Hi Joe Ann,
I am trying to piece together my family. My Grandfather was
Sam Jayne. I was told that the second Silas Jayne was one of my uncles but the family never spoke about it. Silas had his brother George shot. I guess that's why they kept quiet about it. Do you have the Jayne tree?
Thanks,
Debbie

I already have several of his bottles, but I have seen in a museum a box of pills that I would like a picture of, or any other items.

Hi Adam,
My birth mother was lillian Jayne her brother was Martin Jayne. I was abandoned on the door steps of Belmont Hospital when hours old. I was adopted and them found the family when I was 32. They are all gone now but I am in contact with Jayne cousins. The funny thing is that when My adoptive mom heard that my birth mothers maiden name was Jayne, she said I hope you aren't related to those Jayne brothers in Chicago. Well I was told that they were my uncles. I need to know just how I am related. uncle Martin wouldn't talk about his family to his kids. I want to unravel the mistery. Thanks for your help.
Debbie Johnson

Hello all!

I am looking for information on Joshua Jayne, who according to family history was a Methodist Circuit riding preacher c. 1860, maybe in Ohio. My great, great grandmother was a little girl named Hattie (Later Gorton) who was adopted by the Jayne family off of the orphan train from NYC when she was very little. The Jaynes had already raised their sons and adopted her. If you have any information on this part of the family, I would love to know more about them. I am hoping to determine whether the family story is true.

Thanks so much,
Kate
katetreick@yahoo.com

Hi!

I'm interested in finding anyone with knowledge of this couple. He is a first cousin of my grandfather, Paul Edward Malone, and son of my 2nd great grand uncle, Absalom Malone.

I've just inherited a photograph taken circa 1922 of Fannie and Clarence with their son, Clovis, seated in the parlor of their home. They were living in Saint Louis at the time. In the background are several tantalizing photos of other family members. I'm looking for anyone that might be able to identify one or two of the photos - they are blurry, since they are in the background, but probably sufficiently clear for anyone familiar with the family.

-Steve

Joseph McAfee Jayne- descendant of Anselm Jayne?

I descend from a line of Joseph McAfee Jaynes, the earliest being born in Mississippi around 1825. I was unable to find his previous ancestors until stumbling upon Robert Lowry's History of Mississippi (coincidentally, another one of my ancestors) who claims that Joseph Jayne and his brother William descend from Anselm Jayne, one of the founders of Mississippi. However, after further research I have come across several sites and family trees that name William McAfee Jayne as the only child from the marriage of Anselm H. Jayne and Elizabeth McAfee, causing some confusion.

Has anyone come across any information on this line of Joseph M. Jaynes? Is this connection accurate?

I am not related to this family…

Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado)
Sept 30, 1910 Page 5

RECORD SIZE CHILD BORN

Dr. W.G. J. Salmon of Old Forge, Pa., states that a girl baby born to Mr. and Mrs. James Jayne of Moosic three weeks ago weighed only one pound and two ounces, and upon being weighed again later gained only one ounce. It is smaller than the baby born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burpee of East Templeton, Mass., which when one week old weighed one pond and fifteen ounces.
I am not a descendant of this family but have researched this line some as well as the other Jayne/Jeanes lines.

I do believe Benaiah wrote letters about his research, I've seen one transcribed to a cousin with the last name Kennedy, I think. I have never had contact with anyone from this family who has knowledge of where Benaiah's work/research or documentation went to.

I do know however that much of the old history is incorrect. When you get to William Janes immigrant to New Haven, CT and his English origins and him being a cousin to William Jayne of Long Island, NY, there are no facts involved. Almost all of what is said about these families back in England, is not correct. Some of the southern lines written to be descended from this family also are not from this family. Research in local records and dna say that much is incorrect.

Renee Newman

Thank you for this wonderful information. I am just starting to trace my lineage and have very little info from my father to go on. It will be interesting to see where this journey takes me. My 11 year daughter, Alejandra Jayne, is excited to help me with this project.

~Jennifer Jayne-Careaga

Mary

I too am a descendant of Dr. Jayne. I have researched his records etc... Do you know any information about his first wife's family? Her name was Mary Walker, I have basic info about her, her father David Walker, dates for birth, marriage and death. I know her brother partnered in the drug company with the Jaynes. I have never researched the Walker fam. from his angle. I do not have any further information on Walker family do you?

Wayne Lee

By any chance are either your father or Uncle still alive...
Do you have ANY genealogy info on that side of your family? I ask because it has taken me over 12 years and last year was a wonderful break thru for me... Was Mildreds middle name Frances??? What was her married name? Who was her husband? I thought Alfreds wife must have divorced him, but I think she may have died in childbirth when Mildred was born... There was quite a few years between your Gramma and Mildred. If I remember right... My Phone number is 616-681-2359 I am in Michigan.... James was also the name of one of Sylvester's brothers...
I can hardly believe that after 12 years someone is actually answering my questions....
Roz

I need dates of birth, where, death, where marriages, and where. Is there also a source book where I can look them up? They all go back to David Jayne and Elizabeth DeWitt, patriots.
The family continues on to Margaret Ruth Jayne married to Paul J.

The site you mentioned is an excellent site that we often use for reference on the line you descend from.

Oliver Popenoe did a great deal of research on this family and a link to his case study can be found on our website at http://www.gean-ealogy.com/research/index.htm (Family Studies: William Jayne of Suffolk Co., NY).

Also, Renee Newman and I did a great deal of research on the Jaynes of Surry Co., NC/Grayson Co., VA over the years, and she was able to prove there as been some criss-crossing (or merging) of a couple of different people. To date I have not been able to determine how Isaac Jayne and Mary Jones' children were "proven", nor can I find any proof of the children listed other than the fact that it was printed in a family history many years ago (which unfortunately doesn't make it fact and doesn't mean it was error free).

Please feel free to check out what we currently have on this line and let us know if you have any questions, additions or corrections. http://www.gean-ealogy.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=...

Additionally, I have to add that some believe this line to be connected to the Jane/Jayne Family of MA/CT (Re: Rev Frederic Janes book), however dna currently indicates this is false, but to date we have only had two different lines of descent of William Janye of Suffolk Co., NY test. So...as usual I encourage as many Geen/Jean/Jane/Jayne (e, es, s) males to test as possible.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. The Jayne name is really interesting. Most of them seem to have originated around Gloucester or Bristol. The family names in my line were Thomas and Henry. Four generations of first born Henrys. Sadly the last Henry died in Meerut in India in 1925 serving in the army. He was just twenty. This subject is endlessly fascinating once you get started... thanks again for the reply.
