Hi there,
I have just started looking into my family history. I am looking for information on a William Jeffres (Jeffries) B 1869 D 1937. On his death cert. he lists a W M Jeffres as his father. I know his mother was Nancy Jeffres. I can't find any census for the family until after William is married. He married a Hilla Elizabeth Walker. I would love to find out more about W M and Nancy Jeffres.

There was no La Grange, TN when she was born. In fact, Mary and Robert were founders of La Grange when they moved there from North Carolina.

Sorry for the mixup, but once I entered the wrong info, it was amazing how many trees picked it up and ran with it.

I must seem more trustworthy than I am...

Funeral services were held Sun. at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home for Mrs. Dellie Jeffries, 77, who died Fri. 29 Jul [1960] at her home in Greensburg. Burial was in Pink Ridge Cem., Metcalfe Co. Ky. She was the widow of George Jeffries, and a member of the Pink Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Eugene Edwards,….. [Mrs. Nettie Ann (Frank Gorin) Whitlock, and Mrs. Ethel Rachel (Leo) Adams]
We are sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Della Jeffries of Greensburg. She was a half-sister of Mrs. Dora Jeffries and Mr. Ernest Coomer of this community. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

New Man Jeffries, 69, died unexpectedly at 8:30 am today at his home at Pierce, Green Co. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rhoda Jeffries; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Donham, Hillsboro, Ind., and 2 stepsons, Orville Judd, Liletown, and Jimmy Judd, Indianapolis. The funeral will be at 2 pm Mon. at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home here.

Mr. John Wesley Jeffries, 84, son of the late Mr. Greenie Jeffries and Mrs. Moriah Jane Ennis Jeffries, was born 10 Oct 1887 in Green Co. and departed this life at 12:30 pm Mon 6 Mar 1972 at his home at Pierce. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Trammell Creek Baptist Church at the time of his death. He united in marriage to Miss Pearl Houk 15 Apr 1909 and she preceded him in death 29 Sept 1937. To this union were born 1 son and 3 daughters. Surviving are Ovie Jeffries, Mrs. Evalene Chaudoin and Mrs. Gladys Thompson, all of Greensburg. A daughter, Mrs. Irene Shirrell, preceded her father in death 5 Nov 1971. Mr. Jeffries is also survived by 2 grandsons: Doyle Chaudoin and Mike Thompson, both of Greensburg. The remains were at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home where funeral services were conducted at 10 am Wed. 8 Mar 1972 with burial in the Jeffries Cem. Rev. Manly Towles officiated. Pallbearers were Gordon Judd, Loy Davis, Maxie Houk, Wallace Thompson, Ralph Jeffries and Boyce Davis.

James Woodson Jeffries, of Whitewood, Ky., died 27 Oct 1932 at Norton Infirmary, Louisville, following an operation for cancer of the brain. He was 51 years, 8 months and 2 days old. He was married in 1900 to Miss Emily J. Pierce who survives him; was converted early in life and united with the Greasy Creek Baptist Church later moving his membership to Beech Grove, where he served as deacon for several years, and a few months prior to his death he again moved his membership to the Greensburg Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until the end. His life was a shining light in his community, and he will be sadly missed by his neighbors, friends and relatives. He was an active worker in the church, never missing a service unless providentially hindered. Besides his wife he is survived by 4 sisters, Mrs. G.M. Curry and Mrs. Claud Arnett, of newt; Mrs. Everett Jeffries, of Thurlow; and Mrs. W.A. McKinney of Greensburg. The family has lost a devoted friend, the community a good citizen and the church a true and loyal member, but their loss is Heaven’s gain. Funeral services were conducted at the Greensburg Baptist Church by his pastor Rev. B.J. Skaggs and his former pastor Rev. T.S. Curry and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Thurlow Cem. to a wait the coming of our Lord.

Mike Bryant Jeffries, 66, son of the late Cager and Nora Jeffries, was born in Green Co. 4 Feb 1900 and died 5 Jun [1966] at 11 pm after a short illness. He was a member of the Liletown Methodist Church. He was married to Miss Lee Brown Beard in 1926, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons: Robert Keith Jeffries and Kurtis Lowe Jeffries, both of Greensburg; 1 brother, Everett Jeffries, Louisville; 2 sisters, Mary Lou Matney of Columbia and Sallie Hendricks of Greensburg and 1 grandson, Phillip Wayne Jeffries. Funeral services were held Tues. 7 Jun at 2 pm at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home with burial in the Liletown Cem. Rev. Harold Chattin and Rev. Maxie Hodges officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Raymond Pruitt, Rollin Pruitt, Carmon Robertson, Clifford Lile, Delmas Atwell and Rual Wilcoxson.

She is survived by a son, James Judd of Huntsville, Alabama; 2 half sisters, Mrs. Margaret Sanders, Louisville and Mrs. Verna Perkins, Newt; 1 half brother, Mr. Ed McAllister, Charleston, SC; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral home Sun. 8 Nov at 2:30 pm with burial in the Old Liletown Cem. Rev. J.W. Rayburn and Rev. Earl Wingler officiated. Pallbearers were Victor V. Judd, Clavis Judd, Joe Judd, Keith Jeffries, Murriell Thompson, and Odell Perkins.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Mrs. Marvin Stephens, Mrs. Wood Ervin, both of Sulphur Well; Mrs. Hattie McFarland, Edmonton; Mrs. Hastel England, Beaumont; Mrs. Stark Oakes, Greensburg; 2 sons, Cecil and Roy Jeffries, both of Beechville. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Edmonia McKinney. After her death he married Miss Beulah Mitchell who has been death for several years. Funeral services were held by the Rev. Sherman Ferguson Sat. afternoon at Pink Ridge Baptist Church and burial was in the church cem.

Sorry to be getting in so late but just getting started looking. I am descended through Hansford-William C.-John M. The war records for Tolliver are for the war of 1812 as he was not born until 1787 unless his father was also a Tolliver and I don't think so. Would love to know for sure who Tolliver's parents and siblings were if anyone could clue me in

Hi. My great grandmother was Jim's niece, Cecille Jeffries. She said her daddy moved her and her family south from Ohio to Arkansas then Texas and Jim took off to California. The brothers took off from Ohio due to a family disagreement that split the family forever. Neither brother returned to their Ohio roots. We have actual family photographs that have been passed down in my family from my great grandmother of Jim and even spoke of him throughout her life. However she has since passed in 89. But my grandmother has her documents and photographs. We were talking with her about our family history and did not know what really happened with Jim's family and our family in Ohio.

My great grandmother Cecille Jeffries is Jim Jeffries, the boxer, niece. She passed in 89 but her only child, my grandmother, is very interested in connecting some of the pieces and maybe some living distant cousins. Can you tell mr what happened with the other Jeffries that were lost touch with.

He was my great grandmothers's uncle. I know kind of what happened through her. But, she passed in 89. The family split and Jim went to California and my great great grandfather moved our family to Texas.

My William Jeffries line left VA about 1791 and went into GA. I don't have an Alexander in my records. While in VA my Jeffries were in King and Queen Co, and Richmond Co. I was hoping I had something to help, but guess not. Sorry. Anne

Eli Jeffries bought Mildred Timbers from Alexander Jeffries' estate in 1844. There were other slaves sold at the same time. My theory is that Rachel, the oldest slave and sold to Moses Jeffries, is their mother.

Does anyone have information about the slaves? Many slaves owners listed their slaves in the family Bible. Is there a Jeffries' family Bible?

If I have this all figured out right, with my aunt, you are my 5th cousin.
William Calvin had 9 children, with Sophia & my g-grandfather Roy Dean Jeffries being siblings.
Sophia & James Robert Nichols had 8 children.
Clyde & Pearl were the ones that went to visit in Lancaster, because Pearl was related to Grandma Evafae through the Webster's and Schupbach's.

My grandparents used to go to Lancaster,MO and visit your grandparents. My grandmother,Evafae (Schupbach)Jeffries is still alive @100 & living on her own. She tells me stories about going to Lancaster on Saturday night to visit family and getting grocies, then going to see Billy Hall and his circus animals. My Grandpa Olin helped him buy his horses, and good livestock.
I would love to visit with you and give you all the info and photos that I have. I have found family all over the U.S. and have met them. I have set up a couple of reuniouns in Lancaster, and Green City, MO. where some of the Jeffries live. Contact me @

DOD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device Sept. 8 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Pfc. Douglas J. Jeffries Jr., 20, of Springville, Calif.

So far I can only go back on my line to circa 1800. During the Industrial Revolution, it appears they all went to Manchester, England (they were sawyers, lumber mill owner and owner of a stamp manufacturing co.)

My line is stuck in Virginia. All the records were burned during the revolutionary war and we don't have the father of Alexander. There are thousands of us on this line who are stuck. If we can get the final piece of the puzzle. We know that there are many Georges, James, and Alexanders. Your line may be the link. If you have information on the immigrants who came here we might be able to fit the line in. The written tree says we came from Wales or England. That is all.

I'm from the English side of the Jeffries (I can go back to circa 1800 in Manchester, England). Family lore goes back to Baron George Jeffrys (the Hanging Judge) (1644-1688)who was the chief judge of James II. George's father was from Wales.

I am trying to find information on my 4th great grandparents David Jeffries and Sarah Ellis. he was born in 1788 to robert and margaret ? jeffries. he died feb 1818 in LA Territory. Sarah was born abt 1789 in Kentucky to Isaac and Nancy ? Ellis. and she died 1829 Indiana (poss jennings county). there children were margaret, nancy, catherine, susannah, isaac ellis, rebecca, john, mary, and Elizabeth. Thanks :)

Does anyone know who this lady and kids are? Someone in my family says the last name is Jeffries. They are from Cedarville, Ohio in Greene County. I think it might be Eliza Jones who married Thomas Tracy and then married Riley Jefferies. I am not sure.
