Rebelhed1, I have read Thomas Jeremiah's diary written during the time he fought at Waterloo under Wellington. Even though Thomas inlisted 6 months before John Jeremiah and they came from Goytre, I have not been able to connect the two. Do you have information that would connect them? Both of their stories are valuable. John mustered out in May 1820. He was in Ireland at that time. I believe he married Catherine 8 Oct. 1820 in Trevethin, Monmouthshire, Wales. They then had nine children. My research has been to document the children and then document their daughter Rachel's children as well. I would so love to hear more from you. Thanks for your query,
Lois Woods, Page, Arizona USA

Jo, How good to hear from a family member. I have been working on this family for about 20 years and have slowly documented missing pieces. I am not done by any means, but would be glad to share what I have and hear what you have as well. Rachel and James Carey's youngest daughter Emily is my great grandmother. She died before I was born but I knew her husband Thomas Biggs who died in 1961 when I was 10 at age 99.
Thomas Biggs son Thomas is my grandfather and his daughter Jean is my mother.
I have also worked on John Jeremiah and Catherine's family and have found 9 children. You could say he haunted me until I found them. I have continued to try and find where in Ireland Catherine was born.
I live in Arizona, USA. Would love to hear more from you,
Lois

I already replied to you once. My Gran was your Grans sister Lilian. I already posted a link with all the Jeremiah family tree on.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&...

I cannot see how far you have gone with your family tree without taking out a subscription to Ancestry. So anyway all your family on that side is the same as mine basically. You might want to read Thomas Jeremiahs diary,if you go back thru this thread there is a link to Amazon where you can buy it,it is a very interesting read.

Hi- my Great Grandmother was Carrie Jeremiah B-1889(she died at 33 years of age sadly I believe) - her father was John Jeremiah- seems to be differnt dates on some of the recoreds stating 1845 and 1848. I see you have on your link.. two ladies names next to Johns- Emma alias Elinor..my Mother has told me that she was led to believe that Elinor was the 1st wife & Emma was the 2nd wife. Could you let me know how the alias came about as I am researching into the family tree now in depth if I can. Very complicated it is becoming..

Thanks for sharing the link to the surname. If you or anyone wishes to contact me due to any connections that would be great and a big help as I am new to this family tree business. Carrie and her husband- Mr Dunstans children were named -Moira, Lilliane, Irene, Violet, Ken - I believe there was another female that died. Irene was my grandparent. (Nana)

Thanks JK.
I have recently discovered that Vera had 3 brothers (Abraham, Isaac & Thomas) as listed in the 1901 census. There are probably a few more, but I will have to wait until the 1911 census is published for the Monmouthshire area.

Her father was Isaac Jeremiah (b 1876) who married Sarah Ann Watkins in Jul 1898 in the district of Panteg.

Isaac's father was John Jeremiah (b c1834) who married around 1855 (I have a name Elizabeth Jones, but not confirmed yet).

If you have any information on this branch of the Jeremiah family it would be appreciated.

If I was you I would do a search for your ancestor on the 1911 census. You might have to wait for a bit because I believe that the area she came from is not yet available but will be in the future. Try here:
http://www.1911census.co.uk/

If Vera is a Jeremiah then she would have huge family links in the Pontypool/Goetre area.

Just joined and am looking at my paternal grandmother's tree she was Sarah Jeremiah born 1899 daughter of Benjamin and Rachel Jeremiah. I have information that Jenkin, Benjamin's brother went to America with his wife Sarah where Azariah Benjamin Jeremiah was born. I don't know how long they were there but Sarah died on 4th June 1878 back in Wales and is buried in Treorchy cemetery. Jenkin married again in 1883 to an Ann Evans.Hope this is helpful. I am interested in Bejamin's mother Margaret Evans and her connection with Pengelli Farm Treorchy.Do you have any info? Thanks.

Patrick: Here is my Jeremiah information. I only know them from America on, though. Let me know if we are connected at all. Good luck with your search. Please keep me in mind if you find others with my line. Thank you.

Barb

Family: JEREMIAH

David Jeremiah (1839 - 04-14-1891) met Margaret Mazy (1834 - 11-04-1900) both born (and married in Wales around 1855). They came to America after 1858 and they probably went to Mercer County, Sharon, Pennsylvania but, were living in Mahoning County, Youngstown, Ohio before 1861. They had eight children Thomas, Ester (1858 - 09-03-1906) who died of stomach trouble, both were born in Wales, Enoch, John, Richard, David, Margretta and William C, who was my mothers maternal grandfathers father. The rest of the children were born in Youngstown. Margaret was a housewife. David was a coal miner, as were most of the Welsh. They lived in Trumbel County, Vienna Township, Ohio during the 1880 census. He died at age 55 in Youngstown. He is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. She lived at Paines Corners then she lived at 655 Erie Street, both of Youngstown, the later being her place of residence upon her death. She died in her home of a respiratory related problem (either asthma or bronchitis). The funeral service was at 12:30 in her home and at the Welsh Baptist church at 1:00 p.m. She is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery section 1152 with Esther, Margretta, Richard, William and their wives, plus her husband.

Thomas Jeremiah (1856 - 01-02-1922) was born to David and Margaret Mazy Jeremiah in Wales. He is the owner of the Oak Hill Cemetery lot in Youngstown that his brothers, sisters and parents are buried in. He possibly lived in Trumbull County, Vienna Township, Ohio. He lived at 491 West State Street down the street from his brother David, in Sharon PA.

Ester (1858 - 09-03-1906) was born to David and Margaret Mazy Jeremiah in Wales. She died of stomach trouble and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in section 1152 with her parents and a few brothers, their wives and her sister.

Enoch Jeremiah (03-1861 -01-20-1950) born to David and Margaret Mazy Jeremiah in Ohio. She was buried originally at Oak Hill Cemetery in Youngstown but was re-interred at Belmont Cemetery in Youngstown section Elm 84 site B grave 4 in the George Webster family ploy, possibly Madge's father. Enoch remarried Margaret "Madge" Webster Evans Jeremiah (1873 - 02-21-1951). She had been married to ? Evans before she married Enoch. She lived at 18 John Street Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio during the 1900 census. Enoch died in Mahoning county, Youngstown, Ohio. Good luck in your search.

http://homepage.mac.com/billwesco/PS11/PS11_462.HTML

I am the ggggrandaughter of John Jeremiah of New York who moved to Maryland then, to Cincinnati with son Robert born MD. I Have known that my grandfather said that we were Penn.Dutch. I wonder if you have seen the entries that many claim to be their Jeremiah relatives on the Family tree portion of this site. They are mentioning Phoebe Halstead and I have seen the New York,Maryland and Ohio City Directories and it appears that John Jeremias Ballenberger comes to Germany to US then to New York and settles there with Jane. John married Effie Mclellan in 1816 in MD.
I show a John married to Jane in New York and as soon as he dies in 1816,ironically my John Jeremiah is married in Maryland. However, the Jeremiah's I see related to John Jeremiah do not list Robert.
Can you help me sort this out? Thanks,Joyce Meyer(nee Jeremiah)

My 4th great grandmother was a Margaret (Coe) Jeremiah. She was married to Wm James Jeremiah. There children were William T., Mary Jane, James, and Sarah Ann. We don't have much information on Margaret, as a matter of fact, that is as far as we have been able to go back on her ancestry. I hope that we are talking about the same ancestor.

Hello All
I have been fascinated to read this thread. I cannot see any obvious connection to my Jeremiah family, also from Goytre/ Llanover, but for years have been puzzled by the fact that my gg grandafther Joseph Jeremiah changed his surname to Joseph Morgan. Was there another scandal on the Jeremiah side causing them to revert to Morgan or did they discover the earlier sleight of hand and decide to revert to their true surname.
The Jereiah/Morgan change seems too much of a coincidence for my family to be unrelated although in our case the change occurred after 1871. My Joseph Jeremiah was the third of seven known children born to Philip Jeremiah and Margaret. According to the 1851 census Philip was born abt 1793 in Goytre although he was then living at Pistillgwyn, Llanover. Thus he would have been a contemporary of John Jeremiah Morgan and Thomas Jeremiah. If anyone can help make connections I would be really pleased to hear from you; this change of name has driven me mad for years.
Kind regards,
Molly

Dear Cenydd Owain,

I would enjoy reading and studying a copy of Thomas Jeremiah's diary and comparing ancestor research that you have done thus far. I would be glad to reimburse you for your expenses or costs incurred in copying and sending the information. Please send me what you estimate the cost would be.

Sincerely yours,
Lois J. Woods
PO Box 2404
Page, Arizona, USA 86040

Thanks for your reply,
Your story was very interesting, my ancestors came from Goytre and all of the Jeremiahs who were there seem to be related to each other. I have traced my family back to about 1725 on the jeremiah side, I was looking for a morgan jeremiah pre 1725. Funny you should say about the battle of waterloo because Thomas Jeremiah who was my great great great great uncle fought in the battle and has left a diary in the national library of wales with details of his early life and joining the Royal welch fusilliers on the 27 nov 1812 and the battle of waterloo in 1815. I wonder if your John was maybe a relation to thomas jeremiahs family. There does seem to be many John Jeremiahs around in Goytre.

We have a family legend that our ancestor John Jeremiah Morgan was before 1851, John Jeremiah. He was supposedly the longest lived survivor of the battle of Waterloo. He did indeed participate in the battle, joined when he was 19. Some time later he was in Ireland with the 23rd Foot---Royal Wech Fusiliers, fell in love with an Irish lass. Her uncle (father, guardian or ?) was so angry that he cut off all of her hair. John was going to kill him. The girl said that she would run away and marry him if he left the ? relative alone. They appear later in Goytre with their first son of 10 children born in 1823. I later descovered that John was born two years before his dad, John Jeremiah Junior and his mother Mary Morgan were married.
On his daughter Rachel's marriage certificate he and his daughter have the last name of Morgan.
Does any of that sound similar to your situation?

Hello,
I wonder if any relations to the Jeremiah family have a old story like my family that the family surname used to be Morgan. I have been told that a Jeremiah Morgan was in trouble with the law and changed his name to Morgan Jeremiah. As I have all ready traced my family back to 1745 I would think that this event took place before that date. I have found one other reference to this event. Please anyone with any info leave a message. thank you.
