Hello Christiana~I have two Josts in my family. My grandmother Rosina Ofner Wolff was born in Klein Murbisch, Austria in 1908 and HER grandmother, Maria Jost was born in Gussing, Austria in 1850. She married Franz Ofner (b1841 in Austria). Her father was Georg Jost, born 1821 (unknown place) who married Anna Wagner b 1821 (unknown place). Also, my grandmother's family (Ofners) came to America in the early 20's and I remember her telling me she worked in a cigar factory in Colplay, PA. They returned to Austria a few years later because of family.
There has to be some connection to your documentation! I could not find any more info, I am at a dead end. Do you know any more since you wrote your post?
Thanks for any input.
Carole

Hello Krista !
Maybe I can help you with some informations about Georg Jost. I am a dealer of antiques and old art objects in Heidelberg (Germany) and recently I got some old oil paintings from an artist who was called Georg Jost. It was not possible to find out much about him, but it seems that he had lived and worked in Ilvesheim, a village that is very close to Mannheim and that he participated at exhibitions of the Mannheim artists in the 1920ies or 1930ies. The quality of the paintings is so good and professional, that he must have visited an art school or academy, these are not works of a hobby painter. Maybe you are interested. I have tried to attache a foto, hope it works.

Hello, I am looking for relatives of Georg and Magdalene Jost. They resided in Germany and had a family of fifteen children. The youngest was a daughter who's first name is Brunhilde. Her married name is Brunhilde Brettschneider. She resides in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She had three brothers all of who were killed during the second world war. She may have a nephew in Breisach, Germany named Hans Peter Muller. We are urgently seeking to find her relatives. I do not have anymore information at this time.

I am trying to find info to past to a cousin and locate a Frennett family bible that Madeline had at one time. Her grand daughter does not know what happened to it. I am hoping that it went into the Jost family and did not get thrown out. It is a long shot but I thought I would post this.
Thank you Jost family.
Mary A. Crabe

You should be aware that the borders in Europe fluctuated on a regular basis. It is possible that you family records could be in Germany. Example: My 3rd great grandfather was German, but I found his baptism record in a Polish church record.

He came to the US arriving on 13 January 1907. He lists his 'nephew" as Nikolous Fuchs who first came to the US in 1903. He returned to Tschestereg in early 1904 and returned with his wife Katharine and daughter Eva. Katharine Fuchs may have been the sister of Peter Temeri, also of Tschestereg, who joined nikolaus in the US in 1930.

Other than the information above I have not been able to locate any information on the Jost Family in Austria-Hungary. Next time you are in Bennettsville call Sue's aunt Pearl(my mother) and ask her about the Perkins. Try tribalpages.com and rootsweb.com, they may give you some stuff on the Jost end.

Re: Jost / Yost: New York City

I recognize the Michael listed in this message. I don't know if I am related to him and there were many other Josts in NYC at this time.

This Michael was married to a Sabina Jost. They mostly lived at 233 Ave. A. They had three children:

Mathias Jost (born around 1842, ?Horchheim?, Hessen
m. Hulda Kirchhof in NYC in 1872)
Rosalie Muller
Barbara Gerner Junker

Sabina was born around 1812 and died on 7-21-1892 at 80 years in NYC. Her will is kept at the City Courthouse.

Michael is no longer listed in the City Directories by the mid 1860's.

I have an ancestor named Elizabeth Jost (married Kraemer) who was born and died in New York City (c. 1839-1902). Her parents were supposedly from Alsace and supposedly named John G. and Elizabeth nee Kiehl. I am looking for more information on these two out of Alsace.

If anyone knows anything about an Elizabeth Jost who married a Charles Kraemer (817 6th Ave.), or her parents John and Elizabeth Jost from Alsace, I would like to exchange notes.

Their two children:
Elizabeth A. Kraemer (b.1871, m. Otto Graesser)
Louise Kraemer (b.1874 m. Charles Kleinknecht).

Thank you. Paul Graesser

I am looking for information on my children's paternal family. I was married to Dannie Jost in NM in 1971 and had two children with him. His father was Allen Jost and his mother was Nathalie McDermid Jost. Allen's father was Gus Jost, and was from Durant, Iowa (I believe). Gus was married to Claire, but this was his second wife. I never learned his first wife's and Allen's mother's name. Gus was a long time employee of the railroad. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Oh, I do know that Gus emigrated from Denmark sometime in the early part of the last century. Thanks.
