Hi

I am the great, great grandaughter of Jacob Jary (born 1824)
in Norfolk. He married Elizabeth Walker, also of Norfolk and they travelled up the east coast of England, firstly to Grimsby, Lincolnshire ultimately settling in South Shields which was then County Durham. Jacob died a comparatively young man in 1858. In his obituary published in the local gazette he had been Master Mariner aboard the Brig Emily when it foundered, I know not where. I was unaware that a branch of the family had left England to settle in Texas.

Hello. My maternal line contains Samuel Agger born about 1851. I know he married a Maria Jary who was born about 1857. Maria's father was Robert Jary born 1830 Shouldham Thorpe. Robert's father was William Jary.
I also have got a Daniel Jary in the tree. He was born about 1834 Shouldham Thorpe and married a Rose Lambert.
Also back through my direct line I have a Sarah Fuller, an illegitmate child of William Jary. William's occupation is given as Drillsman when Sarah Fuller married Robert Agger; Robert himself being an illegimate child of William Fendick.
I wonder if any of these connect with you and yours ? Would be great if so ................ Jean S

Thank you for clarification. No, those books are seldom found in USA, so I have relied upon researchers in Norfolk or London (Kiev) to check what was available in the NRO or from the actual parish registers, plus any other leads. Those 3 parishes you sent appear to be from the coastal area of North Norfolk, and I have only one child born in the Jary line born in 1875 in Snettisham, but she came on to the USA following her parents leaving in 1883 from South Runcton area. My Jary lines so far go back to 1795 and I am trying to fill gaps or missing data. I do appreciate your effort to help - so little now days. Should you stumble upon this odd name, please let me know!! And for your info, at one time there were only 86 people in the USA who had this surname.
I'm sorry if I confused you. I noticed the name when looking for something else & - as it's quite an unusual name - thought it might be helpful. I have found the following in the book I mentioned. It may not be easily available in the US, so I have copied them out below. All parishes are in North Norfolk. Downham Market is further west, it's not very far away:
1. Melton Constable: Nicholas Jary died Dec. 18th 1801, Aged 63.
2. Salthouse: John Jary died June 3rd 1853, Aged 60 years. Sarah Jary died Novr. 10th 1870, Aged 70 years.
3. Swanton Novers: John Jary d. May 5th 1836, Aged 15. Eleanor Jary d. Aug. 7th 1838, Aged 15. Eliza Victoria d. May 2nd 1840, Aged 2½. Thomas who died in his infancy. Mary Jary d. June 16th 1841, Aged 24. Martha Jary d. Nov. 21st 1811, Aged 45. William Moore Jary, b. April 29th 1814. d. May 14th 1814. John Jary d. Aug. 18th 1848, Aged 82. Ann Jary d. Jan. 20th 1850, Aged 17. Edward Jary d. March 12th 1856, Aged 32. John Jary d. Oct. 27th 1871, Aged 77. Mary his wife d. March 5th 1854, Aged 60.William Jary d. July 27th 1862, Aged 32.

Thanks Mr. Gardiner - but tell me where the book is - USA or England? I'm in the state of Texas in the USA and not all libraries here carry the same books
as England - which I'm sure you know. There are about 4-5 parish churches near the Downham Market, Norfolk, area that I believe is where my ancestors originated. I have pics of the Runcton-Holme church yard and one is there. Perhaps you have other monumental references of the family surname in the Yarmouth area of Norfolk. Any clarification would be appreciated. Sincerely,
Roland jary

If it's any help, there are quite a lot of inscriptions relating to the Jary name in The Monumental Inscriptions in the Hundred of Holt, which was published around 1896. It covers churches & churchyards over a large part of North Norfolk. You may be able to find a secondhand copy or reprint.

I wish I could help, but my limited data came from individual birth and marriage certificates from Norfolk parishes - some I have learned since have not been transcribed to larger data bases. The farthest I go is to a WILLIAM JEARY b 30 Aug 1797, wife JANE BANYARD b. 6 Dec 1802 and m. 28 Feb 1824. I only have his son, Edmund b. 24 Jul 1836 - there most likely were more kids (they didn't exactly have tv in those days!), but my researcher out of London did not provide any other names - this was done some 32 years ago for me out of Somerset House in London. I hope you find the info, because my mother's name was the same: Jane Elizabeth - interesting, but she was born here in USA in 1910.
I'd suggest you hound the South Runcton and Shouldham Thorpe parishes for the info - if we connect, please let me know!
Best regards,
Roland

My great-grandmother, Jane Elizabeth Jary, was born in Shouldham Thorpe in about 1829. She married Henry Garrod of Gooderstone, Nflk, in the fourth quarter of 1851. My grandmother, Caroline, was their daughter born in 1859, but Henry had died a few months earlier. Caroline married John Fisher on New Year's day 1880.

I have been trying to obtain data about Jane Elizabeth and her parentage.

No, not that particular "Jeremiah" Jeary. If you look at a map of the early 1800s in Norfolk you will see many of the small villages/towns present. Holme was one of them. Most of my line came from South Runcton, Wallington Woods, and Shouldham Thorpe - all near Holme. The names I'm chasing were William, Marie, Edmund and a surname of Cooper and Banyard. Sorry.
