Elijah Jefferson Jones 1785-1866 SC>KY>TN - REAL parentage

Researching Elijah Jefferson Jones (21 Jul 1785 in SC-17 Apr 1866 in Madison County, TN). He married Margaret Fentress in Christian County, KY, on 4 Sep 1804. They had at least 6 children together (Lewis, Margaret Ann, Abner, Hardin, Nancy, and Atlas). My line of descent is through their daughter Nancy, who married Calvin J Boon.

The vast majority of family trees online list Elijah as the son of Ebenezer Jones Jr and Susanna Blackmer. But I have found Vital Records that list Ebenezer and Susanna's children and Elijah is not on the list. There is actually room in the dates for Elijah to fit in, but Elijah states more than once on the census that he was born in SC - Ebenezer and Susanna were born and died in Massachusetts and all their listed children were born in Massachusetts, so the possibilities of Elijah being their child are quite remote at this point.

I have firm documentation that traces my line back to Elijah, and of course there is firm documentation from Susanna Blackmer back to the Mayflower, but this one connection between Elijah and Susanna and Ebenezer I cannot document with anything like certainty; it is just repeated by many people, none of whom have any realistic documentation.

Does anyone have a listing of alternate parents for Elijah Jefferson Jones? Or anything on Margaret Fentress' parents for that matter? I will gladly trade documentation I have on Elijah and his children. Many thanks in advance.

On the 1900 MS census, Asa Jones said his Father was born in NC but in 1880, he said he was born in Jerusalem. So, I think his Father was born in Jerusalem, NC. bet. 1790-1830. Common names were Edward Iley, Asa Iley, David Iley and Joseph Walter - all Jones.

Other than my cousins, I have never met anyone else connected with this family, even though I have been researching since 1990.
There was an Edward Jones with descendants who was one of the founders of Bladen in the early 1700s. We are investigating a connection to him, ourselves.

There are a few Jones lines we have encountered in that area of NC. Please confirm you mean "in 1800" not 1900 and I will send you some info later today.

My ancestor (Asa Iley Jones) was born @ 1849 somewhere in NC. I suspect one of his ancestors was named Edward Iley Jones. On the 1880 census, my ancestor said his Father was born in Jerusalem and in 1900, NC. I cannot find my ancestor on the 1850, 1860, or 1870 census reports.

What info do you have on Edward Jones of Bladen Co.?
Thank you.
Hello,

Benjamin Jones was also my Grandfather 6X times.

I have been getting more info on the family and am making progress, but none at all prior to Benjamin.

I have seen conflicting stories of the how many children Benjamin had, most come is 24 males, 1 female. also a couple variations. Also one variation was son John had 25, but that one seems to be out there...

Had seen one entry saying Benjamin had a brother names "Willard"...(I believe)

Had came across an entry talking about 2 brothers during some battle that were from Wales, last name of Jones, but not other info, opened up possibility of these two being part of the 24 unknown.

Most of the Jones's seemed o stay in North Carolina up until the last generation. Lindsey Broadus Jones was my Grandfather in Ellenboro NC. I have been able to find info up to my Granpa Jones, but no further... With my sisters help (Pam Jones (Oester), I just finishewd updating another 2 generations.

I had talked to bobbic2010 from here, her husband has ties back to John Jones. We have talked on line some, but I really need to more.

could you please let me know if you have any luck?

Regular E-mail is Samisacop@aol.com.

Thanks, good luck

Sam Jones
Samuel Ruben Jones Jr.

I'm not sure how much help I am going to provide, but will try.

Here is my lineage back starting with me:
Ronnie Bates
Mother - Shirley Nix Bates
Grandmother - Edith Jones Nix
Great-Grandfather - Benjamin Lafayette Jones
Great-Great-Grandfather - Marion Francis Jones
Great-Great-Grandmother - Celia (Sealey) Cox)

I have no facts, but what I was told by my grandmother was that the woman William Cox married was Cherokee Indian. Her name may never be known for sure, if this is true. She was never allowed to enter her name in the Indian Rolls and lived as a "white" woman. In the pictures I have seen of the Cox children, they do look Native American.

As a side-note, I am also very interested in the descendants who are alive today. I live in Atlanta, GA, but I was born and raised in Oklahoma. My mother still lives in OKC. The majority of my relatives who descended from Benjamin Lafayette Jones all live in Oklahoma. My grandmother was the youngest & passed in 2004, leaving none of the children alive.

James Hubbard is the best source of information on this line. He is on ancestry but his email address is jhubbard9624@msn.com. His mother was Alice, my grandmother's oldest sister.

Colonel (yes, that's his first name) seems to have been adopted or fostered around the age of 12 by David and Lucy Jones, a 45 yr. old blacksmith in Totaro, Brunswick, VA. According to the 1879 Census. (As were Joseph and Charles Bland, it seems). I would very much like to find the Ridley parents of Colonel.

Thank you!

Great, Granddaughter of Colonel.

Rosalind Makris

I am looking for a potential half sister. My father, John T. Jones passed away 2003, but I know that a woman in Arizona claimed to be his daughter. My siblings would like to talk to this woman and find out all of the facts. Seems like my father's siblings won't share or don't have the facts. We have no name.

I'm so glad to hear from you! Your grandfather has been a tough guy to find!

Yes, let's start with my email address. It's ahardy518@aol.com. I'm not sure how much you know about your grandfather's Georgia family but I live in Atlanta, not far from where he and my great grandfather, William Calvin Jones and their siblings were born. Living this close to Macon, where their family spent many of their years, I travel there when I can to visit the local library and courthouse for documentation. I've made some good headway over the last few years with the Jones family research and would be glad to share it with you.

I hope to hear from you soon.
Allison

Mae 'Traethodau ar Gwaun Gynfi' o tua 1868 yn honni fod Foulk Jones Ty Du yn perthyn i Sion Ffowc (Celyn Isaf) , fy 6 x h-daid innau - hwnnw'n byw tua'r un adeg ac yn dipyn o 'wariar' hefyd . Mae llyfr Ceiri Griffith gyda coeden sy'n dangos Foulk Jones Ty dy , ond dim son o gwbl am neb all fod yn fy nheulu i. Mae'r enw 'Foulk' yn ymddangos o nunlle, fel petai , yn Llanberis/Llanddeiniolen tua diwedd y 18fed ganrif , a mae'n rhaid fod yna rhyw reswm.Mae yna Foulk Jones , Foulk Williams , Foulk Morris a Foulk Price ayb . Ychydig fel 'Darren' rhyw 50 mlynedd yn ol neu 'Brittany' heddiw ! .
Yn ol un damcaniaeth, yr oedd rhai ohonynt yn hannu o Foulk Prys (Mab Edmwnd Prys yr emynydd ? ). Mi fuaswn wrth fy modd yn cael gwybod beth oedd gwraidd yr enw, ond mae'n anhebygol o ddod i'r fei, gwaetha'r modd .

They had at least one daughter Sarah, born 1734 in VA; it's likely he had sons also. Nicholas was probably born abt 1700.

I am searching for information on my grandfather.. He was born as Robert Edward Jones 01-27-1929 in I think D.C... he later changed his name to Robert Zacharia Brewer (I don't know why).. His Aunt adopted him as a baby.. Louise Jones Sr 1883 was his aunt.. Laurence Denmead Miller SR b? d1937 was his uncle.. I know the Jones's used to live in D.C. I even know the street address. My grandpa (he passed away but his wife, my grandma) still lives on that street.

He was adopted within the family, the reason for the adoption is because his parents had too many kids and couldn't afford to take care of my grandpa.. so i'm sure whomever his real parents were had alot of kids..

Please any information would be appreciated. Heres a picture of him younger

I am not sure where I got the surname Shehorn for Benjamin Jones' wife Wineford? She was born around 1792 Greensville Va. I see other people have also attached that surname to her. Do you have a record. I also have a marriage date of Dec 27 1813. I don't know how accurate this is as I cannot find a source for that info either. Thanks for any help.
Also could she be the daughter of John Shehorn and Crissy Cato?

This is an update to my previous post with some new information.

James A. JONES and wife, Vianna (sp?) are listed in the 1910 Federal Census as living in Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, near their son, William Benjamin Jones. In this census, James lists his birthplace as WASHINGTON, D.C.

I have found death certificates for both James and Vianna. James died July 13, 1913 in Marshallton, Delaware. Vianna died Nov 11, 1912 in Marshallton, Delaware. Both are buried in Liberty Grove, Maryland.

Children:
Mary C. b. July 26, 1862; d. ?
Walter Pusey b. March 9, 1863; d. Dec 27, 1930 in Delaware
Lincoln L. b. Oct. 1865; d. Aug. 3, 1900 in New Castle, DE
Henry T. b. 1867; d. ?
Sarah S. b. 1869; d. ?
Benjamin William b. Oct 1872; d. 1956 in Oxford, Chester Co., PA
Anna J. b. 1875; d. Oct 9, 1903 in Liberty Grove, MD
George A. b. 1879; d. ?

I am looking for information on the parents/siblings of both JAMES and VIANNA (sometimes spelled VEANNA). Hopefully, some of this additional information will click with someone else!

NEW INFORMATION: I have found an obituary for WILLIAM BENJAMIN JONES, son of James and Vianna, however, it lists his parents' names as "James A. Jones and LEVINA MILLER Jones." Her death certificate does list her as VEANNA, so I'm not sure which name is correct - I assume, Veanna.
