Yes, it is an unusual name... and I thought it would be a doddle to research. However, it is proving to be a real brickwall!

We now think that Joseph's parents were called Joseph and Sarah - but, despite extensive research, it is still a case of 'we think' rather than 'we know'!

There are other Jealous' around... but definitively linking them with Joseph is not proving easy!!

Is anyone researching the JEALOUS family from Kent? We are particularly interested in learning more about Joseph Jealous who was born c.1852 in Charlton, Kent. I believe his father's name may also have been Joseph, but I don't know where or when he was born.

Joseph Jealous (born 1852) married Sarah RYDER in 1877 in Shoreditch. He was a bricklayer and died in 1905.

I have a Martha Jealous, or a Laura Martha Jealous. They were around the late 1880
Another Jealous I came across was a very old grave, he died in the mid 1880'a They lived in Manitoba, in the south west region, near Wawanesa, Brandon,Boissivain, close to U.S. border. Many immigrants arrived here in the 1880' Good luck on your search. tressa17@hotmail.com

I have a Laura Martha Jackson, from Southwest Manitoba, Canada who married a Jealous. I have no first name, This would be in about the early 1900's. In the Methven cemetery around this area is a Harry Jealous, the date read 1856-1913.His plot is quite alone, but close to the Jackson plot. I do not know if he is Laura's father in law or her husband. tressa17@hotmail.com

Charlotte was born in Horley and is said in the family to have eloped with Henry Colgate (my husband's g-g-grandfather)from Plaxtol to Nutfield in Surrey where they had 10 children. I think her father was James but I have no other details - I'd love to know more, especially about the elopement!!
