I have Poirier's in my family tree. Some are buried near Red Lake Falls. Actually Louisa Marie Poirier was my great-grandma Rose M. Dupont's stepmother. My grandma Rose's biological mother was RoseAlba Juneau, was supposedly the niece of Joseph Juneau (the miner). But a lot of the trees on Ancestry.com for the Juneaus are messed up, so I am unsure on this information.

Kat Smith

I hope to find a source document or reference that provides the parentage of both parties--to datethat has been a "too hard".

Any assistance in this quest is greatly appreciated.
I found this Paul Juneau bio....

I found this bio in The History of Wood County, Wisconsin was compiled by George O. Jones, Normand S. McVean and others and was published in 1923 by H. C. Cooper, Jr. & Co., Minneapolis, MN. I am NOT related so I do not have any further information. I just thought that I would post it.

“Paul Juneau, a pioneer of Wood County, and a nephew of Solomon Juneau, the founder of Milwaukee, was born Sept. 23, 1848, in Dodge County, Wis., son of Narcisses and Amelia (Shura) Juneau. The parents were born near Montreal, Canada, and were there married; they came to Milwaukee, in 1848, where Mr. Juneau worked for his brothers for a short time; he then bought 40 acres of land at Theresa in Dodge County in 1867, and purchased the John Wells homestead, consisting of 80 acres in Section 17, Rudolph Township, all wild land and heavily timbered. He was then over 70 years of age, and hence unable to perform any heavy labor, so that the clearing and developing of the farm developed upon his sons; he made his home there until his death, May 8, 1875, being survived by his widow, mother of Paul Juneau, until Jan. 14, 1888. There were six children in the family, all of whom with the exception of Paul are deceased. Of these Odella was a half-sister of the others, being a child from of the father by a previous marriage; the others were Eugene, Cleophus, Joseph, Solomon and Paul. Paul Juneau, after finishing school in Dodge County, remained with his father, assisting in the work of carrying on the farm, and came to Wood County with his parents in 1867. Here he took charge of the farm purchased by his father and work at its clearing and development during the summer months, spending winters for 23 years in the lumber woods in the employ of Clark & Scott. He erected all the buildings on the property, bought an additional 40 acres (making a total of 120 acres), and has bought 80 acres into a tillable condition. Though 74 years old, he is still active about his farm and is carrying on mixed farming and dairying. The debt of gratitude owing to those who, like Mr. Juneau, came into the county when it was a wilderness, and by incessant toil and the endurance of every conceivable hardship built up and developing the whole community, encouraging settlers to emigrate to this part of the country and helping them to get a start after they arrived. Always a prominent man in township and county, his influence was of incalculable value in these first critical days of the development of the region. He severed on the township board for six years and for 12years on the board of School District No. 3. On Dec. 28, 1867, Mr. Juneau was married, in Dodge County, to Katherine O’Neil, daughter of Patrick and Mary (Hickey) O’Neil. Mrs. Juneau was born on Nov. 1, 1844, near Milwaukee, in Dodge County. Her parents, natives of Ireland, came to the United States about 1840, and settled in Milwaukee for short time; they later moved to Theresa, in Dodge County, Wis., and spent the remainder of their lives there. Mr. and Mrs. Juneau have been the parents of eight children: Mary, now Mrs. O. Le Roux, of Wisconsin Rapids; Joseph, now deceased; Margaret, wife of John Fritsche, of Rudolph Township; Charlotte, now the wife of Charles Le Roux, who is a farmer in Sherry Township, this county; Angeline, who survives her husband, Joseph R. Roy and is bookkeeper for the Ragan Furniture Co. in Wisconsin Rapids; Eliza and Elizabeth, who are deceased; and Theresa, who is now Mrs. V. Neuman, of Sigel Township.”

I am told that my great great grandmother's name was Vida Juneau. She was born in Canada (most likely Quebec) and I don't have a birthdate because the county clerk's building burned down with her birth certificate in it. I do know she married Chester Putnam and they had at least two daughters and three sons, Vida Putnam born in Green Bay, Marge Putnam, Roger Putnam, Chester Putnam and Arnold Putnam. Vida Putnam married John Pavlik of Czechoslovakia (he emphasized his Bohemian ethnicity). Vida Putnam (who married John).

My great aunt who is the last surviving child of John and Vida Pavlik, insists that her grandmother (my great grandmother), Vida Juneau said she was decended from the Juneau family that incorporated or founded the city of Milwaukee, Wi. She said that Solomon Juneau was our GGGGGG...Uncle. Solomon's nephew, Joseph Juneau, founded Juneau, Alaska.

I am trying to determine if there is a public family tree or something in the book you are referring to for the Solomon Juneau family to see if there is knowledge of a Vida Juneau who may have been decended from one of Solomon's siblings.

Feel free to email me at duschl@mac.com.

Page 465 in the Book Genealogy of the Juneau Family 1600-1965 by L.-Paul Landry Eugene J. Connerton
-------------
Desire Juneau dit Latulippe(son of Phillip Juno dit Latulippe and Julie Soullie'res). A carpenter. Married at St- Gabriel-de-Brandon, Berthier County, on September 24th, 1860 to Mathilde Marion, daughter of deceased Joseph Marion"in his agricultural lifetime" and of Marie Le'vesque.

Mr. De'sire Juneau's wife was part Indian and I remember her telling me her father ate at the table because his wife was white but the children ate on the floor indian fashion. One day, an older brother asked at what age they would eat at the table with him. He said "When you get whiskers." The next day, the cat went to eat with them on the floor and the boy said: "go eat with father, you have whiskers. "This is not a story, it is history. All his branch of he family have features of the Indians."

(92) Personal communication from Mrs. Cordella Lanoie, Manchester, NH, August 17, 1960

The names of the parents of Mathilde Marion are not however Indian. It is nevertheless possible that a mixture exists somewhere in this branch of the family because this belief equally persists among the descendants of Isidore Junot, brother of Desire. As for the reported fact, it is of folklore origin. We have already run across this in other genealogical studies, notably in the Bulletin des Recherches Historiques (cf.:Papineau family). Desire Juneau lived in Manchester, NH, for more than thirty years.
Juneau/Normand

For many months I have been working on finding my grandfathers first wife, Lucille Normand. Although I have four Lucillie's in my file, ( there may be more) none fit the bill until today. I have no hard proof, just suppositions but wondered if anyone may have something to prove or disprove what I have.
Titus Normand and Azelie Bonnette had a Lucille born 11/25/1845 baptized 2/15/1846. She married Maximilien Dupuy 7/29/1862, married 2nd Aurelien Dauzat 2/5/1867. I have found no children for these two marriages. I found Aurelien and Lucille in 1870 census with no children, but they do not show up in 1880. In 1880 I find my grandfather Emile Juneau with a Lucille and two children, Emile Jr., and Eraste.
I know this Lucille was a Normand from family stories. In the 1870 census, my grandfather, Emile, Titus Normand and Aurelien and Lucille were all living in Subdivision 6, Avoyelles Parish. In some records I show Lucille Normand wife of Emile Juneau born 3/30/1845. I believe this date came from a relative but not sure. Too close to 11/1845 not to check it out.
My Lucille Normand died about 1883 in childbirth or shortly there after for Emile married 2nd. Marie Elizordie Mayeux 5/8/1883 and 3rd, Louise Agatha Vide on 9/21/1906. I descend from the 3rd marriage.
Thanks for any corrections or verifications.. I appreciate your input.

Joe Juneau and Richard T. Harris(greatgrandfather) were cofounders of Juneau, Alaska. Harris was appointed in charge of both gold prospecting trips by George Pilz. Juneau was considered to have been illiterate and did not speak english too well. Then again on a 1880 census record that I saw years ago, he is listed as literate. Harris due to his education and training kept the records and an account of both trips. The city of Juneau was name for Joe Juneau after a number of other names including Harrisburgh. In the court case Fuller vs Harris, Juneau testified against Harris on a mine claim suit and that resulted in bad blood between the two. In the end historically both Harris and Juneau got the short end of the deal, and were put in the category of minor players. Juneau was down graded because he ran out money for entertainment and Harris because he married a Tlingit(indian) women.
