It has tossed my research into a cocked hat.
I have a James Kean/Kain/etc in Butler County, Ohio
[purchased Symmns land]. His daughter Mary is my
ancestor.
It seems we are looking at two James?? Or did Mary have a 2nd husband?

Hello Amy,
My name is Doug Shutt and I grew up with Ellen, Muriel and Carolyn. Roy Kain was a best friend of my Father's and Dorrine was best friends with my mother. I don't know about your family history but have lost touch with the "Kain girls" over the years. I was in your grandfathers home many times and they were like family. We attended the same church and Dorrine (sp?) taught Good News Club at our house. Please let me know how the family is doing. I ran across this after hearing that Marvin had passed away. He was also very good friends with my dad.

I am looking for information on William F. Kain born in Maryland about 1810. On the 1850 census he was married to Louisa. Their children were Benjamin 17, Anne M 14, Hannah 13, Smith 11, Rebecca 9, Thomas 7, Esther 5, Nancy 3, and Rachael 0. On the 1860 census his wife is listed as Mary A. Does anyone have info on the death of Louisa? The name Truman keeps appearing in family names so i'm looking for any kind of connection. By the 1850 census they were living in Ohio.

Lynne, that's great that you are still hanging in there. I guess you are aware that Kain is a highly changeable name and can also be Cain, Caine, Kane & Keane, the latter now being the current spelling fashion. My family came from Galway, appear in the records under several of the above spelling variants, and included a Thomas born 1790s and another Thomas born 1829. Our DNA matches us with other families from Galway named Cain, Caine, Kain, Kane & Keane, all members of the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine.

I have at least two Thomas in my Co Galway family: Thomas Cane/Kain snr bc 1790 Co Galway, and Thomas Cain jnr (1829-1877) who migrated to Australia with two brothers in 1848, served in the New Zealand Wars 1868-1869 and returned to Australia where he died.

Franklin 'Mickey' Kain, 87, former resident of the Town of Lawrence, died
Monday, December 6, 1999 at a local nursing home. The son of the late Michael
and Madeline (Kinziger) Kain was born October 16, 1912 in Oconto. Mickey
was a graduate of Green Bay East High School. On February 22, 1936, he
married the former Mildred Toseland at St. Joseph Church, Sturgeon Bay. Millie
preceded him in death on April 12, 1999. Mickey had worked at the Ft. Howard
Paper Mill for 12 years and then was employed at St. Norbert College. He
worked as maintenance engineer for 27 years and retired as Superintendent of
Buildings and Grounds at the College. He was a past member of the Holy Name
Society at Old St. Joseph Parish on De Pere. He was an avid outdoorsman who
especially enjoyed hunting. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary

Donna Marie Kain, age 86 of Runnells, died Friday, October 20, 2006 at Windsor Manor in Indianola. The daughter of Cordis and Agnes (Burnett) West, Donna was Born on January 14, 1920 in Runnells. Donna attended Collins School. On September 30, 1938 Donna was united in marriage with Clyde E. Kain at Bethany, Missouri. Donna spent her life as a devoted wife and mother. Donna was a member of the Morgan Valley Christian Church.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Ronald Kain and his wife Linda of Runnells, Janice Thomas and her husband Dick of Runnells, Donald Kain and his wife Janice of Runnells, Robert Kain and his wife Donna of Des Moines, Patty Boot of Prairie City, Lucy Vaughn and her husband Mervin of Runnells, and Wanda Taylor and her husband Hugh of Prairie City. Those also left to honor her memory are 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and siblings: Lewis West, Kenneth West, James West, Vermell Miller, Darlene Doty, Elsie Ingle and Marjoried Launsdale. Donna was precided in death by her husband Clyde, parents Cordis and Agnes, brothers Billy, Jackie, Lowman West and sister Betty Templeton.

Clyde Edison Kain, age 76, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at Des Moines General Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born October 6, 1920 at Percy, Iowa son of Earnest and Pearl Kain. He was united in marriage to Donna West on September 30, 1938. Clyde farmed in the Runnells area and did construction work also. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; three sons, Ronald (Linda) of Prairie City, Donald (Janice) of Runnells, and Robert (Donna) of Des Moines; four daughters, Janice (Dick) Thomas and Lucy (Mervin) Vaughn of Runnells, Patty Boot and Wanda (Hugh) Taylor of Prairie City. Also surviving are two brothers, Cloman of Runnells and Johnnie of Auburn, Washington; Two sisters, Marlene McReynolds and Paulene Herwehe of Prairie City. Clyde was the proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Darlene King and Colene Murphy, and one brother, Bernard.

He is survivied by his wife Nona, a son Samuel Earnest Kain of Urbandale, Iowa, 4 daughters; Mrs. Doyle (Kathy Ann) Renaud, Prairie City, Mrs. Frank (Kristy Lynn) Clark, Prairie City, Kandy Sue Kain of Des Moines and Kimberly Kay Kain at home. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, three brothers Clyde and Cloman of Runnells and John of Bremerton, Washington, three sisters; Mrs. Rolland (Pauline) Herwehe, Prairie City, Mrs. William (Darlene) King, Hermitage Tennessee, and Mrs. marvin (Marlene) McReynolds of Prairie City. Looking for Parents of Jesse Kain b 1789 PA d 1850 OH

My ggg gf is Jesse Cain/Cane/Kain/Kane b 1789 PA, d Jan 1850, Pickaway Co. Ohio. Married Elizabeth _____ b 1789 PA. Had at least two children - Sarah b 1826 and Jesse Smith Cain b 1828-1831, both of PA, also resided in Pickaway Co, Ohio. Looking for any information on Jesse Cain's (b 1789) parents or birth county in PA to continue my search.

- I’m uncertain as to where in PA to look.
- I cannot confirm any contemporaneous relatives in Ohio who might have migrated with Jesse and Elizabeth from PA.
- However, Jesse Cain’s son, Jesse Smith Cain, served in the Civil War, and after his service, he moved to Morgan/Brown Co IN area, and married Margaret Hobbs on 20 Apr 1869. My hypothesis is that Jesse Smith Cain went to Morgan/Brown Co IN because some relatives were there. A Jesse W Kain (possibly the son of John Gates Cain?) married Harriet S VanSickle 2 weeks earlier, on 4 Apr 1869, also in Morgan County. I have not been able to show that these two Jesse’s were related, but I find it very interesting.

If any of you can help guide me, I’d greatly appreciate it!

My husband Greg is a decendant of Daniel Campbell and Elizabeth Kain. They were his GGGG Grandparents. His Campbell line is Kenneth G -> Thomas C -> Ezra -> William W -> William S ->Daniel & Elizabeth. He was the last of that line of his family and he is the only remaining Campbell line to have any knowledge, so we are tracing it too. Great to hear he has more family!

I am also researching Mary (Widow Kain)Cox. First married to Willima Kain then Maried to Jesse Pipkin. All I have been able to find is possibly born about 1769 Camden District SC No documents on maiden name of Cox. Died after 1810 Claremont Sumpter SC. I am descended thru Abraham then Nancy Jane.

That's very interesting. Our Thomas Kain b, about 1850, married Delia Cooke. Lived at St. John Terrace. He died in 1920s.

I have been working on my Kane family for over 10 years.
The name Kane came from the gailic name Keane. Years ago
a lot of them did not know how to write so the nanme was
spelled the way the person had to put it in writing interpred it. They all sound the same Cain/Kane/Keane/Kain/even Cohan and more. My own family is listed on a 1860 census in Poughkeepsie, NY as Edward O. Cain, a relative moved in with him Martin Keane following
this line from 1870 his name also changes. These familys
came from West Clare, Doobeg, Kilrush, Cooraclare ??? Have
only been able to get back to 1815. Think some (Michael b.1815) left Ireland for England year? then to NY CT and PA. When you
are doing research try different spellings. Good Luck and Happy St. Patricks Day...

My husband's g/grandfather Thomas Kain/Kane/Keane was born in 1817 in Cratloe co Clare. We believe Thomas's father Michael and mother Ellen Naughton were married ,and originated from Galway.
My husband has had a DNA test done in December last year.. 2010. So far the first 12 DNA markers has come up as a positive match to Galway, but there will be more results to come.We have come to a dead end in Clare but we are more optimistic that when we continue our search in Galway we will find my husbands g/grandfather's ancestors there. cheers Jenny

Who were her father and mother? If the Kain (or other spelling) came from her first husband, what was his name and place/date of birth?

The answer is in your genes. That's how I tracked my family back to Ireland. Same for many members of the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com/public/Cain-Caine. We have members named Kain, but be aware that other branches of your family may not necessarily be Kain, but may be Cain, Keane, etc. as I have found myself.

Doing a research project for my family history. My Dad does not know anything about the history of our family and I am unable to find anything on Kain's that immigrated to Wisconsin. The oldest known Kain's (all deceased) Gordon Kain Sr. Fought in World War II lost left arm during war. The rumor is that our particular family descends from Ireland. Hello! Looking for ANY information on Gage Kain, born about 1889 in Iowa. He married Elizabeth Agnes (called Bessie) Allinson, born 13 Sep 1890 in Lead, South Dakota. They were married 31 Jan 1912 but I don't know where. They had a son, Gage W., on 17 Feb 1914 in Montana. The 1930 census shows Elizabeth as head of household in Seattle, King, WA, a seamstress for a dry goods store - her son Gage W. is 16 years old. This would mean that Gage probably died sometime between the 1920 and 1930 census, or maybe they divorced. Any information would be helpful - thanks!
