Hi - I could use some help sorting out the Gumley Jelleys. My ancestor, George Jelley b. 8 April 1832 was the son of Samuel and Mary. He and his brother, John, married Mawby sisters from Arnesby. George married Elizabeth (Betsy) and John married Lucy. Elizabeth Jelley died in 1873. Afterward their family splintered. Her oldest son, Remus, had emmigrated with her parents, Simon and Mary Mawby, to Ohio. About 1882 the other sons, John and Walter Jelley also emmigrated. A younger sister, who was raised by one of George's sisters - Sarah Jelley - married to Richard Burnnett emigrated in 1908 with her husband, daughter, and George Jelley. George died in Michigan in 1915.
So many of the Jelleys in Gumley seemed use the same first names with no middles names that I find it difficult to separate them.

I am trying to find connections to my husband's family. In 1860 Baltimore, great grandparents Thomas and Lydia Rankin Armstrong lived near the Joseph Jelley family. When their youngest son was born in 1869, he was named David Jelley Armstrong. Lydia was from County Antrim, Thomas is an unknown. Any bells ringing?

Hi David,
Great to hear from you. My Mother Barbara was also born a Jelley. Her Father was Walter Thomas Jelley (1909-1970), Son of Rosina Avery and Arthur Thomas William Jelley (1879-1956). Who is the the Son of Albert John Jelley (1855-1900). We have been trying to find out about Rosina as she is a bit of a mystery, but I am unable to go back further or find out info on her. I know my Grandfather Walter hated his Father so much, that he changed his name by Deed Poll after My Mother was born and took his Mothers Maiden name and from there on was known as Thomas Avery, He had such a sad upbringing as he was placed in a workhouse in St Olavs London, with his Brothers. His Mother Rosina left them there taking a new baby Daughter Rosina Jnr with her. She died ages 4 months of TB, I do not know what happened to Rosina Senior, or why if the Father (Arthur Thomas William Jelley) was still alive that all the children came to be in the workhouse. I did not know that some of the Jelley's were transported to America??
Regards
Jeanette

Hi i just came across this blog and I am able to fill in a few blanks. Your gr. grandmothers name is Elizabeth Gallie. She married Thomas Gelley and they had 10 children; Adrienne, Charles, Wilhemina, Maurice (aka George), Blanche, Thomas, Yvonne-Marie, Lucille, Marguerite, and Estelle. When Elizabeth passed away Thomas married Francis Dowling. Together they had 4 children; Cecile, Denise, Francoise-Louise, and Gerard. Thomas (b1894) the youngest of the three boys registered last for WWI and followed his brothers Charles(b1886) and George (b1889)into the Canadian Over-seas Expeditionary Force. We are related through your gr grandfather Thomas. My father is Gerard. I am working on updating info on our history current and past.

My name is Megan Jelley. I'm 26 years old. I dont know much about my families past and am really curious as to where we came from. My dad's father died long before I was ever born and I would love to find out more about his past. His name was Edward Jelley and he lived in Connecticut as a doctor. Married to Regina Jelley. I need to ask my dad about dates he was born and died which I know will be of more help. My whole life I have thought I was Irish, but from reading everyone else's posts, I could be Scottish! How funny!
