberta Carol Marten, formerly Roberta Jackson, 90, died November 19, 2008. She was born in Newton, IA, October 31, 1918. Roberta was the oldest child of her parents. Her younger sister may be Connie Jackson of Sidney, NE. When Roberta was a teenager, she lived in San Bernardino, CA. It is unknown when Roberta moved to Albuquerque. At the time of Roberta's death, she resided at Princeton Place Nursing Home. Arrangements were by Riverside Funeral Home. "Somehow" I've tried for many an hour and a minute to imagine this world without me in it. I cannot think of a newborn day without me here-somehow-some way. I can't imagine the autumn's flare without me here-alive-aware. I cannot think of a dawn in spring without my heart's awakening. These treasured years will come and go with swifter pace, but this I know, I have no fear-I have no dread of that marked day that lies ahead. My flesh will turn to ash and clay. But I'll be here-somehow-someway.
Jackson - Captain of Brig "Shaw"

We have a family document handed down concerning a Captain Jackson from Cheshire. The story is that he was the captain of a ship involved in some unspecified rescue. For this he was decorated in some way. From the date context of the document he would be 19th century.
I have searched extensively online to find a ship called the Shaw. Captain Jackson does not feature in any of the published censuses(the rest of his family come from Flintshire/ Cheshire), but still this family letter exists about him.
Any ideas as to where I can search would be gratefully received
Thanks
Peter

Jackson's From MD To IL then NE

I just started doing the family history on my mothers side. I was wondering if anyone else is researching the Jackson's that came from Maryland? I can go back as far as Joseph A. Jackson born 1820 in Frederick Co. Md. He married Jane R DeVilbliss and had 10 or 11 children. I was wondering if anyone had any info on who his parents were? Two sources said there were two possible names, one had down William and the other had down Lewis.I also researched William Henry Jackson which I think might be Joseph's brother. His fathers name was William Lewis Jackson. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Monica

I have a tintype with the following written on the back "Mrs A.W. Jackson and Helen who died." Not sure what the first initial is. I think it is an A but could be a G. Does anyone know who these ladies are? The young Helen looks about 10 years old and the mother about 30. Picture was probably taken 1870-1880 but could be sooner.

Clarence JACKSON Run Over by Train 1914 OK

...from the archives in Oklahoma City, OK:

The Daily Oklahoman
08-03-1914
p.9

BOY KILLED UNDER WHEELS OF TRAIN

Mangled Body Picked Up in Santa Fe Yards; Identification Lacking

BULLETIN

At an early hour Monday morning, the body of the boy ground
to death in the Santa Fe yards Sunday night was identified
as that of Clarence Jackson of Oklahoma City, brother of
Nate Jackson, the bantamweight boxer.

...detailed long story follows...

08-04-1914
p.9

BOY KILLED BY TRAIN BURIED AT FAIRLAWN

Clarence Jackson, the boy found dead in the Santa Fe yards
in Oklahoma City Sunday night, after having been run over
by the southbound 10:18 passenger train, was buried in
Fairlawn cemetery Monday afternoon. Funeral services
were held at 5 o'clock Monday at the chapel of Marshall
and Harper, where the body was taken immediately after
being identified, Rev. H H Van Horn officiated.

No further light has been thrown on the manner in which
the lad met his death, the supposition still being that
he attempted to catch the passenger and fell beneath the
wheels. He went to his home, 400 East Fourth street late
Sunday afternoon and bade his folks goodbye, but did not
tell them where he was going and they thought little of
it. No word has come from the other boy who is thought
to have been with the Jackson lad in the Santa Fe yards
early Sunday night.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***
I'm trying to research several Jackson families in Arkansas and am having a hard time with this one. William Jackson(b 1795 GA) and his wife Mary(b 1800 GA) are living with their five children; Martha(b 1824 GA), Henry(b 1828 AL), Margaret(b 1834 AL), Francis(b 1838 AL), and Edwin(b 1840 AL). Also in this township is John W Jackson(b 1827 AL). John W Jackson and Henry I believe moved to Prairie / Lonoke Counties after this. I'm trying to find out who are the parents of William Jackson and his wife Mary. Please contact me if you have any connections.
Cody Greene

Reuben Jackson born Oct. 28, 1750 in North Carolina Confusion

There are a number of Reuben Jackson's on Ancestry's trees born Oct. 28, 1750 in North Carolina. He died between 1812 & 1855 depending on which tree you look at. His place of death is listed in a number of different states. He lived in Surry Co. N.C. much of the time. He had at least 3 wives if you believe the info on the various trees. These include Susannah Richardson, Laviner Crouch, & Annis Ligon. It appears to me they are different Reuben Jacksons, and everybody is grabbing at the Oct. 28, 1750 birthdate. I've never seen anything about a divorce from any of his wives. On some of these trees he married again before his earlier wife died. A couple of people have tried to tell me my ancestor is this Reuben born Oct. 28, 1750. The info I have on my Reuben was found in an old county history of Neosho Co. Kansas in a bio on Thomas Jackson. Thomas is a known brother of my ancestor John. The bio states Thomas was born about 1805 in North Carolina. His father was Reuben Jackson, a veteran of the War of 1812. In 1821 Reuben took his family to Fulton Co. Indiana, but later returned to North Carolina where he died at the age of 105. The history doesn't mention a wife, but have been told by a reliable source she was Annis Ligon, a widow whose name was Jane Annis Dunavant prior to marriage. There is some question as to whether she may have taken her stepfather's name. I've never found anything to support my Reuben living to 105, seems unlikely he'd be going off to war at age 62. DNA shows a close connection with my line & the William Jackson (died 1792) & Margaret Wilson line in Guilford Co. N.C. From what I've been told the connection should be about 1 generation back. That line is known to have come from Chester Co. Pennsylvania. The Reuben Jackson born 1750 parents are usually, but not always, listed as Isaac Jackson & Mary Miller of Chester Co. Pennsylvania. My guess is that my Reuben is likely a nephew of the one born 1750. Anybody have any info to sort the Reubens out?

I have been studying the families of President Andrew Jackson and Vice President Martin Van Buren. I was wondering if anyone else was studying all the in-law families of President Jackson and Vice-President Van Buren.
