Hi My name is Samantha Hall and just per chance I decided to put my grandfathers name into google to see what came up and WOW. My grandfather as far as I am aware has the surname Tabana and lived in Alligator Pond, Jamaica as did my late grandmother Eunice Powell, and my mother Deloris Meek (nee Tabana)She has a brother George Ellington and another brother Oswald (can't recall his surname) I would love to know if there is a connection.

The mother of Mary McRoberts was Mary Ruddock, older sister of my gggg grandfather, William. They were from Dromore, County Down. William's wife, my gggg grandmother, was Ann Jess, so she was presumably related to Philip too.

Josie is my husband's great aunt. We would love to get information about her and her family. In fact, we'll be in Bernard/Garryowen this July to visit PC Noonan's farm where Josie grew up. Anything you wish to share is most appreciated - especially the photo, obits, grave info, etc.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Yes Johanna is Josie. Her father Patrick died when she was 5mo old. Josie was about 5yr old when PC Noonan became her step father. Before that she lived with her mother and grandparents.

Josie Jess is my gg grandmother. She was born 19 Sep 1874 in Bernard, IA (or Garryowen, IA) She died 16 Jun 1928. She married my gg grandfather John Francis Donovan in Jun 1893. They had 7 children together. 3 boys and 4 girls. I have full information on all of them. I have a photo of Frank and Johanna with their first two children as well as grave and obit information. Let me know if you are interested in any of the information.

Robert McCroskrie Jess was born about 1901 to David and Agnes Jess (Jesse) nee McCroskrie. I'm not sure of the location but possibly around Ayrshire in Scotland. He died in Western Australia in 1967.

Other children to David and Agnes were Samuel, Margaret and Agnes - I'm not sure if there are any others.

According to Census records, David Jess (Jesse) was born in Co Down Ireland in about 1864. Unfortunately I have not been able to find out any more information than that.

There seems to have been some confusion in our family tree done many years ago with a David Jess who married Mary Wason Brown who also had a child called Robert very similar in age and also around the Ayshire region. I have since discovered their son Robert died around 1917, and has been linked to our tree incorrectly.

If anyone has any info that could help me progress I would really appreciate it.

Glad to make your acquaintance. I am a relative down the line from an older brother of your g-g-grandfather, Casper Cooper. I have information that goes one more generation farther back into the past, to Casper's parents: David and Martha (Hinkle) Cooper. That is where our information reaches a dead-end. I would be very pleased to learn that your line has someone with additional information from back in that era. But, of course, I would also like to learn whatever you can provide in the other direction as well. I have your father and one brother as the only children of Vinton and Alice (Jess) Cooper. I have no information on your generation, for either your line or that descending from your uncle Robert. I don't even have their spouses' names, any dates (birth, marriage, etc.) and would be very happy to fill in those and many other blank spots.

Does anyone in your line, or among your uncle's descendants, have an interest in genealogy and perhaps some interest in sharing information?

I just found this post and was curious...My great great grandfather was George Jesse from ireland and from what i could find it was said the name originates in CO Down...have you heard of this spelling of the name ...im unable to find hardly anything about it and his ny census record says hes from ireland but cant find anything...any info would be greatly appreciated

I am searching for info on Florence Jess. She is my Mom's biological mother. Mom was born in 1928 in Minneapolis, MN. Florence Jess (her bio mother) was from SD and a school teacher by profession. Chris, According to the 1880 census, Patrick Jess & Lettia Burke had a daughter, Josie b. abt 1875. I haven't been able to find anything else on her. PC Noonan (Lettia Burke's 2nd husband) left $700 to Johanna (Jess) Donovan from Dubuque. I think this may be their daughter, Josie. Do you have any info on this missing child?

Funeral Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street. Bryan Whitlock will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be Roger Whitlock Jr., Cameron Whitlock, and Roger Whitlock III. Casket bearers will be Mike Smith, Bryan Whitlock, Jody Whitlock, Charles Whitlock, Brett Whitlock, and Kyle Smith. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family in care of Mike Smith.
Rebecca was born on March 22, 1946, in Muscatine, the daughter of Chester and Frances Potoff Smith. She married Joseph L. Jess on August 28, 1982, in Barstow, California.
She was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1965.
She had worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Barstow, California, and she worked as a home health aide in Muscatine.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, and target shooting.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Jess of Muscatine; four sons, Mitchell ‘Mike’ Smith and wife, Tracy, of Wilton, Roger Whitlock Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Muscatine, Bryan Scott Whitlock and wife, Darlene, of Fort Madison, and Jody Whitlock of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Beverly Warner of Pleasant Valley, Nancy Smith of Barstow, California, and Diane Standeford of Williamsport, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

We are running out of live Tabana contacts so it was good to hear from you that you are also searching for Tabana roots
My Mother was Hilda May Tabana daughter of Cecil Tabana. She had two brothers Arnold,called Papa and George,called Taba and a sister Morelda who married and became Nelson

Cecil had two sisters Thelma and Cecile. Thelma Had a daughter who I knew as C.
The family hails from Victoria Town and Alligator Pond in Manchester. The family roots is in fishing though Cecil later owned a restaurant in Kingston

In your search or opinion does this information conects you to any of these Tabanas? . I now have several authenticated documents confirming this information.

Alice Jess married Vinton Cooper and they had two known children: Robert and James. In the 1950s they lived in Bluff City, KS. Vinton's parents were William and Lorena (Strong) Cooper. The previous generation was Casper and Rebecca (Edgerton) Cooper of Freeport, KS. I would like to trace both these Cooper and Jess lines into our contemporary generations.

I am beginning to search my father's (Lewis Jest-deceased May 1972) family history and have noticed that the last name is JESS in some areas of the history and JEST in others. Both last names are used in Camilla, Georgia where my father's family is from. I know I have family in the Atlanta area and other parts of Georgia.

I am looking for information on Alexander Jess, born approx 1868. He married Elizabeth Hvzdak and immigrated around 1911 from Austria. Together they had at least 5 children, Anna (born in Czechoslovakia in 1892), Michael, Elizabeth (Betty), Nicholas, and Elenor. Anna Jess married Michael Jencovcik (later changed to Johnson). David White's family hailed from RENFREW in Scotland then moved to the Newcastle area (he worked for 'Harland and Wolfe' in the dockyard/on ships)..he went to Belfast and met Sarah Jane JESS whose family I think lived in KILLYLEAGH,County Down..any family members out there?

John David Jess' father was born in Scott's Bay, Kings Co., Nova Scotia in 1877. His father was Ben Jess. Members of this Jess family are descendants of Lisette Payzant from Falmouth, Hants Co., NS.

I use to listen to John Jess while doing the morning barn work in Western MD early every morning. What a great speaker....and an interesting one.
He was one of the voices/man of God who planted a seed, that at a latter date I would accept Christ as my savior.
I always wondered what happened to him...found this on the net.
What a blessing to have heard him.

Philip Jess/e married to Mary Anne McRoberts 1800s

I am trying to help my cousins find the family.
They have Phillip Jess/e from Dromore Parish Down Ireland.
Phillip married Mary Anne McRoberts.
They had serveral children. One was James 24 may 1846 Dromore Parish Down Ireland. They also lived in Ayrshire Scotland--Kilmarnock.
They are on the scottish census 1861/1871 but can't find phillip's death or James did they go back to Ireland???
James Jess married Marion Skelly and had children, one was William Jess. William Jess married Hannah Spiers and also they had children John Jess born 1904.

There were many Jess families in the Dromore area in the townlands of Ballykeel, Drumknockan and Drumlough. If you go to Raymond's County Down website and look at the Dromore section you will read that a James Jess retired, presumably from the Lanark Linen Mills, and returned to Dromore. and his children are named. Griffith's Valuations for Dromore 1863-4.

This is the same family. There were quite a number of siblings, some born in Ireland, others in Maine. If you go to the Jackson Co. websites you will find a reference to a history of Jackson Co, that has a long article on the family.

The Robert that you are refering to looks like the brother of my ggg grandfather, Patrick Jess. I may not have the family quite strung together right yet, but I think they are the same. I have a Robert in my tree that was born in Maine about 1841. He had a brother named Patrick b.1845 and a sister named Catherine b. 1843, both born in Maine. They also had another sister named Johanna b. 1850 in Garryowen, Jackson Co, Iowa. Thier parents were Robert b. 1795 and Johanna b. 1809, both born in Ireland and both, I believe, died in Garryowen. All are present in the 1860 Census Jackson Co. Iowa. Patrick married Letita Burke in 1873 and had a daughter and then died in 1875. I have no other information about this family. Is this the same family that you have? It is very possible that Robert had more brothers that I dont know? Do you know the name of your Roberts parents? Any help will be apprciated. Hopefully this is the same family.

all i know is that elmer jess lived in Milles iowa jackson co iowa and some of his family lived in dubuque co iowa elmer was a deaf mute so we dont know to much about the family if they are german or not

There were two different JESS families in the Dubuque/Jackson County areas of IA. One was German, the other Irish. The Irish Jess family was from Castelgregory on the Dingle Penninsula of County Kerry. They emigrated in the 1830s or so, staying for short while in ME, before settling in IA.
