My uncle Robert Jaynes b. 1902, Tennessee - d.1983 California was married to a Addie Zachary. I understand they were only married for about a year when she died. I believe the marriage was probably in Indiana or Tennessee, as those are the areas the familied lived: although Bob is said to have traveled a bit.

Hi, my line is from Henry Janes and Rhoda Thomas. They had a son named Thomas born 1840. Thomas married Mary Ellen Barkhurst. They had a son named Andrew Jackson Janes who is my ggrandfather. I too am trying to connect the dots. I think Henry and Richard may be brothers. I think their father is Thomas Janes who shows in the 1820 census living in Bloom Twnshp, Morgan Cty but not before then. Would like to compare notes

Thanks! Published Books??? really I need to get one for my mom she'd be thrilled! Can you suggest a title? My mother had a 1/2 brother but we found out that he passed when amazingly we stumbled on her family plot when we went looking for plots for ourselves a few weeks ago -- it was a really WOW-ing experience and coincidence coupled with the fact that there was one plot available for her!!! She had tears of joy to find her Grandfather and Grandmother who raised her for her first 9 years and then her father and her half brother along with her father's second wife... it was unbelievable and seriously what brought me back to ancestry as I had abandoned it about two years ago when I hit so many walls!

Sherri

Sherri,

I agree your line definitely should be out of DE and will probably come from the New Castle, DE line. We don't really have anything on the line (at least not yet) because we haven't researched them. I know there are published books about them, but we didn't want to just copy the books without actually researching them and being able to back it up. There are just so many John, Williams, etc. They are often merged when they shouldn't be and sometimes shown as different individuals when they should be merged.

The more you research you will see there were way more Jean/Jane/Jayne men (and women) than most think. We probably don't even have a fourth of those in the US before 1860 and we have over 25,000 who have a Gean/Jean/Jane/Jayne ancestor.

If you come upon any male Jaynes please encourage them to participate in the dna project! Some thought the Jaynes line in NY and the Janes line in CT were related, but it would appear not (although we really need a few more from the CT lines to test so we can confirm it for sure).

Thank you very much for your reply. I did click on your link and see that none of the originated in Delaware (or that is what I gathered from what I saw) my line definitely has roots in Delaware so?
My husband is actually a Gean descendant, but it is often spelled Jean/Jeans/Janes...sometimes in the same document. Because of that we have a lot of information on the Gean/Jean/Jane/Jayne families. We have lots of brick walls, but by combining trees, and the research of many, we have actually managed to solve a few too. www.gean-ealogy.com/genealogy

Our dna project currently has at least six different lines in the US. A lot of Jeans became Janes (although I don't understand how they sound alike) and eventually Jaynes. Over the years we have seen the name spelled (and indexed) so many different ways it is amazing. Good luck in your research!

Thanks for your reply! I did find them in 1910 probably after my post. William E. is Harrison Gover's Father. I did have sort of a break through I found Isaac as William E. brother on someone's tree here on ancestry with a marriage to Ella Wirt. I am waiting for a reply to an e-mail I sent to the individual to see where/how they got that info... I've actually made a lot of headway and have other siblings but prior to 1860 or starting w/1860 no individuals listed in households makes it very difficult and the reason I don't have Isaac. Thank you for the Jennes suggestion - honestly didn't think of that and will have to take another look at the census. Do you know a Jaynes? my mom thinks she is the lone survivor and would be thrilled to learn if that's not true!

Ella and her husband Isaac are listed as Janes in 1910 and still living in Philadelphia City, PA. It is possible the last name is Jennes in 1900, but I am not sure. I can't find them either in 1920...nor can I find him/her in 1880.

Do you know who the William E. Janes is listed in the household of Harrison in 1920? It lists him as his father, but if he was Ella's father his age is off. So, I have no idea what is going on with Ella & Isaac.

If anyone has any information I would really appreciate it!

Harrison was my grandfather and I can not find any information at all on his parents. I can locate him from 1900 on out but because of missing 1890 census information I find no roots. I found him with Ella in Philadephia in 1900 and Ella is listed as his sister although 16 years older and is married to Isaac Jenner -- then no history of that family after 1900 and no history of Ella prior.
Hi Anna.

This is really kind fo you, but I think I was mistaken about the connection. I have a great-aunt named Bertie Jaynes, not Gertie, who married Arthur Hailey, not Beattie.

Please don't go to any more trouble on my account, but thank you so much!

Annette

Kim, who ever told you that you would be related to anyone who spells Jaynes with a "y" is mistaken. All surviving branches of my family use it, but we started out "Janes" and some of us changed in the late 1800's.

I was looking for info on my family and saw your posting. I believe the man you are describing was my great-grandfather. We have him in our records as marrying Anna on 9/9/1875. They had two sons - Frank, born in 1876 and Jesse (my grandfather) born in 1879. They said he left without word when my grandfather was about a year old. That family is from Kentucky. I would be interested in knowing if you found anything else on him.
