Ken, I believe we may be distant cousins. My great grandfather was John Judson jr., of Hebron, Illinois, whom I believe is your G-Grandfather Henry's brother. Would love to share information on the Judsons.
I have been looking at old newspaper images on http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/. Since I have a Carrie Judson in my Rees tree, I thought I'd transcribe this obit of Robert T. Judson for Judson researchers. Enjoy.

Morning Oregonian
Feb 23, 1904
FIRST WHITE CHILD IN SALEM
----
Death of Robert T. Judson, Son of Pioneer of 1839.
SALEM, Or., Feb 23.-- (Special.)-- Robert T. Judson, who was the first white child born in Salem, died at his home south of this city last night, aged nearly 62 years. He was a son of L. H. Judson, who came to Oregon in 1839 on the famous missionary ship Lausanne. He was born in this city in 1842. In 1874 he married Miss Alice McBee, and the young couple took up their residence on the parental donation land claim where they have since resided. Besides his wife, Mr. Judson left the following children: Mrs. J. M. Card, Dallas; Anna, Alice, Lewis, George, Robert and Leonard Judson, all of Salem. He also left two brothers, William Judson, of Hoquiam, and Lewis Judson, of Aberdeen.
I'm searching for information on Orville Judson who lived in the Petersburg, Indiana area in the 1860s. He married Christina Bess Brewster either during the Civil War or shortly thereafter. She was a widow. They had a daughter Ada who died in infancy. He died in the Petersburg area and is supposedly buried there.

Hi Mark. I have connected to a Judson family through marriage of one of my Hartman females here in NYC. You mentioned that your grandfather was named after his grandfather "Philip" Judson. I wonder if Philip's middle name was "Mills"? I have a Mills Judson who married my Mary Caroline Hartman. Mills' father was always given as "Philo" - a form of Philip perhaps. I have some information on the family and have the burial place of Philo in NY Marble Cem. My Mary Caroline died very young and is buried in the family plot with her father-in-law, Philo. It is possible Mills remarried but I have not traced him. Mills was mentioned in Mary Hartman's father's will (Lewis Hartman) so they remained friends even after his daughter's demise.

If this sounds hopeful, I'd be happy to help with what little I have.
Linda - NYC

It was not uncommon for a Union soldier to return to the south. My mother was reared by a great aunt in Winnsboro, LA. The great aunt had married a "Yankee" guard around her home, a plantation in Franklin parish. They fell in love during his assignment and after the war, he went North, shipped his belongings (beautiful furniture!) to his steamboat landing (he owned and operated a steamboat) and they lived happily everafter! I have a card from a piece of furniture that says "ship to Caston's Landing", just outside of Winnsboro, a body of water that empties into the larger river south of Winnsboro.

Hi, Cousin. I, too, am descended from Silas Burton Judson. It was interesting to read the bio you posted, as I have just researched the same info recently.

Another of his son's was my great, great grandfather, George Judson. George moved to Michigan, where he cleared the first 10 acres of land in Mundy Township of Genesee County. He came with a man named Morgan Baldwin, and they were the first settlers in 1834 there.

I have traced his lineage back to the original William Judson to come here from England in 1634. He and others founded the town of Stratford, CT, where there is a museum in a house built by his great grandson in 1750. Have you visited there? Subsequent generations settled in Newtown, and some others moved west and southwest.

BTW, the website you listed below was not accessible. Was there an error in it? Being you're from Tenn, which side of the civil war did Gen William fight?

Hewitt Judson

He is buried in the old Williamsburg General Cemetery beside is wife Lucy Coulter. I am researching every grave in the cemetery as a part of the restoration of the cemetery. I have a good bit of information on his wife's family the Coulters. I am curious to know what he was doing in the South right after the civil war when he had fought with the Union army.

Hi,
Are these 3 Judsons suppose to be related to you? There is James C Judson in the 1850 census in Florence,Erie,Ohio. He was born in CT. about 1796. His son Albert Judson might be connected to a family of mine by marriage.

Please contact me if this name sounds like your family?

Sue

My great grandmother was believed to be a Judson but I have been unable to verify that so far. Her mother was called Hannah. My GG was known as Selina Hague and Selina Gibson.
This side of my family has been quite a challenge.....hopefully you can help shed some light
Reply Report Abuse Print
Sunderland Uk, Judsons

Hi,

I've just started looking into my family history and am looking for information about Judson's in and around Sunderland UK. I don't have a lot of information as yet but suspect my Father's mothers maiden name might have been Cooper.
