Oh yes, I did see that Ursula and Ira Janes in Vermont and thought that was very interesting but I couldn't make the connection between my Ursula/Ira? of NY-1824/1807 and that Ursula/Ira. I see she (1817) married a Chaffee. I wonder if it is a coincidence or something more.

Janes, D.D., and other Biographical Sketches: by the Rev. Frederic Janes"
Hope this helps, this book has more information than you can shake a stick at!!

Janes families of NY who may have come from CT.

There seems to be very little online about this Janes family except for a theme of certain names repeatig which may or may not be coincidence.

My Janes ancestor starts with Ursula Janes who married John Shutts Jr. in Oswego, NY. I believe Ursula is associated with an Ira Janes b ca 1807 as he married a Lucinda Shutts b 1824--looks like a second marriage as he has an older female b 1832 named Phoebe living with them in 1850. Ira has a male son named Erastus b 1852.
Also living in Oswego COunty, (Hannibal) are Nathan Janes b 1783 CT and Isaac Janes b 1815. Isaac and Ira are on the same page in the census. Nathan has recorded deeds with Isaac and at least one with Lucinda who may be the one married to Ira.

Meanwhile,in Cayuga, there is TImothy Janes 1778 CT and Esther, Erastus 1798 CT and Lydia (Woodruff). Later on the name Nathan Janes shows up in this area (later date).

I can't seem to connect this group with any of those of that seem to be close out of VT or MA or CT family trees.

Anyone have a connection?

I wrote a book on Altadena and did some research on EP Janes. You can find in Altadena: Between Wilderness and City by Michele Zack. Also, if you go to Altadenaheritage.org its website has a page (pull down menu "What We do, and then "Celebrate Community") with some info and old add for Janes houses. You have to scroll down a ways to find it, as Janes Village was honored as an area of Altadena
Hello Joanne,
My family married into the Janes family when a Miss Janes daughter of Ralph (c 1440-1524 ) married Robert Hopkyns (later Hopkins) in Ivinghoe, Bucks.
The family became Hopkins-Janes, Janes-Hopkins and also reverted to the separate surnames. I am interested in the Hopkins part and the Janes' side when they meet. My tree starts in 1440 until they leave Ivinghoe in about 1700, then in Leighton Buzzard until the 20th century.
Can we exchange information? jt.hopkins@ntlworld.com
Best wishes,
Trevor Hopkins

I have a question, about Joseph senior. You indicated that Joseph was born in Virginia. I have not been able to trace joseph prior to 1844 when he and Harriet were married in Morgan County Ohio. 1844.
I would very much like to share any and all info that I have. Thank you.
Violet Theresa Janes (b 1908 or 1909 Isle of Wight, England)

Does anyone have any information about Violet Theresa Janes (b 1908-9 on the Isle of Wight, England)? Her parents were John William Janes 1877-1959 and Harriet Janes (nee Wallder or Walder d. 1961). She had a sister Marion and two brothers (one of whom died aged 4). There seem to be no marriage or death records for her, nor mention in English census, and I am curious to know her story. I am the grand-daughter of her half sister, Edith Lilian Rose.

Here's what I've found; Benjamin Frank Janes was Eva's father and Elizabeth Wilson was her mother. They lived in Proyorsburg, Graves Co., KY and Dublin, Hickman Co., KY. Elizabeth's mother was Nancy Slayden, and Nancy's mother was Nancy Dodson, born in 1777 in Va. From various tree's, Nancy Dodson's line went back to Chief Opechancanough's daughter Jane, known as Jane Eagle Plume. I can't find any more info. on Great Grandfather Ben Frank Janes, except for a census that didn't give his parent's names. Do you know if this man was in your Janes line or where he belongs? Thank you.

Janes from Hithergreen, Lewisham

My grandfather, Bertie Augustus Janes (born in Lewisham in 1883)was the youngest of 12 or 13 children. His father, Fred Janes was a Tailor and Bertie's mother, Eliza Janes (nee Thompson) both lived at 36 Hithergreen Lane circa 1880-81 in the Parish of St Mary's. The names of his siblings are: Frederick, Percy, Walter, Martha, Celina A, Florence, Martha and Amos. Bertie Augustus was not on this census as he was the youngest. In another census circa 1900 it has Emma as the wife of Frederick Janes Snr and two children Albert A and Bertie A. I think they made a blew in recording and it should have been Eliza and not Emma as Bertie's baptism record has Eliza as his mother.
Bertie married

I have Heman and Abigail Burdick Janes with children, Heman born 1787,Laura born 1791,Elijah born 1793, James born 1798,
David born 1800. Then Heman married a Mary and had Caroline
born about 1831 and Abigail about 1833. It seems that even tthough Abigail Burdick Janes was to have married again with children, some of the children of the first marriage to
Heman were born after the proposed after the second marriage date? Andrew & his brother Francis Marion have their households reversed in 1870 (I don't know if a neighbor reported their information or they were just playing a joke on the enumerator...but it is only the actual head of household who's name is off).

According to Martha's death certificate her parents were Willis Page & Nina Reed - their household is the dwelling before Lifus & Martha's in 1880.

I will e-mail you what I have on Lifus & his wife Martha.

Just found your post which has given me new insight into looking for my gg grandfather. I have been using a copy of the James/Peek book and have a listing of Lifus' siblings.
Nothing else is listed All the information was submitted by Ernest England and the last entry was for Lesley Janes b.1876 who married Jane??: one son Guy Janes b.1919. Also has listing for an Absalom b.1795 in VA. Sampson b.1840 and Richard Donald Janes. Don't know if you're interested in this information but if so you may email me at JBloom1021@aol.
