Berbers are not from South Africa but from North Africa and are nomadic Arabs and they are probably the ancestors of your Spanish ancestors because of the occupation of Spain by the North African Muslims called (mostly) The Moors (from Mauritania) who were kicked out of Spain by El Cid...

Since the Spanish came to America first, the Italian Captain Christopher Columbus, was sent by the King & Queen of Spain, Ferdinand & Isabella in 1492 - then it's possible that your 100% European ancestry may only be mistaken in the long straight dark hair and dark tan skin being Spanish instead of Native American - that has happened to many people, including many African Americans who had ancestors with very straight black hair and their DNA said they were European and African descent but they had been told they had Native American ancestors but the Spanish men with straight black hair marrying Africans or other mixed Euro-African women and vice versa would explain the ancestors looking like they were Native American when they actually have Spanish and/or Portuguese ancestors with straight black hair and tan or brown skin whose own ancestors could be Arab.

Dr. Gates has explained to many African Americans who thought they had Native American ancestors, and they had photos, that they were Euro-African with no genes from Native Americans. I'm guessing those straight black haired ancestors were of pure Spanish or Portuguese and possibly Arab descent who looked like Native Americans although I've never heard Dr. Gates say that.

That would be nice, but for now I can see them in the tree : ), I am a Choate, I am a Cherokee, a Shawnee and a Powhatan. But, I am also geneticly Spanish, Berber and Lebanese. My grandfather Jenkins, was Welsh as far as I know from his father, but he called himself low German from his mother and said he had some indian. His wife, my grandmother also said she had a lot of Indian, she is Chactaw on her father's side through a grandmother, and Cherokee on her mother's side through a grandmother. I am genetically showing 100% northern European. My brother too, shows this, but because he is a Y, too, his came back, Irish, Basque, British, French, and He is R1b, which is said to be the dominate Cherokee haplogroup, this would be through my direct sir name, and it goes out to the Powell's and Taylor's and just stops. I am told the Cherokee connection is through the Powell's. Through my known European ancestors, most got her long before 1776, and they all came from the East toward the west through places like James Town Virginia. I am a grand daughter of Pocahontas's and of her sister Cleopatra, and yet I show 100% northern European, which happens to lead to Spanish, which most people know, the Berbers in South Africa, and the Lebanese. So I am not worried about proving anything anymore, more concerned as to how it is being proved and for what reason. Peace. T

23andMe has a whole string of people that have an oral history and not markers they can find. It is my understanding that the mtDNA only traces the direct female line, and the male, Y DNA only traces the male direct line, that looks like a V with the person tested int the middle. There is a lab that you can uses that says they will look for markers up to 5 generations. What they are looking for, as far as I have read is a 75% Asian, and 25% European mix. My Jenkins ancestory is my mothers father, so other than finding cousins, the DNA test I took at 23andMe, would not show his DNA. For me, I am woman so it only shows my mother's direct line. From this test I am 100% northern European, and I know some of my Native American ancestors names. So this test shows who you are in a direct line from you male and female DNA only. The rest has to be figured out, and I reviewed 23andMe messaging on this subject to check and many people who have an Oral history do not find markers. I have an oral history for Choctaw, and Cherokee. I see a line in my family that started with the Powhatan and came through the Shawnee and wound up Cherokee, and that line has a French Norman immigrant as a grandfather. So to me, finding Native American history is hard, as their names were not typically recorded prior to the trail of tears. Prior to that they were undocumented for the most part. I have a strong oral history on mom and dad's side of the family, and from those I know who have been hard at work looking for their known Native relatives, I've been told you have to believe your oral history, because that may be all you find.

That would be interesting to find out about the markers, because I have mine with 23andMe too, and it only goes back to 5 generations, my native American people go back farther than that to the Powhatan.

Most Native Americans from the East Coast have been DNA tested and there are very specific markers for the different Tribes.

Try having your DNA done by 23andme.com or familytreeDNA - both are quite accurate - 23andme provides DNA health results too, not just family tree information.
My grandfather had stories, he was from Oklahoma. I know my grandmother his wife did. It took a long time to find it. If there are, the reason it may be hard to find, is we would not have been on the trail of tears, therefore undocumented. It will most likely not show up in our blood or a DNA test because the Natives from the East Coast are not yet tested and probably have origins from Basque, French, and Israelite, because they got here during the ice age, and would most likely be genetically European.

My aunt has a copy of this book (The Jenkins Family Since 1785) in storage somewhere along with all of her other genealogy research. I've been meaning to get with her about borrowing it.

Anyway, my family line goes: Amos Jenkins (1783), Realvy Jenkins (Forgot birth year right now. I think 1806.), John Jenkins (1843), John Jenkins (1880), Alva Jenkins (1906), Eugene Jenkins (1931), Gregg Jenkins (1956), then me.

I'm coming up with some pretty good information, but still have a few blanks to fill. Feel free to shoot me a message with any questions or useful information you might have. Maybe we could help each other out.

Tyler J.

David Solomon Jenkins (David Jenkins, Solomon Jenkins, born 1902)

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to research my Great Grandfather. He was born around 1902 in Ohio to Ambrose J Jenkins and Alice Mays (Jenkins). The family later moved to West Virginia. David Solomon later married Mary L. White, and they had a child, William Edward Jenkins.

Early in his life, it appeared (based on census forms), he went by David or David S. Later in life, he seemed to be using Solomon (or Soloman).

The last record I can find of him is the 1930 census. He was 28 and living in West Virginia, working as a welder.

Family lore says he was a bit of an outlaw and died in a bar shooting. Our Great Grandmother passed down the tale that he died in "the war," perhaps to cover this up (I can find no war records for him).

I'd like to find out how he died, as well as when and where. I can find absolutely no information on his death -- I suppose it's also possible he just ran off. I've attached a picture of him. If anyone has any information, please contact me. Thank you!

Amos Jenkins and Jane? also had a daughter, Sarah aka Sally Jenkins who married George Blake in Greenbrier County, WV/Va about 1795. That fact was confirmed from the marriage record.

I also believe that my 4th great grandmother, Mary Jenkins who married Chandler Arthur on May 7, 1796 was also a daughter of Amos. I just cannot prove it.

By the way, the marriage record for Azariah to Nancy Cavendish has her name as Anne Ford. She was married to Francis Ford prior to her marriage to Azariah. She and Azariah were married on Feb. 7, 1791 in Greenbrier County.

Anita McClung
Fayette County, WV

Hello! My name is Joanne and my husband Ken's grandfather is Caleb Jenkins born c. 1902 (married Madeline Adams), born in Kent County, Delaware (as were all the fathers). Caleb moved to New Castle County, DE. His father was James A. Jenkins born c. 1880 (married Lola Faries), his father was Andrew M. Jenkins born 1847 (married Ruth A. Wooters), and his father is William Jenkins, and he is the one I am having trouble with. I think William was born sometime around 1815. His son Andrew was born in 1847...his mother is Sallie Ann Galston??. I think she died. William was living separately (next door to each other) from Andrew when Andrew was only 4 years old in summer 1850 (census record). Just months after the census, there is a record that says William married Mary A. Carter in Sept. 1850. In 1869 I have another record that William marries Mary A. Crozier and has a son in 1871 named Willie. I can only find marriage records for William and his wives. Again, they were all from Kent County, Delaware.
If you might know anything about this Jenkins Family from Delaware, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You....JP

I believe I have found Mattie in the 1920 Lincoln, Mississippi census and the 1930 Adams, Mississippi census. She is listed as a widow in both. She is Mattie Gibson age 31 on the 1920 census. On the 1920 census she has Roy Hamam age 13, Ruby Hamam age 11, and Floyd Hamam age 9. There is also a son Steve Gibson age 4. In the 1930 census Mattie is listed with son Steve age 14, daughter Ruth age 9, and son Floyd Haymon age 19. Right below this entry is one for Moese Hastings with wife Ruby and their 2 children. Ruby and Moese Hastings are my husbands ancestors. All of this leads me to believe that this is Mattie Josephine Jenkins. All of the dates and places fit. If this is our Mattie, then I am thinking she was either never married to Jesse or Jesse died between 1910 and 1915. I am still trying to prove that this is our Mattie.
Searching for parents, siblings and children of Joseph Jenkins b abt 1823 In Charleston, S C and migrated to Lowndes County, Georgia abt 1850. Date of death is unknown, but the 1910 census does not show him, so death should be between 1910-1920. Per the 1900 census he married Eliza/Lizza Butler, i have been told, also from S C in 1858. Known children were Emma b 1846 in S C, Silvy b 1850, Georgia b 1851, Margaret b 1853, Alice/Alace b 1859, Brown J b 1859, Coaster (my grandfather) b 1865 and James b 1868 (all had surname of Jenkins and born in Lowndes County, Georgia). Per the 1900 census, Lizza birthed 14 children and only 3 were living. I would truly like to know where I came from so that I can truly know who I am. Please send any information to canderson000@yahoo.com. Thanking you in advance.
