Sorry for coming late into this thread, but I am direct line of the William Johnsons from Bathley. William/Phoebe nee Herrod had in the family Frederick (aka Frank) Mary, Ellen, James, Thomas and William as in your message. William became a railway engine fireman with NE Railways and travelled to Yorkshire. In 1911 was lodger with Danby family at Muston, East Yorkshire (just outside Filey). Married/cohabited with Maude Danby (eldest daughter)who had Wilfred Danby Johnson (my father) who then later in 1920's moved to Hull where William then lived (by then an engine driver with NE/LNER). John Herrod lived for some period with his daughter in Bathley at the Crown inn
Phil

Hi, Kim. We must somehow be related. Henry A. Johnson was my grandfather. Nell, or Nellie, Jones, first married him, and the result was my mother, Anne Missouri Johnson. Henry died, and Nell married Homer Johnson. They had three children, Jean, Alexander, and John Homer Johnson. Of the four kids, only John is alive. He lives with his wife in Hazlehurst, GA, and my wife and I visted them a year ago this past September.

John still owns Homer Johnson's farm, and his own, in Long Pond. At one point, Homer moved his family to Mount Vernon, GA, and they lived there until both Homer and Nell died. She pre-deceased him.

My mother, Anne Missouri Johnson, married Arthur Schloss, who was a soldier. They remained married until my father, Arthur, passed away in April, 1974. My mother, Anne, passed away on August 6, 2006.'

It is interesting to consider that you and I apparently have the same grandparents.

For what it's worth, I lived on the farm in Long Pond as a very young boy, and in the house on Mt. Vernon also. I was born in Vidalia, GA.

I'm looking for any descendents of William Johnson, who settled in Allen County Indiana around 1840, no matter what the relationship or how distant it is. I do know that in 1850 he married for the third time, a Mary Ball, and had two children, Richard and Frank, sometime in the 1850's. Children by previous marriages were Edward and Sarah in the 1830's, and Amanda, Julia Ann, James, and Jacob in the 1840's. If you have any ideas or connections, please email me. Thanks.

I finally found this case determination by the Supreme Court of Alabama. It did involve the widow Sarah MARTIN who my great great grandfather Mallaleel JOHNSON married.
And was about the estate of Peter MARTIN and his widow and heirs.

I would like to find something relative to depositions or court records in the orphan's courts as well.

Again, thanks for the info that got me to looking.
This is news to me. I was aware Malaleel had married Sarah Martin; she was supposed to be the widow of a Peter Martin, as I recall.

I don't know what happened to end this marriage, but he did move on to Shelby County, Texas, where he married a Sanford woman.

I can't find this book online to either read or purchase; have contacted the UA library to see about getting a copy of these pages. I live in Idaho, so there isn't a choice of going to the library myself.

I guess I can try to contact a friend in the South, who has a friend who is an attorney to see if he has access to this from online legal sources.

I think I'm due to drag out my books again and get to researching again. Malaleel has been my brick wall for a long time. He is an important person in my maternal lineage.

THanks.

The Louellen/Llywellen/Ellen who is the topic of this thread was a Johnson according to the marriage licence records, though the typed out list shows the last name as Gohnson, or something like that.

Thanks for the info on Frances Patton. For some reason my mind was placing her as a slave/servant to Ellen. I assumed that Frances was a dowry gift to Ellen from her parents, whom I've not located.

From what we've been able to collect thus far, on our Johnson ancestors, is that they were from Virginia and were slaveholders there. Mahalallel (who is found as Maller in some census') owned a few, and when he was in Texas, he had one man.

Guess its time to get my materials out and put my thinking cap on--not make assumptions!

The 1870 census shows the Lipscombs (William and Ellen) living with a farmer, along with Ms. Patton.......she was the only one with any personal wealth. It seems like there was only 4 people with any personal estate of the approximately 15 families listed on the form.

I found it interesting that your Ellen Stephens had a sister named Sidney/Sydney. This Ellen has a son, Algernon Sidney. AND, Mahalaleel, when he moved to Texas and married into the Sanford family named his firstborn, which was a daughter, Sidney.

I've printed out your response, and if I come across anything regarding Marshall, I'll contact you here at the board.
Francis Marshall married to Alexander O. Patton Feb 13th 1845 in Marengo County. I found a Richard D. Marshall there but cannont connect him to the King George families.

In the 1850 census Alexander and Francis are in Brewersville and Black Bluff, Sumter County, Alabama -- the King George Court records show they gave power of attorney to J. Brown of King George County and they were living in Sumter County 29th September 1853. I can not find Alexander after that and the Francis Patton, same age, born in Virginia living with the Lipscombs almost has to be my Francis. The Ellen Johnson born in Virginia seems to be the tie- I'll keep looking.

Ellen that I mentioned married a Powell and was widowed in the court records. She is said to have 'left the county' by 1853 due to some legal matter regarding 'tippling houses' so she isn't likely the Louellen Johnson but seems likely to have been related. Thanks, Joanne

Francis Marshall Patton was living with the Lipscomb family and I am trying to find the connection. I would think Ellen might be a cousin - Ellen Stephens born around 1820 but I don't know where the name Johnson comes from.... and I don't know how Francis Marshall Patton ended up in Alabama? Ellen had a sister Sydney

Francis Marshall was only daughter of Richard Marshall and Anna Ross/Rose of King George County, Virginia. Richard Marshall had a brother James Marshall in the Revolution who died with no children; his heirs were the children of his siblings.

The court records show that Francis Marshall married to Alexander O. Patton and were living in Alabama -- I found the marriage record in Marengo County in 1845. They are on the census in 1850 and then Francis lives with the Lipscomb family.

Besides James and Richard Marshall the other siblings were; Nancy who married a Rollins, two daugthers married Crismond and one of them married a Stephens which is where Ellen and Sydney come in. Another married Gabriel LEVI. Joannah married to Thomas King -moved to Alexandria, Va., descendants to Washington DC. John could not be found in the 1840s to distribute the land and Elizabeth died with no heirs. Can't find the parents of these five Marshall children and they are from King George County, the best of my knowledge. Joanne
I believe her name is spelled Llywellen on all the census forms I've seen, or just plain "Ellen". She is shown as married to William Lipscomb in the Marengo County, Alabama census for 1850.

I believe she is the sister of the Malaleel Johnson residing with she and her family; the William Johnson could be either his son, or their youngest brother perhaps.

Malaleel Johnson was born in Virginia. He is my brick wall great great grandfather. I have data on him in his Texas days.

I have found her and William on several census forms. I gather before the War of Northern Agression that they were somewhat well off, but after that dastardly war, he was something like a hired hand, foreman, or perhaps even a sharecropper. I didn't pursue them all the way to the end.

The Baldwin County, Alabama, is of interest to me because Malaleel named one of his daughters with Baldwin as a middle name. Hmmmmm.....

Turlock Daily Journal
Monday, April 18, 1932
Turlock, California

Services Held Today For Ellen Johnson

Mrs. Ellen E. Johnson, a resident of Turlock since 1903, passed away at a local hospital Saturday night, April 16, following a brief illness. She was a native of Wisconsin, aged 49 years at the time of passing.

She came to California and Turlock with her husband in 1903 and resided in this city since that time. Her husband, the late J. E. Johnson, passed away here 13 years ago.

He was a partner with Martin Hedman in the firm known as Hedman-Johnson Hardware Co., one of Turlock’s first stores.

Mrs. Johnson is also preceded by her mother; Mrs. Wilhelmina Olson, who passed away in this city one year ago.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Weller and Eveleth Johnson; one daughter, Luella Johnson; and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Millard and Miss Edith Olson all of Turlock.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 oclock this afternoon, April 18, from the Beulah Tabernacle with the Rev.
Looking for Octa Hedrick / Headrick who was adopted by DAVID L. JOHNSON family of Marshall County, TN around 1900. She was my grandfather's (LOGAN) sister, and he was only four when they were separated and adopted by different families. We know very little about their parents, and hope that the David Johnson family or OCTA'S DESCENDANTS can help us with genealogy research. Thank you!
